Consumer Complaints and Reviews
Compaq Presario laptops - overheating fan. Please be advised that these laptops tend to overheat, which causes the computer to completely shut down and turn off. I was informed by HP company supporters that the life existence of the computer is short.
I have loved Compaq Laptops, but this particular model was constructed very badly. I kept faith with it because, out of blind faith, I wondered if they would call it back in. But after the year guarantee run out I then complained. It was slow at doing most things, and got worse as it went on. My previous ones were very good. Just don't understand a company like this washing its hands off doing the right thing, and the right thing would be to fix the slowness of this model??
I bought the CQ1 in 2012, after two weeks of use, it showed an error that said that the disk was not being recognized. I called to support of HP and they ask me to run BIOS and re-start the PC to the initial configuration. I did it but it didn't solve the problem, after one month, the error occurred again. I called HP one more time and then they asked me to get the computer to the client offices. They gave me the computer after a week. Again it crushed after two months of almost any use (because I have a laptop). I called them again and they asked me to re-start the PC, I did it and it solve the problem for a few more months. Then It crashed again, but I didn't have warranty anymore, until today I have taken it to three places in order to try to fix it. Nothing had worked. I have that problem until today.
I received my Compaq Presario QC56 computer for Christmas of 2012 less than a year ago. From the first month, I started having problems. I have sent my computer in three times and now it is still giving me problems. It is now going out for the fourth time - screen display going out to computer freezing up. I then have to spend 30 to 40 minutes every time with foreigners that I cannot understand. Do not buy Compaq laptops.
I have purchased a new Compaq all in one desktop, model no. CQ-1-1030in on 20/2/2012. Its camera and microphone are not working. Besides, it's working very slow. I humbly request to dispatch your engineer to look into the matter as there is no Compaq service center in Jalandhar.

HP Compaq Presario - Since I had it, there is not a day it hasn’t given me some sort of problem. I bought it about 5 months ago for myself. I used to have a lot of fun on my old Dell computer. I hadn’t used anything because I don’t buy things much because you see, I’m poor and disabled and don’t have the opportunity to buy what I need, let alone this. Right now there is a square box on the screen and it’s almost always there, always something. I have saved and giving up repairing my car because my granddaughter desperately wants a laptop. So, do you suppose her birthday this month I will buy another HP or from Best Buy that performs like this one for her as she uses it for school and read other complaints of yours?
Where is this world going to? It wasn’t like this in the past. How do you get satisfaction with your purchases and service? I’m getting enough money to buy, but everything is in my reach, but I can’t count on any company to satisfy and perform as it should. The desire for money is ruining quality and attitude. I got just enough room to see to type this. One company wanted $300.00. Before my extras, that’s all I paid for the computer.
I write my complaints on Facebook about bad companies, whether it’s legal or not. I haven’t looked for my receipt lately but I’m sure I have it. I’m willing to give someone a second chance if the effort is there, but I am not satisfied with this product at this point. My son works for Comcast and connects with a lot of people to get opinions and give his views.
How about you correct this problem for this family and my next purchase will be based on your play, rather tell people that they took care of me than I have had a bad experience with them. I need the help. Do you sleep well at night? Someday you may be in my shoes or someone you know. Remember, as a person and a company, we are what we do. Now, a box says protection suite error.
Battery: In early January, I bought a Presario cq62 laptop on my birthday. It has a very bad back-up, only 40-45 minutes. So I am very angry on this. This is my 4th complaint, but even so, I don't get any response.
I purchased my Compaq Presario cq57 in August 2011. It came with a dead battery. So the first time my husband spent an hour and a half on the phone with a CSR in Bombay (Compaq states that the customer service is in USA). Then we started our hate affair with Compaq. Month after month we have sent the computer back to Compaq only to have it returned non-working again. By the way, we purchased this laptop for school and have been left without a source for our writing, having to borrow computers even though we purchased a brand new machine. So, my husband just got off the phone with Compaq. He was on the phone 3-1/2 hours (no, not an exaggeration) and they refused to let him speak with a supervisor about our recurring non-working computer. They basically said they could switch out the battery and in August it wouldn't be their problem anymore. How is this legal? Please don't buy Compaq!
My C Drive without warning became full. And the computer took it upon itself to create something called a D Drive and dumped everything there. But I could not access it in any way. Now a message keeps coming up that the D drive is full.
The computer was purchased through Tiger Direct on 08/05/11. The computer purchased was a Compaq Presarion C056 219WM. The product number is XY871UAR #ABA. After about a month of usage, the laptop was opened. The screen was completely black and then it looked as if the screen had cracks. The laptop has never been dropped. I have contacted the company three times at their customer service number. The representatives are extremely rude. Request for managerial assistance are denied. I spoke with April and a representative named Isnal. He pretended like he did not speak English. The call occurred at approximately 2:31 on October 1st. The company needs to return my money or replace the computer. Their product and service is horrible.
First, my wireless card died shortly followed by my motherboard. Now, my Compaq F700 laptop will not turn on at all.
I restarted my computer because it was going way too slow. So when I restarted it, I noticed that my internal camera was "not found". I don't know how to solve this problem and I'm finding it very annoying.
I bought a $300 laptop for my son. Within two days, he was complaining that the touchpad did not work correctly. I gave it a few days to see if he just was not used to a touchpad. Once I checked on the problem a week had gone by. I called Compaq. They were polite and walked me through a few steps to attempt to correct. It was determined the computer had a hardware fault with the touchpad.
I was then instructed that I would have to pay $35 to send the unit in for repair. I can buy a regular mouse for less than that. I informed the tech that I would bring the computer back to Wal-Mart. I did just that and got a Toshiba instead. I have always been pro Compaq, but it appears they are having real greed problems. It also appears I was fortunate after reading other people story. I will not buy another Compaq without a detailed warranty that includes shipping the unit to them for manufacture defects.
I have a Compaq Presario CQ 50-139WM. When I received the class action notice (NVIDIA GPU), I was surprised that my model was not on it, since it has all the problems mentioned especially screen going blue with running lines particularly while playing games, sound and game remain, no screen for extended period of time, etc. Why wasn't my model included? It has all the problems and needs to be fixed. It sounds like I am not the only one. Also, you cannot have the laptop on your lap while you are using it or it will burn you.
Bought a computer from Walmart 2 months ago. The computers hinges were so stiff that the screen cracked. Contacted their customer service department, and the rep said that it would be covered under the 1 yea warranty given at the time of purchase. I sent it to the repair site only to be informed that they would only fix it for $500. I only paid $350 for the computer brand new.
My son's laptop is 6 months old. This week, the screen is messed up. I went to Best Buy, where we purchased it, and they were no help at all. They said that it was impact damage and they wouldn't do anything to help. So I called Compaq directly. They were less than helpful telling me that because I hadn't purchased the accidental warranty, they had to charge for the repair. They wanted to charge me $427! My son only paid $423 with shipping and handling! I am so upset! They were rude and blamed my son for misusing his computer. He babies his laptop and takes great care of it!
I purchased a Compaq Presario cq40 133tu from door computer center, Durgapur City Center. Since the first day of purchased, it creates problem at first DVD writer problem, they changed the writer. After some month, arise another problem, display problem. They also changed the display but after one month of warranty period display became damaged. Repair cost is too big for me to spend.
The speakers aren't worth a damn! I can't hear them!
I have purchased my Compaq Presario Cq40-317TU last year 26th May, 2009. But within one year, the battery as well as the adaptor is not working. The owner of the shop, from where I purchased my laptop, died so the shop is also close forever. What to do now? I can’t explain. Shall I keep my laptop in the dustbin or where?
I received a Compaq mini 110C-1100DX Netbook computer as a Christmas gift. When I opened the box, I noticed a small scratch on the lower corner of the bezel that surrounds the display. As a scratch was no big deal, I ignored it. Now, 5 months later, the scratch has turned into a crack. Upon contacting HP, I was told that they would not cover the repair, and that I needed to buy this $60 piece of plastic or it would ruin my display. The machine has never been dropped or mishandled, and I think that since it was damaged when new, it should be repaired.
I bought a Compaq F700 Pasario laptop from Aron's rental. I got it paid off. Just last week, it died. The hard drive went out and it was still new looking. I lost all my info and it will cost me big to fix the hard drive and reload Windows. I wished I knew about these laptops and how a lot of people tell me they had their hard drive go out just over a year old. I had to replace that computer with another. It cost me big! I thought I was going to experience some time without buying a new laptop!
I bought a Compaq laptop in November 2008. 2 months later, it crashed. I phoned HP, and they told me what to do. 2 months later, all I got was a white screen. I phoned HP, and they told me to remove the battery and put it back in. This relieved the problem for a while. Then I had to phone again for the same problem. Acted up all summer and had to wait till I came back to my winter home to take it back.
While it was still under warranty, I took it back, and they had it from November 4 to 20. They finally replaced the LCD. Now 6 weeks later, it's not under warranty, and they won't look at it until I pay $18 per hour. I don't have that kind of money. I have had nothing but trouble with it, and I always heard HP was a good product. I can't hardly get on my computer anymore, because it jumps all over the place and I can't read it. Please help me.
We are two customers who bought a Presario v6000 laptop in January 2007. Both the laptops came with same configuration and have an AMD processor. Within 3 years of purchase, the motherboards of both the laptops have gone bad and the laptop is not switching on. Moreover, when shown to authorized Compaq service stations, they are asking for Rs 12,000 to change the mother board with only one month warranty. I seek the company's help in resolving the problem of the laptops else, I will have to decide to go to consumer court. I purchased the laptops for Rs 44,000 each and the cost to repair both at the Compaq service station is Rs 12,000 each.
I bought a Compaq Presario desktop computer (Vista) in 2007. The recovery disc creation as explained in the user manual does not work. Compaq no longer give the recovery cd at the time of purchase. The consumer has to download the driver and copy it on a cd. Compaq wants to charge me a fee of $200.00 for sending me a component (The recovery disc drivers) that is part of the computer at the time of purchase.
The Compaq Presario (Vista) that cost me around $700.00 cannot be used because I get an error message suggesting a recovery disc needs to be created in order to save the computer. I lost $700.00
I bought a Compaq Presario V5201US about 2 years ago in the US at Staples. It has been working properly for about less than a month... Then all of a sudden it became slow as hell (by that time I left the US and couldn't return it or have a warranty repair). It takes about 5 to 7 minutes for the Windows to start. It can't do anything - the media players (even new ones that I had installed) can't play media. Well they can but so slow that it's impossible to watch. It takes 2 minutes to open an internet browser, and when it starts glitching it sounds more like washing machine than a computer. I tried to fix it (reinstalling Windows) and now it’s gone. It was the most useless 700 bucks I had ever spent. Compaq is to be voted the worst laptop ever. Thanks for taking the time to read it.
I have had my Compaq Presario for about 2 years. Although I use it daily, I am the only user. About 2 weeks ago the hinge on the right-hand side snapped out. Today the hinge on the left broke. I think there will be a time soon when the screen will not remain upright. I wonder if this problem can be fixed.
In early March 2008 I order a Compaq Presario desktop computer from Walmart.com for my mother. The order went fine and the computer was received fully intact. After setting up the computer and installing all the software updates, the computer began experiencing problems. When it would go into standby mode it would crash. The only way to turn it off was to do a hard shutdown, which caused the computer to crash again.
I called Compaq and spent several hours on the phone with them trying to correct the error. My main complaint lies in what the Compaq technical assistance told me about my computer. I had given them the serial and part numbers and they told me that this computer had experienced similar problems in December 2007 and asked if this was the second time I was calling. I told him that I had just purchased this item, which was listed as new. He told me that someone else had called complaining about the same problem with this computer. He could not give me any further details, but this lead me to believe that my computer, which was listed as BRAND NEW and not REFURBISHED, was bought and returned by a previous consumer and then sold to me under false pretenses.
This was unacceptable, so I called Walmart and told them what had happened. They paid to have the computer picked up and refunded my money. I am filing this complaint because I fear that the computer that I returned will just be re-fabricated, boxed and sold to another consumer as new. Items that have been returned after being opened are supposed to be listed as open box or refurbished or used. Walmart is targeting their unaware customers and it is unacceptable. I do not intend to purchase any electronic goods from Walmart in the future but wish to warn future customers of my experience with this company.
My mother had to go over a month without a computer because of this experience. After removing her old computer and setting up this new one, I had to spend hours on the phone with technical support trying to correct the error. After that, I had to re-box and return the computer, only to leave her with no computer at all. It took me weeks to find another computer and to have it delivered and set up. While Walmart did refund my money very quickly, it still cost me a lot of time and energy to remedy this situation for my mother.
I had a Compaq laptop. it had insurance and it broke. i caled compaq and they sent me a new laptop BUT with NO serial or MODEL number tag. It looks as though is was intentionally cut off. This is against the law in CA to have something with no serial number. I have called them and they say they cant do anything about it.
I have had my Compa Presario for almost two years despite one major flaw. It gets extremely hot. The box on power cord gets so hot that even brushing it with my hand just briefly is enough to make my arm jump away. It has become even more of a hazard now that I have pets, as I do not want them to get injured. Additionally, the top left corner of the unit gets extremely hot as well, though not to the extent that the box (the adaptor?) does. This overheating problem has also caused the pixels in the lower portion of my screen to die.
I feel that I must state, having dealt with many laptops in the past years, that I am well aware that laptops do get warm and sometimes hot to the touch. However, the amount of heat that is put out through the box on the power cord is unacceptable and poses a serious threat to myself and others around me.
I received a Compaq Evo for Xmas. Worked great. Then, the battery died. This cleared the bios. Could not restart the computer. I took it to Best Buy geek squad. I was told to throw computer away, as there is no way to reload bios if battery fails. A $15 battery supplied with the computer failed, and now I have a fancy bookend. I am a home-ridden disabled senior on a pension. Obviously I cannot buy a new one. This is a product that cannot be fixed. This is a first for me.
I am a home-ridden disabled senior. I sit alone in my room. I cannot get out. Now I have no diversions. Just sit here until I die. I have advanced heart disease. No cure. Diabetes, etc.
