Onust offers two vehicle coverage plans. Plans include 24/7 towing and emergency roadside assistance, safety and recall notifications and real-time connection with an ASE-certified mechanic. No vehicle inspections are required to join, and the mechanical breakdown coverage comes with a $0 deductible and begins immediately.

Pros
  • Zero deductible for repairs
  • Cancel at any time
  • Recall notification
  • 24/7 roadside assistance
  • Unlimited mileage limits once you become a member
Cons
  • Activation fee with Onust Connect Plus plan

What is Onust?

Onust is a vehicle breakdown coverage and extended auto warranty company. It offers two plans, with costs ranging from $24.99 to $44 or more per month. All plans include 24/7 vehicle roadside assistance and towing, connection to ASE-certified mechanics and vehicle safety and recall notifications.

The Onust Connect Plus plan adds on mechanical breakdown coverage with a $0 deductible. Coverage kicks in immediately. An activation fee (starting at $250) is required with this plan. Most vehicles are eligible for coverage as long they have 100,000 miles or fewer and are not older than 10 model years. European, diesel and electric vehicles qualify with 65,000 miles or less. Once a person registers their vehicle for Onust Connect Plus before these mileage requirements, they can drive their vehicle with no mileage terms and will be covered for the lifetime of their vehicle.

How does Onust work?

Onust offers two levels of coverage: Onust Connect Tech and Onust Connect Plus. Onust Connect Tech is primarily a roadside assistance plan, while Onust Connect Plus adds mechanical breakdown coverage, rental car coverage and travel lodging reimbursement.

You can sign up for an Onust plan online. Once you’ve chosen a plan and made your first month’s payment, coverage starts immediately. The Onust Connect Trust plan does require a one-time activation fee that varies based on your vehicle type, model and mileage. Activation fees start at $125. Onust plans are month to month and can be canceled at any time without a fee.

Each plan from Onust includes roadside assistance, which you can access 24/7 by phone. If you have the Onust Connect Plus plan and your vehicle breaks down, you can take it to any ASE-certified mechanic and have the shop call the Onust claims department. There is no deductible.

Onust plans

Onust has two coverage plans:

  • Onust Connect Tech: This basic plan includes 24/7 towing and emergency roadside assistance, vehicle and safety recall notifications and real-time connections with ASE-certified mechanics for answers to your questions. Roadside assistance includes flat tire assistance; fuel, oil, fluid and water delivery; lockout assistance; dead battery assistance; and ride-share assistance.
  • Onust Connect Plus: Onust’s highest-level plan includes everything in the Onust Connect plan, plus mechanical breakdown coverage, rental car coverage and lodging reimbursement. Onust covers repair and replacement of thousands of parts and components in these categories:
    • Engine
    • Transmission
    • Drivetrain assembly
    • Suspension
    • Steering
    • Brakes
    • Electrical
    • Air conditioning and heating
    • Fuel system
    • Cooling system
    • Interior electronics
    • Convenience accessories
    • Vehicle hardware
    • Electrical vehicle components
    • Other components
    • Sport package components

Be sure to read over your contract for excluded parts and repairs. For example, Onust states that it does not pay for repairs necessitated by the failure of the exhaust system or catalytic converter. It also does not cover specific services, such as fixes of squeaks or rattles or corrections of air or water leaks.

Certain vehicles are ineligible for mechanical breakdown coverage from Onust. These include vehicles with over 100,000 miles, vehicles over 10 model years old and specific vehicle models.

How much does Onust cost?

The Onust Connect Tech plan starts at $24.99 a month, respectively, at the time of publishing.

The Onust Connect Plus has a starting cost of $44 per month, plus a one-time activation fee starting at $125. The monthly cost and activation fee depend on the year, make, model and mileage of the vehicle. You can get a quote for the Onust Connect Plus plan online; you’ll need to provide your primary state of residence, ZIP code and email address, as well as your vehicle identification number (VIN) or the vehicle’s year, make, model, drivetrain and fuel type.

Onust FAQ

What are Onust’s coverage limitations?

Onust’s roadside assistance benefit doesn’t cover the cost of emergency fuel, fluids, parts or replacement keys. It is not available more than once in a seven-day period or more than three times in a calendar year.

Your Onust mechanical breakdown coverage should list noncovered parts, services and conditions, so read it over carefully. For example, noncovered parts may include audio speakers and the exhaust system, and noncovered services may include engine tuneups and removal of contaminants.

Onust does not pay for repairs performed without prior authorization or breakdowns due to preexisting conditions, vehicle misuse or negligence. It also doesn’t cover your vehicle’s repairs if it’s still under manufacturer warranty.

Can I choose my own mechanic with Onust?

You can use any ASE-certified mechanic to perform repairs on your vehicle.

Can I transfer my Onust plan if I sell my car?

You cannot transfer an Onust plan to a new owner.

Can I cancel Onust?

You can cancel an Onust plan at any time without a fee. Access to your plan continues until the end of the billing cycle; however, if you cancel within the first 30 days of sign-up, you can get a refund of both the monthly subscription fee and the activation fee (if you’ve made no claims).

How long does an Onust contract last?

Onust plans are month to month and last as long as you pay the monthly fee.

Is Onust legit?

If you’re looking for vehicle coverage for roadside assistance or mechanical breakdowns, it’s worth comparing Onust’s plans and costs with those of other companies. Onust differs from many extended auto warranty providers by covering your vehicle on day one — but you do have to pay an activation fee of at least $125. There are coverage exclusions for all plans, so it’s important to read the fine print of your agreement. Plans are month to month, and Onust makes it easy to cancel at any time.

I purchased an extended vehicle warranty with Onust based on a recommendation from my mechanic. He spoke highly of the company, and that convinced me to sign up with them after my manufacturer's warranty had expired. The sign-up process was straightforward and easy—I received a card with a link to register, and there were no significant issues.

I opted for coverage that takes care of major repairs, as I wasn't interested in coverage for regular maintenance like oil changes and tires. I've filed a claim once, and my experience was smooth. My mechanic handled the claim on my behalf, contacting Onust, and everything was covered as expected. By the time I picked up my vehicle, there were no out-of-pocket expenses.

One of the reasons I chose Onust is the flexibility to use any mechanic I prefer, which isn't always the case with other coverages. As a tech-savvy individual with a background in computing, I found their website to be quite easy to navigate, deserving at least a 4 or even a 5-star rating.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with Onust. Their service has been reliable, and I would highly recommend them to others, especially once the initial car warranty expires.

The customer support has been fabulous. When the credit card that was on auto-debit was compromised and terminated, and I forgot to update them, they called me. So, it's been really nice and proactive. They seem to be trying to support me.

I bought Onust for the price. The cost is reasonable. I'm satisfied that I purchased it. My experience with customer service was all right. But they're not available only during the week. So, that could be a problem.

      Coverage

      Reviewed Jan. 24, 2025

I researched various vehicle warranty companies online and found Onust to be the best. Since signing up, I’ve been very satisfied with their service. I reviewed several big companies, but none appealed to me like Onust did. The sign-up process was straightforward and my coverage started immediately due to the tier I selected. I'd rate my sign-up experience a 5 out of 5 because I’ve recommended Onust to many friends.

What stood out to me was the personalization of their service. I felt recognized as an individual rather than just another customer. The rapport with the representative was excellent.

      Coverage

      Reviewed Jan. 23, 2025

I chose Honest based on these recommendations and the research I conducted online, which portrayed them positively. They were recommended by my trusted mechanic and I waited until I got the invite from him before signing up. I've had a good experience so far. Luckily, I haven't needed to use the coverage yet, which is a relief, but I'm confident in their service. My decision to get extended coverage was influenced by a previous costly repair on a similar car model, and I believe the monthly payments will be worthwhile in the long term. Overall, I feel like I made the right choice, and I would recommend them.

My mechanic said that Onust doesn't ask questions, they give you everything original parts, and they pay for everything. And when I got the warranty, I told him that the car was a salvage title and they didn't say anything until I put a claim in. After I had paid a couple of months, I had a repair to do and when I went to go over a repair at $3,000, Onust wouldn't cover the cost. I went through their reps a couple of times and I told them that I didn't know about it since they didn't tell me anything about it. I told them that at least they should honor it and if they didn't want to honor anything else, they didn't have to, but they should at least pay me for what I did. Despite that, I'm stuck paying off a $3,300 bill.

      Hi Sebastiano,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. While it is true we pay for claims and members get first day coverage there are some important terms and conditions that you must accept during the sign-up process. Our policy has always been we are not able to provide coverage if a vehicle has been modified, salvaged, rebuilt, deemed a total loss, gray market, or is a similarly titled vehicle. During the process of signing up, you are agreeing to that when you press “continue” that your vehicle is not salvaged as these terms are very prominent on the sign-up page. Our policy for salvage titles is also in our terms and conditions. We understand the frustrations that you felt, and we honored a refund of your one-time activation fee and your two months of payments. Our program cannot cover salvage titled vehicles and we rely on members to provide accurate information to activate coverage. Thank you, Sebastiano, for giving Onust a shot– we truly do appreciate it!

I just recently signed up so there have been no claims made. And the vehicle that we covered is a 2019 Honda CR-V. So, the reliability of the vehicle itself is outstanding. But when your wife and children are driving around and making trips to Arizona in it, from where we live, it's long and we just wanna be at peace with it. My call to Onust when I was still in the researching process and talking about coverage, the process and what it looks like, they were very receptive. Very patient is a good word, because I had lots of questions. The lady stayed on the phone, answered all of my questions, gave me in-depth details about the plan and its coverage, even a new plan that would be launched soon regarding technology coverage.

I spoke with their master technician about my vehicle that I was looking for coverage for and what I might anticipate as far as breakdowns go and what I needed to be looking out for as far as that and some routine maintenance, suggestions and ideas, and some in-depth information there. So, it was a 180 from the experience I had with other companies that I called and tried to converse with. They were ready to get me off the phone and to just sell a policy. So, my experience with Onust was very reassuring that they were helpful. Also, I liked that there's one mechanical breakdown plan. I don't have to be concerned about whether a specific item of my vehicle would be covered or not, if I got the right plan. There's one plan for mechanical breakdown service, so it's covered. It was very easy to understand and comprehensive.

      Coverage

      Reviewed Sept. 15, 2023

What interested me with the coverage was that it has the option for a bumper-to-bumper but when it came down to it, they didn't give me what I needed. They told me it covered the axle and the drivetrain, but it doesn't cover struts and stuff like that, which is the kind of stuff I needed. Also, they said I didn't qualify for any other package, which was another thing that upset me. I only have 150,000 miles and I have a newer vehicle. I don't understand why I wouldn't qualify.

I've been in the car business my whole life and know the traditional service contracts are not available for my type of car because it's too old and it has too many miles on it. I heard about Onust through a mutual friend, and I luckily fit within their parameters. I was able to still purchase the Onust warranty because I was under 10 years and 100,000 miles. Signup was very simple and streamlined, and I had no questions.

I have traditional service contracts on my other vehicles because I bought them when I bought the car, and I did not buy one on this particular car. When Onust became available, I jumped at it, especially because I can keep it for the lifetime of my car, which is very attractive. The coverage is great too. The warranty covers more than the service contracts I have on my other vehicles. I have the coverage if I need it, but I haven't had to make a claim yet. I like that I have the mechanic in my pocket that I can call and ask questions, if I feel like it's something I just need a little information on what button to push, and they would help me.
