What is Primerica?

Primerica is a life insurance company that offers two types of term life policies for customers between 18 and 70 years old.

  • TermNow, with up to $300,000 in coverage
  • Custom Advantage, with up $5 million in coverage

Customers who buy term life insurance from Primerica work with a local Primerica life insurance agent for a personalized customer experience. Primerica life insurance policies cover people until age 95, and almost all payouts take only two weeks.

The company provides agent information by state on its website. A Primerica insurance agent helps customers through the application process. To get a Primerica life insurance quote, you need to provide your age, address and gender and answer a few questions about your general health. Depending on the policy, customers may need to provide their Social Security number and driver’s license. Call or email a local Primerica life insurance agent in your city or state to fill out an application and get a quote.

Primerica life insurance policies

Primerica exclusively offers term life insurance and simplifies the process by providing only two plans: TermNow and Custom Advantage. Both options come with term length options of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years. However, only people who are younger than 45 are eligible for a 35-year term life insurance policy. For individuals 55 and older, 25 years is the maximum term length.

Primerica’s term life insurance policies have coverage up to $300,000 for TermNow plans and up to $5 million for Custom Advantage plans. All Primerica policies provide life insurance coverage until a maximum age of 95.

Primerica term life insurance policies include these riders to give policyholders more coverage:

  • Increasing benefit rider: Increases the policy’s death benefit value by up to 10% for 10 years
  • Terminal illness benefit: Gives policyholders diagnosed with a terminal illness access to their death benefit to pay for medical expenses and care while they’re still alive
  • Waiver of premium: Waives the monthly premium if a policyholder becomes critically ill or disabled

How much does Primerica cost?

Primerica life insurance typically costs $20 to $50 per month for healthy individuals. Cost varies depending on the policy and the applicant's age and health profile.

People who smoke, have a poor health history and are older have higher life insurance costs. A Primerica life insurance policy with a lower coverage amount costs less.

Unlike some competitors, Primerica doesn’t offer a quote tool, so interested customers must call or email a local Primerica agent for a free quote.

Primerica FAQ

How long does it take Primerica to pay out a life insurance policy?

Primerica pays out most life insurance policies within two weeks of a claim submission. A small percentage of policies take longer than two weeks to pay out.

Does Primerica require a medical exam for life insurance?

It depends on the policy:

  • To get a Custom Advantage policy, a Primerica life insurance medical exam is required.
  • TermNow policies do not require a medical exam, but Primerica does a background check to determine eligibility.
Can I buy Primerica whole life insurance?

No, Primerica doesn’t offer whole life insurance policies. The maximum term available for Primerica term life insurance is 35 years for people under 45. For people over 55, the maximum term is 25 years.

Is Primerica life insurance legit?

Yes, Primerica is legitimate. It’s a publicly traded insurance and financial services company. Primerica has offices in every state across the U.S. except North Dakota and has more than 130,000 independent life insurance representatives.

Is Primerica legit?

Primerica is a stable company that’s been in the life insurance industry for more than 40 years. A Primerica insurance policy is best for those who have temporary expenses — such as care for children or mortgage payments — and are specifically looking for term life insurance. Primerica is also an excellent option for seniors who want coverage, since coverage is active until age 95. Primerica pricing and quotes for term life insurance are not available online, but working with an agent one-on-one creates a personalized experience.

I've been a customer since 2005. It's always been easy to make a withdrawal in the past until today. The automated system was not helpful, so I thought I'd speak with a representative. She didn't speak very good English. She put me on hold about 10 times within a ridiculous 32 minutes of being on the phone! It was completed out of control. I've never spoke with my new representative which has been around 10+ years. Because she updated my information, she couldn't send a confirmation. I don't know if the transaction is even going to happen!

Primerica shareholders agents assisted my life partner's daughter in stealing my inheritance. My life partner had a roth ira that he made me the primary beneficiary to and (per stripes) to pass on to my children once I passed. The ira account portfolio was a mixture of: stocks and bonds, mutual funds, cds, treasury bonds, annuities, and securities, etc. He also had land in a colorado he was trying to see if was still fit to build upon. I knew of some of his investments because he took me along with him to the financial institutions where they were held or through where they were sold through financial advisors. After I told the agent I needed the forms he insisted on sending me the general application and also insisted I would have to cash out. Which I knew I did not because of my disability standing.

At this point I knew it was pointless to argue so I instead called back to get a different representative. This representative told me that she'd send the proper forms but only to the original address on file. Now I had since changed and updated our address due to the death of our loved one and primerica had sent me the original claim form that was not the right claim form to my current address and I received it. So why is the representative telling me she will only send the claim form to my old address? Where I no longer live? And the woman who has stolen my inheritance can get my mail because it is highly likely she's forwarded his / our mail to her permanent mailing address so that she received any and all correspondences and information regarding the account.

So a few days later I called back to speak with a supervisor to see if I could get someone to help. This is when the initial agent who answered my call told me that I am not on the record and that no such account or addresses exist on the record. I was shocked and very upset is an understatement to say the least. It took me days to get past what has happened that I could even speak about it and I am disabled so it's taken a lot out of me both physically and mentally. I had to take over a week to start to be able to move forward again.

Once I did I went to a local office in puyallup wa and spoke w the rep w an interested party along. I did not initially tell the agent what's happened w the ira. I simply told him that I was the primary designated beneficiary to the roth ira and that I needed the claim paperwork, and forms for edb (eligible designated beneficiary) and told him I've been having a difficult time getting the long form because the family has blocked me. Well the agent Mr. ** stated that he thinks he can get the company to accept the short form. I told him I do not want the short form but because the short form does not help me with managing my inheritance without standing. The long form is needed otherwise I can not represent my status as a property right holder to management my inheritance. He said he'd see what he could do.

So I again requested the forms but he said he'd get back to me on last Monday, Tuesday at the latest but he never called or anything. I waited till last Wednesday and sent him an email to inquire as to why I didn't get the forms when he could've simply printed them out in his office and gave them to me. His response was "I tried to help you", I can do nothing more until I get the account number. Now I'd already given him ball of the paperwork from Primerica where he'd also agreed that I was the primary beneficiary that corresponded to the account, to include verbally giving him the account number so I went ahead and resent him a statement of my partners ira account enclosed in the email. I have not heard from him since.

I posted my experience on a review and someone who claims they are the owner of primerica sent a response saying to contact them at primerica@reveiws.Com. And they'd like to investigate the situation further. I did and I let them know what horrible thing has happened to me and that I am or will be filing a suit against the daughter, the two rvp primerica agents, the primerica company and all persons involved if there has not been a satisfactory solution such as reversing the transfer of the assets and investments back to the original owners account and recovery of mine and my children's inheritance within the next 7 business days. This gives them a total of 9;days to respond favorably.

For a company to allow something as horrible as this to go on is insane. No ONE should ever be able to get into your financial accounts and rob you of your life savings. No one! Primerica did not protect my partner's investments while he was alive, nor when he died. They literally passed them over into the enemy's hands. Because this is a public page I will not post sensitive information but I have documents confirming my status and my life partner's roth ira investments account. I would never recommend this primerica based on my own horrific experience with this investment service.

I started investing with Primerica in 2017, with IRAs and mutual funds in a trust. From the start they had my mail delivered to the wrong zip code, saying the address did not exist (duh!). I was furious about this but my friend and financial advisor helped somewhat. I would get a letter from Primerica saying the account was not the correct address and mail had been returned. THEY put the zip code starting with 3, instead of a 9, which is clear across the country. The letter said it was coded RPO returned by post office, and if it wasn't corrected the money would be escheated to the state. Right away I got a bad feeling about them. It was corrected but I was not feeling good about it because it's well over 2 million $$$.

Ever since, for years, I cannot get on to my accounts online, and it's constantly telling me the password is wrong, not recognized, or I've been locked out. I always have to go through a HUGE fiasco to see my own damn accounts. I have my advisor look them up, and always looks good, so I'm happy.. until it happens again, and again, and again. Why the H can't I get into my own accounts? Today I'm trying to get on to get the tax information to organize my tax info, and again another log-on fiasco. I've just about had it with them, and ready to invest with Fidelity or Fisher, VanGuard, or Schwab. I appreciate the security (if I can't log in I guess no one else can either). But I'm really sick of the user unfriendliness (AKA incompetence). Feeling on shaky ground even though I left California 6 years ago.

Whatever you do, please don't buy a life insurance with Primerica. It has to be one of the biggest insurance scam. I bought insurance back in 1996, I have been paying my premiums almost 60 dollars a month. I just received a letter from them stating it's going up to over 200 dollars. I have wasted so much money so please learn from my mistake and do your homework. This was a term life insurance but it wasn't explained to me to that it'll go up once you reach a certain age.

My son joined this company against all and everyone telling him not to join an MLM. Still he joined and I as his mother and to get his approval went with him and yes no one forced me to buy a life insurance but I thought I would buy it and cancel it. Sure he would get over it and quit. I can assure no one in Primerica brainwashed me. They sold me a life insurance that was a term after 20 years. They kept secret that after 20 years I would have had to pay 1500$ a month and kept going up and they did not explain that, so I told my son Jonnathan I’m going to cancel this. It’s crazy!

Not knowing that his mentor sells him insurances and idk how many things weekly or monthly. They are stripping him of every cent so when I cancelled he has blocked me and never spoken to me again in months because of the brainwashing his mentor Omi or Omar, I’m not sure his name, has done! Please beware. They work like a cult and they don’t care taking all your money! The address is 3426 w 84 st suite 201, Hialeah gardens, Florida. They break up families and cause damage! Beware

I have had Primerica for some time now me and my 6 kids. So my policy did lapse but I did reinstate it. My son was murdered on March 26, 2025. It is now July 15, 2025 and still no pay out. They continue to ask for bogus documents like doctor records and murder investigation results and even though they have the killer they are adding on other bogus documents as if they just don't want to pay out. I will never ever recommend them. If I could have given no stars I would have.

Unbelievable. I have been with Primerica for years, simply putting money into my Roth IRA. I did need to withdraw some money from it, for some unexpected expenses throughout my time having the account. Just recently, I changed the amount I would put towards it, as I am saving up using another platform. I did NOT receive any mail, email, phone call, etc. from them stating that my account was behind. I only received the 3 month mail letter stating I had less than 3 weeks to pay the overdue amount, or they would close my account. I called them to see what I can do. No help whatsoever. They lady simply told me you have to pay it by that date or else. I simply told them I will withdraw my money and find another company.

Someone at Primerica must have farmed my phone number. I received a call and I was driving. It was pleasant enough but I won't ever work for Primerica. So if they're buying lists or getting information off of LinkedIn, stop it! Vitello and Associates Inc. was the ones that came after me. No thanks.
