I'm a loyal VW owner. I've been driving VW for over 10 years now. I've owned BMW, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Chrysler, and Chevy. I enjoy the driving experience, dependability, simple dashboard, and sleek design. VW service in Myrtle Beach for maintenance is always a great experience compared to other dealers. I don't care for spending my time at the dealership but can't avoid car maintenance. VW strives for good customer experience by all staff and it shows. It makes me happy that VW is now unionized. I will be a long term VW customer. I stand behind this company.

Hi, Just sharing my experience with a recent clutch slave cylinder failure I had with my 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 2.0L engine w manual transmission. Vehicle was purchased from a Canadian Volkswagen dealership in 2019. Symptoms: Clutch pedal stuck in depressed position, vehicle unable to shift gears, hydraulic fluid leaking under hood/transmission case. My vehicle was at 70,000km at the time of the failure, and powertrain warranty just 3 days short of expiration by sheer luck. Brought the vehicle to a local dealership and they expressed that the vehicle would not be covered under the powertrain warranty.
The Owner Warranty and Maintenance Manual and Volkswagen's internal "Warranty Policies and Procedures Manual" (VWC 2023), both explicitly state that powertrain warranty will cover failure of the following parts/components; transmission, transmission case, and “all internal parts” of the transmission and/or transmission case, as well as “all related seals and gaskets” of the mentioned components. The warranty covers said failure of parts due to poor material/workmanship. Since the clutch slave cylinder and leaking hydraulic line are within the transmission case, the verbiage found within both manuals, convey an identical message; the repairs should in fact eligible for coverage as a 5 year powertrain warranty item.
Definition of “internal” (Black’s Law Dictionary): “Belating to the Interior j comprised within boundary lines; of interior concern or interest; domestic, as opposed to foreign.” Definition of “internal” (Merriam-Webster): "Existing or situated within the limits or surface of something.” To go a step further, a publication on Law Insider defines “internal parts” as such; “a subset of products that are parts and components inside a [system] and which are not visible to the user during normal operation of that [system]. For the avoidance of doubt, “normal operation” for purposes of this definition does not include inspection, calibration, maintenance, and service, or any other activity which would involve the removal or opening of a fastener or panel to gain access to the interior of the [system].”
The publication even makes use of warranty language detailing a transmission case’s internal parts, as an example to convey the definition of internal parts. Please see below: Internal parts of a transmission example: “Transmission: Transmission Case and all Internal Parts; Torque Converter; Drive/Flex Plate; Transmission Range Switch; Speed Sensors; Pressure Sensors; Transmission Control Module; Bell Housing; Oil Pan; Seals and Gaskets for listed components only.”
This is quite an expensive repair due to the internalized clutch components, and I am looking at $5000 CAD worth of repairs to replace the clutch slave cylinder/release bearing, clutch kit (due to contamination from the leak), to reassemble transmission, and bleed/refill the hydraulic lines. This is not including replacement of the contaminated flywheel. (The dealer's technician said that the flywheel was "okay".) It is to my understanding that the slave cylinder is not a wear/tear item, and the line leakage is likely due to the poor plastic material of the slave cylinder. Either way, I would absolutely classify this as a relevant seal/gasket since the failure was likely an internal seal which caused a leak in the sealed hydraulic line.
I have spoken with the dealer and manufacturer on multiple occasions and they continuously have told me their "hands are tied" and the manufacturer tells me that if the dealership will not honor the repair under warranty, then it there is nothing that can be done. They have been quite literally useless in assisting me, and the dealership has lied to me multiple times, even stating that even if the failure was determined to be a warranty item, that the 5 year warranty term would only be honored up to the date that the repair is performed, and not the date that the vehicle was initially brought into the dealership.

We bought a brand new 2024 VW Atlas. I'm 1,600 Km into ownership of this car and it's now in for the 3rd time for warranty issues. That's right. I have now have been to the shop more times than the gas station. The latest, it's got an oil leak. Can you believe that. Both the dealership and VW customer care seem useless. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for your next car.

I bought VW Jetta in 2017 and it has been a frustrating experience owning that car. Few weeks after I bought the car, there was a noise coming from rear-right hand side tire every time I park the car after driving it for a few miles. I took it to dealer and they were not able to find anything. Then I recorded the sound, but still the dealer was not able to identify the issue. Then the sunroof started to come off, which was fixed by dealer. I own cars since almost last 30 years, but I have never faced similar problems with any other car as I faced with VW Jetta. In last 4 years, there hasn't been a single year where I didn't face the problem with this car.
In 2020, some sensors stopped working and all symbols on the dashboard came on. In 2021, the window glass stopped going up and down. It was fixed by replacing OEM regulator and motor; however the window glass stopped working again in 3 years. Last year, the automated gear/transmission cable broke and I wasn't able to put the car in the Park mode - ended up towing to the shop. It seems the parts used to make the car are very fragile and not durable. This is my first and last VW car purchased!!

Bought a new Tiguan which came with 4 years complimentary car net service. Tried to set it up the day I brought the vehicle home and it wouldn’t connect. Called VW Canada who blamed the dealership. Dealership says it’s a Car Net issue. Upshot is that my new car has been at the service department for four weeks and it still hasn’t been resolved, nor is there a plan or a fix coming.

Bought a new 2024 Tiguan. Started hearing noise in roof within 2000 miles. Carried vehicle to dealership. They worked on it, said it was repaired. Picked it up. Noise Started back before we could get home. Carried vehicle back to dealership. Attempted repair again. Same result. After 5 attempts and more than 60 days of being out of service dealership wrote on repair order all repair attempts have been exhausted. They advised Volkswagen corporate. Asked corporate for a buyback. They took 65 days to say no. Have not received any information about how or where to go for repairs. This company is awful to deal with. STAY AWAY FROM VOLKSWAGEN.

Updated on 11/03/2024: The company, Volkswagen, returned my money finally. October 30th I received my money back from the payment I made in good faith in September. While they eventually returned my money, their business practice is such that I will never lease from them again. Period.
Original Review: I leased my VW in October of 2023 and everything went great. Someone hit me and totaled out my car on September 7, 2024. I immediately contacted VW to let them know what had happened - their concern was that I be sure to send in my September payment on September 24th. I then received emails and phone calls and even an actual letter in the mail from them reminding me to keep up my end of the deal and make that payment even tho I no longer have a car.
I paid my payment. The other insurance paid out on the total loss. VW received both payments on 9/24/24. VW credited everything to my account on 10/4/24. I know all of this because VW told me. And yet they refuse to uphold their end of the bargain and return my overage payment. They told me there is a credit on my account of $609.64. They understand I no longer have an account with them and are purposely being obtuse and belligerent to work with. Volkswagen has sat on my money for weeks now and refuses to return it and now refuses to take any of my phone calls. 0/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND VOLKSWAGEN.

I only gave one star out of force. VW does NOT stand behind their vehicles. My son has a 2017 VW Jetta that had a recall. His vehicle broke down. We had to pay to tow it twice. There is no dealership in my town so I took it to a shop that works solely on imports and they made the repairs. Once complete, I was told that fix was actually a recall. VW made me take it 45 minutes away to verify the work was done and they REFUSE to pay for it. They are a JOKE. Not happy with them at all. Had to pay $1300.00 for a job that was a "safety recall". How did they get away with this??

PSA: If you're looking to buy an electric car, do not buy a Volkswagen ID4. The battery charging module on my 3 months old VW ID4 failed spontaneously and repairs are expected to take several months.
