What is American Dream Auto Protect?

American Dream Auto Protect is an auto warranty company offering three customizable levels of coverage for new and preowned vehicles. In the event of a covered breakdown, American Dream will work directly with a mechanic to ensure your vehicle gets the repairs it needs.

American Dream has a nationwide network of over 50,000 ASE-certified mechanics, and it offers 24/7 customer service.

How does American Dream Auto Protect work?

With American Dream Auto Protect, you have the ability to choose one of its three standard plan options or customize coverage to fit your needs. Its customer service team can help you navigate your options to find a coverage plan that makes sense for you and your vehicle.

Once you’re enrolled in coverage, your vehicle is covered against certain breakdowns that result from regular use. That means, should a covered item break or malfunction, American Dream will pay to repair or replace it, as long as the cost falls within your coverage limit.

Once you call American Dream’s customer service department, they will connect you to one of the over 50,000 ASE-certified mechanics in the company’s network. American Dream works directly with the mechanic shop for payment. You’ll need to pay a deductible ranging from $100 to $150, but otherwise the cost of repairing or replacing broken components is covered up to the limit listed in your contract.

American Dream Auto Protect plans and coverage

American Dream Auto Protect offers three standard plan options (Silver, Gold and Platinum) plus the ability to customize coverage to your needs.

All plans also include a cancellation option, a monthly payment plan, free towing, rental cars and roadside assistance and a money-back guarantee.

American Dream Auto Protect coverage limits

American Dream Auto Protect covers vehicles up to 20 years or 200,000 miles. This is five to 10 years older than what many car warranty providers allow but a similar mileage limit, which makes American Dream a great option if you need coverage for an older vehicle with low mileage.

According to the sample contract provided by American Dream:

  • The maximum payout for a single repair is the current trade-in value of your vehicle.
  • The maximum total payout for all repairs is either what you paid for the vehicle or whatever your vehicle’s trade-in value was at the time you purchased your coverage plan — whichever is lower.

However, these details can differ on the actual contract you sign, so it’s a good idea to read your contract thoroughly and make sure you understand the limits of your coverage before you sign up.

Still have questions?

Is American Dream Auto Protect worth it?

Yes, American Dream Auto Protect is worth it. It offers a range of coverage options and some helpful benefits, like towing, 24/7 customer service and a large network of mechanics. It doesn’t publish information on pricing, but ConsumerAffairs reviewers felt that the company offers good value, expressing high satisfaction rates with the cost and claims handling.

The maximum mileage limit of 200,000 is typical for many warranty providers, so you may want to compare American Dream with other companies if you drive often. But with a 20-year age limit, American Dream works particularly well for drivers who have an older car with low mileage.

I searched a few places before. I went to CarShield first and they are hecklers. They're still calling me, trying to get me a better deal. I didn't like their pricing model. I didn't like that I will be indefinitely paying for a warranty. But what American Dream has is what I would get through an auto dealer and that's what I liked. So, that's what sold me. When I talked to the sales guy, he talked to me all the way home until I got in my driveway so I could pay him. So, it was great. He didn't mind. It helped me a lot to hear a little bit more about the company. So, I was very happy to get on board. It was very little thought by the time I got done with CarShield and then talking to American Dream. The coverage is really good. You're getting exactly what you need to keep your car running. So, I'm pretty happy with what I have. But it is expensive. $123 a month is a lot.

I called American Dream when I was a little confused about the company name that came to me on an invoice versus what originally came to me as a welcome letter. So, there are two different things. One was part Sparta and one was American Dream. It said you have to cut off the bottom piece and send it back for the agreement. There was a couple of things that were a little confusing, so I wanted some clarification.

When I got the clarification, the rep said, “No. You don't need to send that back.” But then I said, “I really wanna put it on my checking account, and not my credit card.” She told me, “Oh, well, no. We have to have it on the credit card.” So, that's the only thing that didn't make me very happy. I don't want it on a credit card. I went on the website and it looks like I can put it on my checking account. But the rep told me, “No. You have to have it on a credit card.” I would prefer to keep it on a checking account as possible. But when I talked to the rep, she was very emphatic about putting it on a credit card.

I've reached out to American Dream once so I can better understand the payment, and I still don't understand it. I'm one payment away from completing the upfront cost. I'd received an offer from Toyota, and it was more money because I started to compare online. I talked with a young man, and he said I could call him directly whenever I needed help. I did call and inquire while I was on a trip recently, just as an exercise and figuring it out, and I realized that I would have to be prepared to get a motel and a rent-a-car should anything go wrong that's questionable, and have the car put in a shop, get a diagnosis, then contact American Dream to see if it would be covered. I understand that, and that is certainly going to be inconvenient, but I probably won't be driving very far again. I drove from my home to Virginia and back first couple of months.

American Dream's price was less expensive than the Toyota product, and I haven't had a chance to compare it. It was probably not a real wise decision to take it out, because the Toyota is pretty solid. My car doesn't have a lot of stuff go wrong. But, at some point, you have to trust somebody. American Dream's representative was good.

I have a Mercedes E63 that is unique and I had gone to other companies, but they couldn’t offer me the coverage that American Dream did. I was concerned about the engine and the drive train and they insure older or hard-to-insure vehicles. I paid upfront so they gave me a fairly decent incentive, although I had to lay down 4,000 in change for six years. But that breaks down to be cheaper than what I was paying for half the coverage. The signup was easy and painless, and the rep was professional. The rep offered me all the deals that could be offered, especially since I extended out as far as six years. I paid for five and they gave me the sixth year for free, and it's supposed to cover everything, just like all the rest of them, including the oil changes.

The price was right in the ballpark with all the big ones and they turned out to be less with the incentives they gave me as a veteran. And that was a big thing. There are a lot of companies out there that don't care about veterans. At least now, I can go to someplace and get a little appreciation for the time served. We have a choice. As all salesmen, there was a little pressure. They offered the deal, but I had to sign up with them right then. And shopping around, they all say I had 30 days to review it and I could cancel if I didn’t like it. I did it in an hour or less, talking about what coverage. I was being very specific as to what was covered right up to the twin turbos and American Dream’s rep assured me that I could go to the dealership and that I could get all original parts.

I haven't had to make a claim and up until the time that I need to, then I'll know. But as of right now, the experience has been all positive. I read up on them, and they’ve got no better or worse reviews than any of the others but at least it makes you think you have some protection. Although I have a truck that's 23 years old, which they wouldn't cover because they only go to 20 years.

I originally went with Endurance when the warranty on my car ran out. I went with them for my extended warranty because of all the reviews, and I heard that they were supposed to be the best. After the third claim was denied and I spent thousands of dollars on their service, I dropped them. American Dream Auto Protect happened to call me the day that I was dropping them, so I gave them a shot. They said that they're pretty much bumper-to-bumper. So, I decided to go with them because there was a lot of things that Endurance made a big deal about what they were gonna cover, and they didn't.

I got my 2019 XT4 Cadillac covered. I needed $180 to sign up, and that's what my monthly payments will be. I have 30 days to decide whether or not I wanna go with them. The contract pretty much states everything their rep told me it was gonna be. If anything happens to my vehicle, they'll cover it. I've already paid out of pocket everything that happened so far. The rep was thorough and explained everything. Everything he said was contractual. He was efficient in his delivery. He didn't mislead me by any degree. So, it was a good thing.

I'm a master technician, ASE certified, and I used to work on cars. I worked up until 2021. I was a Maryland state inspector for 30 years. I keep my oil and all the maintenance done on time, so nobody can say I didn't change my oil or the coolant because I have all of that done. When I was working in a dealership and cars would come in with the motor locked up, that was the first thing that my supervisor would ask me. "Check the oil." When I look at the oil, it's black, which means they didn't change it. These cars are very susceptible to having that oil changed because they have moving parts that work off of the oil. If the oil is not clean and it gets sludged up, they will stop working, stick, and then they'll cause problems.

I have a Buick Enclave, the premium one, and I haven't had no problem with it since I had it, which is why I wanted to put a warranty on it. A Buick's heater coil is in a position wherein one has take that whole console. The front has to come out to get the heated coil out, and it's something that I wouldn't be able to do. At the time now, I can't crawl up under a car ‘cause I'm 81 years old. I can't take my own transmission out like I used to do.

I signed up with American Dream Auto Protect and it was great. I talked to them on the phone and they gave me all the information I needed. It didn't sound like anything was under the cover. The person I talked to said he was the assistant manager and he explained everything. He told me that if there was a breakdown, it would be covered. He did everything that I felt was right and there wasn't anything that I didn't understand. However, I may be dropping American Dream, because I can get a plan cheaper than that.

The 5 star review is for Saran not the company or the customer service rep Joseph. Saran with cancellations and was very helpful and pleasant to speak with and helped me with what I needed. But the first call I made I talked to a Joseph who tried to transfer me and the line disconnected. He proceeded to use the F word and cuss me out stating I can’t just hang up and call back. When I tried to explain his call didn’t transfer. He hung up on me. Was able to find the direct number to cancellations. And like I said Saran was great.

I had to cancel my account and the young lady that helped me was very meticulous and made sure that my issue was resolved, went the extra mile. She was very understanding and attentive to the situation at hand. She was not reading from a script and was attentive to common sense issues. If more people worked with a moral compass like her business would be much better off.

I happened to see American Dream and called it. It's got good reviews on Google and the rep I signed up with was fine. Everything was good. However, I ain't got what he told me I was gonna get. I'm disappointed because they were supposed to send me a hard copy in about a week and I never got it. I ain’t heard no more from them, and I wanted to know, because I do my own oil changes.

It's been almost a month. I was gonna try to call the rep yesterday. If I didn't get in touch with him, I was canceling. I need the hard copy. They have my email saying that I can change my own oil. I don't know what that does with it, because I change mine every 5,000 or 6,000 miles. My car gets an oil change about every year, whether it needs it or not.
