Consumer Complaints and Reviews
I called Penske Honda on 4/6 to make an appointment. I was told the parts would be available in 5-7 days and would be notified. No return call even though I waited 3 weeks to call again. Had to call Honda corporation 5-7 times. Today is 5/22 and it is finally getting fixed. I was told by the person that scheduled my appt it would be 30-45 min. I get here and am told 1 1/2, maybe 2 hours. Service tech could not have been less interested. Service Manager was also disinterested in my problem with the time frames and total lack of customer service. He did manage to get my car done faster and offered a car wash. According to the service manager Honda Corp does not communicate with the dealers so that their time frames, scheduling, etc. are coordinated. No one is on the same page.
I was quoted a price for the Accord LX via email. The only thing the email specified was the price and Accord LX. I called to verify the car configuration that I wanted was in stock and that they would give me that price for the specific LX I wanted. Turns out the quote was for the manual transmission model, and that it would be an additional $1200!!! While trying to explain my situation, I was treated extremely rudely and wasn't given what was offered to me. The salesperson that verified the configuration/price was conveniently not there, as if it made a difference!!
I went in after research done on the internet to find the car listed at a higher price than online. When I noted some damage to used 2012 Honda Accord, their response, "Then don't get this car." When we were brought inside to supposedly negotiate a price on a car, the manager came in and said that the listed price is the last price and "they don't negotiate prices at Penske Honda" after I said that they should negotiate the price and no one buys at stickered price. Overall, they were rude and not willing to lower the price at all on a used vehicle, not consumer friendly at all. After reading all the comments listed, I'm glad I didn't purchase from them but bought the car I wanted with better service at Sierra Honda.
I got the car on 3/10. It is now 9/10 and it still has no tags. It has been pulled over two times with tickets, I called every month asking for my tags, and I was told that the window sticker was good to tell. I got the tag and DMV just told me that it’s only 90 days and that we a fare passed this. Now, I have to make payments on the car so I can drive and they tell me that they fired the DMV girl so it’s not their fault, it’s hers. It seems to me like a bad customer service.
Bought a 2009 pilot 3 days ago, prior to that did an internet price quote. Receive the quote 2 days after purchase wanna return car, or if they are willing to work with $4500 difference from another dealer but refuse to settle any. What can i do?

Purchased a 2006 Civic EX from this dealership on 11/4/2007. Car was 'Certified' with 34,640 miles upon delivery. Purchased complete extended warranty including exterior paint. Paid total of $21,564.88 including tax & license [license was $23 - we got new bill from DMV with 15 days for $168].
A month or 2 later, brought to dealership for general service - oil change. Notified service that air conditioning was having problems [not cold]. Service indicated they couldn't find the leak, however, put red dye in so they could find it next time.
6/23 - contacted Henry G to make service appointment. Left in after hours service area.
6/24 - Henry called to get list of issues - air conditioning not working, burning smell coming from vents, engine running rough.
Response - compressor has hole from road hazard, not covered under extended warranty. Cost $680+
Response - smell from vents require replacing pollen filter. Cost $90+
Response - checking engine, nothing yet.
Addition - major service due. Cost $289
Addition - front brake pads need replacing as they are right at sensors. No price quoted.
We purchased a supposedly 'Certified' vehicle. Reading from the list of certification standards published by Honda, by no stretch of logic can I believe these services/inspections were done. Let's take this one at a time as follows:
Major service - item #17 - 'nearest schedule maintenance must be performed if within 3 months or 2,500 miles of service interval, or if no record of service exists'. Since the mileage was after 30k miles, this service should have been performed. According to Henry, 'it appears a service was done @ 27k miles'. If that's so, then the major service is not due now. Quite frankly, this service should have been done @ 34,640, not some vague maybe 7,640 miles prior to. That's not what was represented and certainly not what we paid for.
Brake pads - item #11 - 'disc brake pads - replace if wear is greater than 50 percent'. I assume a full record of the 150 point inspection is kept, what is the level on the brake pads upon purchase? This information was not give me, is it in the maintenance records? When were the brakes last replaced. If they are the original pads, no way should this car have been sold without changing them. Pads lasting less than 20k miles on a car with most freeway, none rush hour driving is not reasonable.
Condenser/Compressor - items #49 & #54 - 'A/C condenser - corrosion, road-hazard damage' and 'A/C compressor - proper cycling, belt condition/tension'. Judging by the track record on this 'Certified' inspection, no road hazard damage was found since none was looked for. With your service techs already knowing there was a problem, now I'm being expected to swallow that the demise of this system is now due to some errant rock that miraculously freed Penske of any responsiblity. As to the warranty, not their problem - it road hazard.
Pollen filter - ok, I'll bit. However, $90 is beyond a joke
Economic - over $1000 to repair. Paid for something I didn't get - Certified Honda Used Car. Now I have concerns as to the total condition of the car since representations made are proving false.
After I had put about 2500 miles on my 2007 Honda Accord Hybrid, it began to backfire -- it made the sound of a backfire and jerked at the same time. This happens every time I accelerate out of a left turn and oftentimes when I accelerate from a stop.
I took the car in and they made a replacement to a part that, as I understand it, has something to do with the engine mount. After I picked up the car, it was great for about 150 miles, then the backfire and jerk started again, but I could feel that it was from a different area of the car.
I took the car back in on 6/26, and did not receive any contact from Penske until I called them on 6/29. When I did talk with them, they advised me that Honda Engineering is calling the situation characteristic of the vehicle. Therefore, neither Honda or Penske is going to do anything about it. I met with the General Manager and the Service Manager to let them know that I was not pleased and this result was unacceptable. They said that this problem, although it is troublesome to me, is not necessarily something that would bother anyone else. I let them know that every person riding in my car asks me what is wrong with it.
They basically said that there was nothing they could do about it other than file a case with Honda. The General Manager, Bruce Heath, did offer to take the car in trade, but for significantly less than I had paid for the car.
The car drives, but it consistently makes the backfire sound and jerks through the first 2 gear changes. To sell it now would mean I would lose about $10,000, after having put just 3300 miles on the car.

When I asked if they were in stock he wrote back that they were due in a few weeks and he could put me on a waiting list and to please call. I called and he told me that the cars were on a first come, first serve basis, and that they would probably have additional accessories that I would have to pay for. I told him no, I wanted the car he had quote me, and he asked me do you want to just pay for a mark up or for a few accessories?
I am submitting this complaint because this kind of activity --false advertising via the internet has occured with 3 Toyota dealers as well. It seems that the price quotes are sent out to consumers with not intention of making a car available at that price.
my car dash lights were all activiated. Doors/Trunk/Brake. Worried that something might happen, decided to take it to Penske Honda. I work in Ontario too. It was closer than Rock Honda. Told the service agent the problem. I also asked about the 90,000 miles service, I only had 84,500 miles on it. If I should do it or not, he said yes do it.
It was about 7am when I dropped it off, it wasn't until almost noon that I got a call from Kent that I needed a new circuit board, new alternator, new motor monts that were cracked which were costing well over a $1000. I didn't even know that the 90,000 miles service was already completed. I should have been told if I still wanted to do this. I was more concern with the problem of the dash lights than anything else. I told Kent that I couldn't afford it and that I need the car back and would decide later. This would be a big expense. Kent just said I have the items in stock. I end up paying for the service, $343.
I picked up the car and decided to get a second opinion. I did and the only problem the other Honda service told me was that I need an alternator and that would take care of the lights, nothing more or less. How dare Penske take advantage of a customer. I have informed friends and relatives to stay away from Penske. This company is a rip off.
Penske should have been honest and how reliable is their mechanics, this is not right. I shouldn't paid for the 90,000 mile service if it was ready for it. Kent should have suggested to come back when I was closer.
December 18, 1995 I traded my 94 5.0 convertable (payed off) for a 96 Civic. My whole reason for this was I had just been married 3 months prior, and wanted to have something more for a family of 4. When I traded my Mustang in it had 23,000 miles on it. I owned it out right, and was able to strike a deal to trade straight across for a Civic HX off of the show room floor. However, out of my mustang I was to keep the 10 disc Sony changer and the Sony headunit, but would give them the stock stereo, and I was also to keep the custom rims I had put on it.
My husband was at work when I did this trade (big no no). Service dept. was closed and it was late so I was to come back the following afternoon and pick up my disc changer and rims. When my hubby and i got there the changer was gone, rear speakers gone, etc,.. I complained to management and his response to me was, we arent liable for property stolen out of vehicles, thats why we tell peole not to leave anything of value in their cars, we dont lock any vehicles in the back, report it to your insurance.
Im not one to ever bite my tongue, I say what think of a situation regardless who or where I may be. I let him know that normal thieves dont tape and lable the mounting screws, which were left in the trunk. The most I got from them on this was a stock honda cd player, which during the time I had the car had to be replaced 3 times (getting them to repair, or replace was a nightmare), until I finally went and bought a new aftermarket head unit.
As if the above wasnt enough, 3 days after I drove my Civic home, it rained. In my trunk I had a $2500. camcorder, my $3700. camera (yes I said $3700.), and a $400. leather jacket in my trunk, because my stepsons x-mas play was at that time, when we went to take them out for the show, I realized everything in my trunk was soaked! Not damp, not a little wet, SOAKED!!! Water dripping from everything. Im sure you all know the result with those items.
When I called Penske, they appologized told me to bring it in, the service writer was sweet as he could be (wish I could remember his name), didnt have my car for 2.5 days, got it back just in time for it to rain again. Still leaking. This went on for almost 3 years.
Also, my daughter (in her car seat) was buckled in the back seat, I had to make a sudden stop, her seat belt somehow comes undone, and shes slammed into the back of the front pass. seat. I screamed in the middle of their show room to anyone and everyone who tried to tell me the general manager wasnt there until he finally decided its better if he mans up and speaks with me. Needless to say I went off.
Another fun never ending task was the O2 sensor. Not even 14000, miles on the car and any time I was at a complete stop my temp would rise up. If I was moving no matter how fast or slow, it would drop back down. No matter how hot or cold it was outside, it wanted to over heat at a stop. I forget exactly how many times we took it in for that, I believe it was somewhere along the lines of 9-10. By the tenth time or so, they tried to tell me my warranty was up. For some reason my being female they automatically assumed I was an idiot. I told them the Ca state mandatory warranty for all emissions and smog parts were more like 150000, miles, and the O2 was included in that. So, I then got an attitude from hell and they then tried to tell me that that warranty is good as long as everything was still stock, and my car was not. This leading to yet another long fight between the dealership and I.
I have so many other little things that I could go on for days about, but Im just going to say this, anyone who likes drama will like Penske, to all who wish to avoid dealing with a bunch of jerks, thieves, and liars, I would choose another dealer. I will NEVER purchase another Honda from any where, just cause of the experience I had with them. NEVER!!!
I lost one of my dream cars that I bought cash on my 18th birthday, in hopes of having a cheeper upkeep, more reliable, less maintnance vehicle, and I got a piece of sh@t! Guess we all learn from our mistakes, and a Honda is one I will NEVER make again!
I THINK THIS IS REFERED TO AS SPOT DELIVERY ON YOUR WEB SITE....I WENT DOWN DID ALL THE PAPERWORK GAVE $2500.00 DOWN SIGNED CONTRACT AND DROVE AWAY. ON 02/09/03 I WAS CONTACTED 03/04/03 AND TOLD BY KENNETH BONNER THE FINANCE COMPANY WANTED $1000.00 MORE DOWN TO FINANCE ME AND THAT ALTHOUGH THE MONEY COULD WAIT HE NEEDED ME TO COME DOWN AND SIGN A NEW CONTRACT RIGHT AWAY. ACCORDING TO THE CONTRACT SELLER DOES HAVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL THE CONTRACT BUT IF HE ELECTS TO DO SO HE MUST NOTIFY ME WITHIN 10 DAYS OF THE DATE ON THE CONTRACT. NOW MR. BONNER WANTS ME TO TAKE TIME FROM MY JOB TO DELIVER THE CAR TO HIM. SINCE I HAVE NO MORE MONEY TO GIVE HIM.
