C.N. of Brooklyn writes:
I am getting married this year and my mom found this woman who sells china, stemware, flatware etc. She gave my mom her card and we made an appt to go and see the merchandise she had at her home. After she showed me the dinnerware and stemware I told the woman which pattern and such I had liked but explained that I would not be purchasing it.

She drew up the contract of everything I had told her I liked, priced it all out, threw in some free merchandise and when she handed me the contract I was hesitant in signing it. You see I needed to give her a deposit of $656.25 right then and there.

Of course I didn't because I had no intention on purchasing these products for myself. So the consultant tells me don't worry about anything just sign it and I'll speak to your mom and we'll take care of it. So of course without reeading the contract I sign and I decide I do not want these products anymore.

In the interim, the consultant contacts my future mother-in-law and tells her about my interest and pushes her to even buy the cookware products, which I didn't want.

My complaint is that even though it states on the contract I have three days to cancel or I will not be refunded the $656.25 deposit which I never left, because of the situation with my wedding and shower and that someone was supposed to buy this for me as a gift I never saw the contract after that, so how was I to know this was going to happen, that after 11 days I was in jeapordy of having my credit ruined by this company.

After this consultant contacted my mother-in-law and made an appt with her, she called today to confirm and my mother-in-law told he not to come because I didn't want the china anymore, the consultant went on a rampage screaming and yelling at my mother why didn't I want these products anymore, I'm not going to find them in the store for this price, and so on.

My mother called Treasury Chest and was spoken to in a very abrupt manner by their customer service people. She then proceeded to ask questions about when we purchased the merchandise if we didn't like it would we be able to return the merchandise and they said and I quote, "Once you purchase it , it's yours, you can not return it."

I feel something needs to be done about this company and the improper way they run their business or maybe their consultants need to actually offer all these stipulations before making a person sign a contract. Please help !!!

There are many "consultants" around who scour the papers for news of engagements, then go out and try to bamboozle the bride. When someone tells you not to bother reading a contract they are trying to get you to sign, that is your cue to beat a hasty retreat.
