Read full reviewWhat is Whitmore?
Whitmore School is an accredited online high school that offers self-paced learning options, including programs for adults. Its mastery-based curriculum lets you move from subject to subject at your own pace — for instance, if English comes easier to you than math, you can breeze through literature and have more time for math. Whitmore has no due dates and a 17:1 student-to-teacher ratio, and its diplomas are recognized by higher learning institutions.
How does Whitmore work?
All Whitmore programs offer one-to-one time with instructors, self-paced work and transferable credits. You can choose from either a General Studies or College Prep track, depending on your post-graduation goals. Whitmore has open enrollment, so you can enroll at any time of the year. Whitmore offers four diploma tracks:
- Diploma: Includes a personalized graduation plan from your guidance counselor and access to a student support coach, but parents are responsible for following their students’ schedule and progress
- Diploma PLUS: Includes additional support from a counselor, monthly detailed progress reports and extra credits, so it might be a better option for parents who want a bit more support
- Diploma PLUS with College Advisor: Offers additional guidance support and a personal college advisor to assist with all aspects of applying to college, from research and writing the college application essay to searching for scholarships and requesting recommendations
- Adult Education Diploma: For adult students who are returning to school to earn a high school diploma; includes a personalized graduation plan, and students can set their schedule around their other commitments outside school
Whitmore School also offers a la carte curriculum support options to students enrolled full time in any of its diploma programs, including:
- YUP Math Tutoring: Includes 24/7, on-demand, one-to-one access to math tutoring through Stanford-based YUP
- Everydae SAT Prep: Includes access to online challenges to prepare for the SAT. On average, students who prepare for 10 minutes per day see an increase of 200 points on their SAT, according to the company.
Whitmore School cost
Whitmore prices start at $1,699 yearly for the Diploma and Adult Education Diploma programs. Diploma PLUS is $2,199 annually or $2,595 per year with College Advisor. Those who pay in full, as well as military families, first responders and siblings, can get discounts. You can also enroll in a payment plan, which splits the total cost over seven months. If you’d prefer to take individual classes, the cost is $475 per credit.

We like that Whitmore is accredited. We also like their schooling options. There are so many online schools now but Whitmore's program offered honors classes which we found a lot of free schools and even some of the ones that cost money didn't offer. Our daughter's in her sophomore year right now. For her junior and senior year, one of the things they offer in the more elevated program is help with college tests. Some of the programs that we know offered good classes, but you had to log in so many times a week or so many times a day and that minimized things because our daughter was having a baby and we didn't know when that was going to happen. With Whitmore, we like the flexibility of the schedule, the classes and the other things that they offer.
My daughter likes that her teachers are engaged with her when she starts the class. That feels less isolating for somebody that's stuck at home. They ask her who she is as a person and how she's doing. She can tell them why she's choosing online school and what's going on in her life. That feels much more personal. Even though it is just at the beginning of the class and it seems simple, that makes a huge difference.
I would definitely recommend Whitmore. It's been a great experience and we wanna stick with the program. All of her teachers are great. She just has one teacher whose response time seems a little all over the place. It's a reflection on the school in a way because that's their employee. There'll be a couple of times where he's very responsive for math and it is one of her harder classes she's in for a sophomore. She's in trigonometry and precalculus. But 95% of the time, it's days, so it's dragging out this class. It is a time limit when you sign up. She could complete it early, but she has 12 months to complete everything. That's been an added stress level. She reached out to her counselor and has tried to say a couple of times, "I'm trying to finish this class. How can I get my teacher to respond faster?" I don't know if her counselor misunderstood her email, but her counselor asked, "Do you want to drop the class?" She was not trying to drop the class. She just wants her teacher to respond to her.
Thank you Christina for your thoughtful review. Our teachers do reach out to their students and try to get to know them. The relationships that develop are very important for the students success.
When my daughter attended Whitmore School, she said she got to know her teachers here much more here than at her local high school.
I want to thank you for your feedback regarding one of our Math Teachers. We do monitor their response time and coach them to be prompt with their feedback. Our Math Department Chair is currently working with this specific teacher the issue will be resolved.Thank you,

I love Whitmore. I am one of their adult learners because when I was in high school, I got really sick and had to withdraw from public school. I couldn't afford treatment at that time for my illnesses, so I never got to finish high school. So, now that I got treatment a couple of years ago, and I'm doing much better, and I get the option to do high school, but sort of traditional way, and not go from a GED but take courses, earn credits, learn, and build a transcript to apply to colleges. I’m so grateful that they have that opportunity. It's amazing.
I like their idea of mastery learning. They allow you to learn, and there's a time and place to make mistakes and to get things wrong, and to revise, and learn from your mistakes before you actually send in a submission or an assignment that you're proud of and that you know you've completed to the best of your ability. I loved doing things online. It’s very convenient. Everything is at your own pace and in your own time. You can make it work with your schedule, your hobbies, your family, and your work. I also work at a Mathnasium, which is like a Math Learning Center where I'm a tutor. So, I can change my hours to make it work with my work, and with my other extracurriculars like studying for the SAT. You’re not fixed into a strict schedule, which is great.
In this day and age, with the public school system and how it is in so many different districts across the country, a lot of students are falling behind because the system is not set up to be catered to individuals. So, don't hesitate. Go and get an individualized experience at Whitmore. They're going to cater to you and your strengths and help you with your weaknesses.
Thank you for your great review Amber! We really do cater to the individual student and help them learn as much as possible. You are doing great, keep up the solid effort.

My daughter loves Whitmore but she can only do the online chatting. She never has a chance for one-to-one talk time and there is a limit where she can do Math. So, I didn’t add tutoring for it. It was useless for our case. My daughter thinks Whitmore is harder for her but she figured it out and slowly, she caught up and liked it. As her parent, the only thing I'm concerned about is that there's no interaction but in that case, we may have to pay more tuition. I understand that. So, other than that, we are good.
Whitmore is very suitable if the students have side things that they're interested in such as dance or athletics or they want to spend extra time for drawing or anything specific besides school. That was excellent for those are strengths. My daughter is not. So, I wish she is. The program is a self-directed study and even though my daughter started very slow, she learned through her experiences. When she goes to college, she may able to catch up more than when she was in public school. Eventually, in her college years, it’s gonna be a benefit for her.
My daughter never read aloud so I don’t hear anything. There is auditory at the lecture but there are so many words that even American people don’t know how to pronounce. So, I wish that Whitmore has that system added. She doesn’t know how to say many words because she’s only reading with her eyes. If it is improved, that would be better. Other than that, this is a good program, especially after the pandemic. I don't have to worry about the virus because she doesn't have exposure to kids.
Thank you for your 5 Star Review Jenny!! Your daughter is doing excellent work with us. I see she has signed up for Everydae. I hope she is enjoying that as well.

There are parts of Whitmore School that have worked really well for us, and others just haven't suited my son as well as we had hoped. We're probably going to be going in a different direction next year. My son likes its flexibility. He liked the course offerings that they have. He likes the format of the school for the most part. He doesn't mind being on the computer.
For a student that might struggle with the amount of reading that might need to happen, things might need to be taken into consideration since it's a very text-based schooling. There's no option for paper or a textbook to get something to be able to print it off so that my son could not necessarily have to scroll as much to go back and look for instruction. If he's struggling with a problem, it can get tedious to go back and forth and scroll, and everything gets lost. There's no way to underline or highlight a thing and that type of thing. So, it's been a little struggle for him in that respect.
My son has cerebral palsy, so that makes typing and stuff a little difficult. That is also another reason why it was a little hard for him to type in all his answers. There are options to take pictures and submit them, too, but those are extra steps that make it difficult. We told them about that, but I don't see they're having an option for an IEP type of situation or 504 type of situation where there could be accommodations made for certain things like that.
I feel like the cost is a little high. The curriculum is great, but I do feel like there's nothing tangible that we get, other than his grades. So, for the cost of what it was, it's been hard. The communication side of it worked out well. I just feel like for what I paid, it's been kind of hard to communicate some of the things that I've needed and to wait to hear back, but I could try and use the chat box. I could have picked up the phone as well.
Thank you for your review Joy! We are always striving to improve at Whitmore School, so thank you for your feedback. We will continue to be student driven and make updates to insure his success.

The pandemic started, and everyone was on lockdown and doing virtually. We were not happy with the education. Our eyes were opened to what was going on in the school. I tried to speak to our local school about it and was completely lambasted. So, we put our house for sale and moved. I just happened to be watching a YouTube channel of a family that traveled the country and they had their kids in this school so I looked into it and it fit what I was looking for. My son is actually thriving in Whitmore School. He's graduating a year early, and I've never been happier. It was the best money I've ever spent.
Enrolling was very simple. You just go online, you pick the track that you want to take, you process your credit card, and you have your old transcripts sent over to them. They really walk you through it. They’re right on top of everything. You can start on your own time. Most kids who are in online school are just sitting at a computer all day. If they're on virtual with the regular school, it's not healthy for them. So, this is great. You make your own scheduling. You do your courses. You send them in.
What I like about Whitmore is that you don't do a lesson and then you just get graded and you move on. You have to master it. You don't move on unless you get to a nine or a 10. So, there might be a lot of revisions if you're struggling. For some courses, my son did have a lot of revisions. But he's been really doing well at other courses. The school personnel is all very friendly. They call you right back. They get right back to you. They are very happy, sweet and kind people. They're there to help. I really am blown away. It's funny how I found them and it's been a great thing for our family. My son's on the spectrum and he's really flourished.
We are looking forward to meeting you at the in person Graduation!!

We contacted Whitmore and did everything online. The reps talked to us about the payment plans, because it's not a free online school, and talked us through why it's different. It was very straightforward and easy. I'm not one of those people who like to get all bogged down. If it's getting confusing, I'll bounce. The counselors have a lot of suggestions when you run into a problem like staying up to date on things the way we think my daughter should. At one point, we were gonna disenroll her, based nothing on Whitmore, but because she wasn't keeping up and we were gonna put her in public school. But the principal called and we talked about how my daughter could help her change her mindset and how to keep up with things. So we ended up keeping her in Whitmore and she's been doing a lot better.
Thank you for your wonderful review Jaime. I can't tell you how pleased we are with your daughters new mindset. She has made huge strides in all her courses and her activity calendar (this measures how often she is doing her school work and submitting lessons) is showing total dedication. Ellen, our Principal, gets more excited when a student turns themselves around and starts being successful. It is a sign of taking responsibility for her own education.
We hope you can make it to Graduation on May 27, 2023!!

Whitmore has been a great place for our kids to complete their high school. The curriculum has been challenging and the teachers have been helpful and responsive. I highly recommend Whitmore to anyone. Also, they teach classic studies and no woke agenda.
Thank you for your 5 Star Review Shawn! Both your students are doing a great job at Whitmore School. It looks like Geneva is getting close the graduating with straight A's. We hope you can attend our Graduation in May!!
Whitmore School utilizes a traditional curriculum and we believe that it is the parents role to teach their children morals and ethics.

As a student at Whitmore, I have nothing but gratitude in my heart. I love the quick responses that the staff bring to the table. Thanks to the amazing classes and overall program that is provided by Whitmore, I am able to graduate early!
Thank you Brent! Hope to see you at Graduation.

Positive experience:
- The school is trying to assure a quality educational level.
- Why not schedule live communication with teachers and counselors at least once monthly to build relationships with students?
- Why not encourage students to stick to some steady performance to achieve targets?
Thank you for your review Mohamed.
The problem with having live communication is we have students all over the world in almost every time zone. It makes it impossible to have a live lesson. Our guidance counselors are available for live communication via telephone or Zoom call. That can be arranged through the Guidance Support Tab.
We do continue to improve our systems and courses. Currently we are working on a pacing guide which would enable a student to put a completion date for finishing a course. The pacing guide would help the student manage their time to finish the course within their goal.
The important thing our students learn is how to take responsibility for their education. By doing this they will go on to have success in college or in the workplace.

The quality of the education with Whitmore seemed higher than a lot of the others. They were paying attention, organized, and accredited. They offered what we needed, which was asynchronous work-at-your-own-pace type of schooling. Not some place where my daughter would have to log in at a certain time every day and interact with other kids and the teacher. She just needed to be able to do it at her own pace. The enrollment process was good. We filled out some information which generated emails, and those emails contained links that allowed us to get on the website and set up a student account and a parent account. Whitmore has fair price and they are certainly more affordable than a lot of the schools that are out there. But there's no loss of the expectation just because we're paying less. We're still receiving a high-end experience.
Thank you for your review Natalie. Our goal has always been to be the best online high school. We are able to do that with our Mastery Based Learning Management System and our truely dedicated teachers.
Your daughter has the time (self paced learning) and the quality instruction to achieve her own academic success.
Please tell her to keep up the good work!!
