Consumer Complaints and Reviews
Last year, I was in a payment plan with these jerks when they tried to pull the full amount of the loan plus additional interest from my account because they were being shut down (possibly temporarily). My credit union rejected it and informed me right away. I contacted my Attorney General's office - they advised me to change my bank information as this company would probably continue to try and draw money from my account. The lady I spoke to said this debt is uncollectable and unenforceable in WA. This company is AWFUL! BEWARE!
I got a cash advance from these people and they took all the money out of my account plus 127$ for interest all at once. Now I'm getting calls from "state police" stating I did not pay them back. Good thing I kept my bank statements for it so I can prove I paid. But isn't it illegal to pose as federal government and take people to court without sending the paper work. I don't think I'll get arrested or get charged with fraud since I do have proof. But if I find these people, I will shut them down and someone will pay for all the harassment from the phone calls and the stress from thinking I was going to jail. I've got my lawyer working on my case and I'll make sure the people posing as the federal government get their justice!
I received a loan from this company, and when I tried to settle up to pay them back for the small amount that I received, I could not access their website and the phone number to call them was disconnected! And so, I'm waiting to hear from them via phone, email, or USPS communication to which I have never received, but TODAY, I received a call from my State Police informing me that the Justice Department was in process of issuing an ARREST WARRANT for me for "Bank Fraud"! The SOB'S claimed that I never responded to their communications from them by way of phone calls and emails, and so they initiated a Lawsuit against me and filed a complaint with the Department of Justice seeking to have me arrested and prosecuted because as they told it, I never made any attempts to repay the Loan that I received from them!
Be aware, this company is using dirty tactics to recoup more money than what is owed to them! They even stated that they sent me numerous mailings to which I never responded! This was the very FIRST time I received any type of communication from this company concerning the debt that is due them from me!! But trust me, I WILL be initiating a cross complaint and lawsuit myself charging them with unfair business practices! I believe I saw a link that stated that this internet company was out of business! Maybe that's how they plan on getting back funds due to them by consumers, by having them arrested and filing a lawsuit in the federal jurisdictions!
People, be aware of this!! And I'm sure that I'm not the first to be going thru this, especially since I don't have a criminal record and am African-American! These bastards are trying to make me a "Statistic", but I'll be damned if I'm going to give them the satisfaction! They aren't aware that I too am a former Law Enforcement Officer!! And I do have friends/brothers still in the Law Enforcement community that will gladly assist me in going after this bastard!!
Discount Advances is a rip off. It does not matter who you talk to... Even after you pay what they tell you to, they come up with extra that you owe. I have had to fax them all my info and then they say, well it is interest and charges... even though it has all been paid back. The last loan that just ended they told me that in order to set up a settlement, I would have to pay good faith payments of $50.00 every week for 2-4 weeks. I was under the impression that it would be applied to my loan. Well after those payments plus my 2 payments already paid, I still owed more than I borrowed and I only got $330.00. Just a rip off.
I had an account with this awful company for 2 years. I paid on my loan / loan fees on time and was stuck in the stupid loan cycle like so many. The most recent loan that I had, I tried going on a payment plan since my husband had lost his job after we already made two payments on this loan. They told me no, they could not do the payment plan I had proposed and that if I did not pay the amount they set forth - they would prosecute me for check fraud and sue me for the full amount plus additional fees. I complied and started making payments even though it had caused a hardship on my household. After paying about $1400 on a $1200 loan, I told them that the loan should be paid off and I shouldn't owe anymore. DA stated that due to the extension fees and the interest fees - I still owed about $1,000. I couldn't believe it. I told them that the original loan amount had been satisfied and I shouldn't owe anymore. They said they didn't care - they had my bank account information and they would take it regardless. I was completely upset.
So I googled, researched and checked with my State Department of Financial Institutions - this company and their parent company are not registered or licensed in my state. On their website, it specifically states DiscountAdvances.com and other aliases: "These entities are not licensed by the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions as small loan or payday lenders. These entities are also not registered to conduct business in Washington State by the Department of Revenue or the Secretary of State." and "Uncollectable Debt - Washington residents are advised that state law provides in RCW 31.45.105(1)(d) and (3) that a small loan made by an unlicensed entity to a person physically located in Washington is uncollectible and unenforceable in Washington State."
After reading this, I decided to close my bank account and ignore them. I do not care if they hire someone in my state to seek the interest / extension fees from me. Their loans are uncollectible and unenforceable in WA State. They've received enough of my money and can kiss my **! To everyone out there - please check your state's Department of Finance website, Attorney General website and any other Consumer Alerts for your state. Guard yourselves and your money! DiscountAdvances and company are evil and will drain your accounts.

I have been a customer with Discount Advances since 2012. I have never had a problem with them until recent. In September I took out a loan and had an extension, but I noticed when I went apply for another extension the website wasn't available, so I had to call. They said that I couldn't get another extension and I had to pay my loan in full (smh). Oh well I paid it in full. So on October 9th I tried to apply for another loan and they said that they are not accepted any applications. I don't know what's going with them, but people please be careful. I think they are going out of business and trying to get back all the money they can.
I applied for a loan in March 2012 and regularly made payments but due to loss of income and someone hacking into my account, I couldn't continue making payments. I understand I owed a remaining balance but this company made no effort in contacting me about the remaining balance and actually I did forget about this company. Now here it is Sept. 2013, and I'm being contacted by a 3rd party saying a claim has been brought against me and they're trying to say I committed fraud. I understand I may owe these people but why they thought it was okay to wait over a year later to contact me, as well as wait until after I've had another baby. I have a limited income now, a 3-week-old, two birthdays coming up for the next two months not to mention Christmas. I just don't understand this loan company but never again.
I have been a borrower for 2 years off/on. Imagine my surprise when I called to extend my loan to be told that what was regularly charged as $100.00 towards interest and $153.00 towards principal was now going to be tripled as $100.00 towards interest and $300.00 towards principal (balance was $700.00). Last 2 prior extensions, it was much lower so instead of going down, it skyrocketed. I asked them why did they triple the balance due towards principal, it was not under terms & agreement. They said, "We reserve the right to do so." Used some fancy verbiage about "extension protocol". I was upset and in broken English, the representative seemed to be so confused by what he was trying to explain that what he was trying to say didn't make sense to his supervisor.
And mind you, when I called I was told I had time to extend by 20 mins. The rep said he'd get permission to extend with me only having to pay $200.00 towards principal as a compromise, but that I'd have to hold, kept coming back & forth, then guess what? He came back saying, "It is now 4:01 pm and you're 1 minute past extension cut off so we can't extend loan." I was upset and said, "You ackd I was on time and even said you were speaking to a supv on my behalf." He then lied and said, "Let me transfer you to someone who will complete extending your loan."
I was told by 2nd rep that she saw he put loan thru to bank for complete payment leaving me with zero balance owed to them. I called his supvr who simply said, "Oh my, sounds like a training issue on our end. Goodbye." Click. I found out next day that this company is no longer loaning out to customer. I wish I could find out what (if anything) hopefully put their fraudulent practices to a halt!
Yesterday (Monday, 8/12/13) I applied for a loan to cover an immediate moving expense and airline change fees for an emergency trip this Thursday. I received a letter saying I was approved and the money would be electronically transferred at 4:30 PST. Tuesday morning, I kept checking and no deposit. At 11 AM, I called DiscountAdvances and they told me they would not be sending any money. I said they broke the contract. They agreed with me. I asked them to send me an email stating that the loan was null and void. They said they would not do this. So now I have a charge to the airline and a check to the moving company that may or may not get paid. If they do pay the check, there will be fees. I do not yet know what will happen to my reservation for Thursday morning made on my bank debit card. Yes, I am angry. I am glad I did not wait any longer to call. They had no intention of notifying me of their situation.
I took out a loan in March 2013 and everything was great. In May, I ran short and thought I would try their service again. My account shows it was paid in full on 6/21/13. But on 6/28/13, they took out over $800.00! I did not have $800 in my account and needless to say, my account is now $543.00 overdrawn. I called them and was informed I needed to fax a copy of my bank account information, which I did and called to make sure they received the fax. They told me they had not received the fax and to call the following day. I re-faxed the information today, which is Monday, July 1, 2013. I called and was informed they received my fax, and that someone else had taken out a loan using my checking account number! There is no one else on my checking account! They are a scam and I would not use them ever again!
Sent me money I did not ask for. The money was sent to my account that I closed. They are trying to get me to pay them the high interest for money I did not request. The bank is sending it back, yet they still sent me an email saying the loan is due. It's as if they are trying to make money off me in a fraudulent way.
I applied for a loan and was approved. I believed that the loan would be refinanced as other payday loans. In fact, I contacted them numerous times to make sure that this would happen. When my checkbook and debit card were stolen, I tried to contact them using the information they had given me in order to follow my account. This information did not work. I followed their steps to reset my password, which didn't work either. As anyone who has had their checkbook and debit card stolen, I had to close my account.
Imagine my surprise when they tried to collect the whole amount of the loan and interest the same way that they did with Jill for MA back in 2010. I then received very rude and degrading phone calls from a concern called Credit Depot. I asked for information, but they said that they could not give it to me but that I needed to contact Discount Advances. This of course has landed me back in the same situation I was in before - no phone number to call a representative or a valid email account. I know that this company is in Canada, but I would hope that the Canadian government would have better rules for their companies to abide by.
I made arrangements to pay down my loan in an increment of $50 plus interest for Jan. 3rd and they took out the total of $650+ after I signed to pay down. It's a major rip-off. Beware. Do not borrow from them! I recommend AmeriLoan or One Click Cash. They are reasonable and pay downs are easy. Stay away from Discount Advances or you will regret it. I ended up losing half my disability check in one quick withdrawal.
DiscountAdvances.com is so ridiculously unprofessional. I have the actual agreement in my hand stating that the funds would be available on the 13th. Today is the 13th and the deposit is not in my account. I called them and they said, "You were approved on the 13th. We have not initiated payment yet." I told her I have documentation from Discount Advances stating I was approved on the 11th. She went on and on that she's sorry for the confusion, but there is nothing she can do. Confusion? There is no confusion! I have it in writing! I asked her what she is going to do about this and she told me nothing. Really? Nothing? Now because of Discount Advances, my account will be in overdrawn status tomorrow morning and I will be hit with massive fees.
Discount Advances should not tell you one thing, put it in writing and then go and do another. The purpose of taking out this stupid loan was for me to avoid overdraft fees on my checking account. Now I will be stuck paying overdraft fees and their ridiculously high interest on this loan. Thanks for nothing Discount Advances.
I've used this company twice and never had any issues with them deducting more from my account than the amount stated on the website. I will caution anyone who uses them to be sure to read the instructions about how the account is handled. It is the responsibility of the borrower to complete the amount to be withdrawn on the website. You will receive a confirmation after you initiated the transaction. If this is done in a timely fashion, it works and there are no mishaps with this company deducting more than what is specified. Perhaps, the negative reviews are from not understanding how the process works.
On 08/28/2012, this company credited my checking account using my name, date of birth, and a different Social Security number. I never applied for a loan on this company. I asked the supervisor her name; first she told me it was Cynthia, and then she told me it was Ana. When I called for the second time, the amount they credited was $1,230.00. And when I asked how can they post money on my checking acct. using a Social Security number that's not mine and without my electronic signature, she told me in a very rude way that's the way they work which is very bad because they don't verify people's information. The bottom line is they took money from my checking account without giving me a time to close my checking account, leaving me in overdraft and owing the bank $315.00. This company is a scam. Please, people, do not use this rip-off company. This is horrible.
Discount Advances has the rudest and most disrespectful representatives. They cut you off when you're asking questions and if you don't understand something, you just don't. They are highly overrated with the prices they charge to take out a loan. They also charge you extra to extend the loan if needed $200. Also, they tell you they will take out one amount and it is much higher than stated. Me, personally, I would never use them or recommend using their company for services. Their customer service and their third party contact who they use to contact you is terrible. I am currently awaiting a manager to call me back from the terrible service I received. Your best advice is to survive on your own before you borrow from them.
This isn't a complaint, but there was no other way to post a response. Why would someone call in to make a payment or request an extension, when it can be done right there on the website? You can pay whatever the "interest" is and extend the original loan for another 2 weeks. The whole process is stated right on the website. If it's due on a Friday, you must do this by 4:30pm on Thursday. Then they will take nothing from your bank account but the interest. I've been doing business with DA for over 6 years and they've always been very upfront with me.
When I got laid off work, they worked with me to get my loan paid, w/o costing me a lot of extra fees to do it. They are a very legitimate company. I'm not looking for any compensation. I merely wanted to post this in protest of persons who could have saved themselves a lot of grief, simply by reading the instructions which are posted very plainly on the website, instead of blaming DA when they had to pay the entire amount, because they didn't read the instructions.
Discount Advances has a referral program where, if you refer a friend and they successfully obtain a loan, you are given $100. I did so and when it came time to give me $100, Discount Advances told me that I was not entitled because the loan my friend obtained did not meet their guidelines. Discount Advances is misleading and does not live up to its incentive program. I am very disgusted as I am a customer and have spent tons of money in interest and they cannot even give me $100 for referring a friend.
I took out a payday loan with Discount Advances on 6/9. My 1st payment was 7/16. I was instructed that if I needed to extend the loan to call within 24hrs to do so. I called Discount on 7/14 to extend the loan. The first words out of my mouth was "I would like to extend my loan." The woman I spoke with told me that the fee to do so would be $138.75. I was taken aback because I didn't think it should be that high and we discussed for about 10-15 minutes. After she explained the fee, I said, "Okay so $138.75 will be deducted from my checking account on 7/16," and she said yes. I ended the call.
This morning Monday 7/19, I called my bank to make sure it was deducted and they ended taking the whole amount which was $438.75 which I did not have in my checking account. I called Discount and asked to talk with a supervisor after I realized the person who answered was not going to help me. I asked Angela, the supervisor, what happened and she said I never confirmed the terms of the extension. I replied I was never given any terms on 7/14 and asked if the calls were recorded. She said yes and I asked her to go back and listen to the call so she could hear that the rep did not give me any terms and that I asked for an extension multiple times.
Angela called me back after an hour and said that I never agreed to the terms of the extension therefore one was never given. I asked her if she heard me ask for an extension multiple times and she said yes but of course went on to tell me again that I never confirmed the terms. I was confused and asked what I was supposed to confirm and she said that the rep should have given me a confirmation # after I answered a couple of questions. I told her that I should not be penalized because their rep didn't do her job. How was I supposed to know what the process is? I don't work there. Anyway needless to say I got screwed and they won't refund me my $300. I now have a checking account that is overdrawn by $315.00 and have no way to replace that money which means I will get all sorts of bank fees on top of everything else.
