Greyhound - Reckless Drivers

Kate of Baton Rouge LA (10/12/04):
On October 10, 2004 at approximately 11:30 PM a Greyhound bus was speeding on I-10 East from Lafayette, Louisiana toward Baton Rouge. It was drizzling outside and the driver was going at least 70 miles an hour on the Atchafalya Bridge (where the speed limit is 55 for trucks), and was tailgating cars and tractor trailers. I was in the right lane and the driver right behind my car, but I refused to speed up.

Approaching Baton Rouge the driver passed me on the Mississippi River Bridge and cut me off, causing me to swerve into the other lane. I slowed down and got behind the bus to get his license plate number; at this point the driver applied his brakes even though there were no cars in front of him. I wrote down his license plate and moved to the right lane to take the offramp onto I-12. The bus driver put on his blanker and acted as if he was going to swerve into my lane, so I moved over into the next lane. At that point he took off his blinker and drove straight toward the downtown area of Baton Rouge where the Greyhound station is located.

This driver was irresponsible and reckless. It was dark, the road was wet, and the driver was speeding and exhibiting a lack of caution. He is responsible for any passengers riding with him, as well as other drivers on the road.

The night of the incident I called an 800 number and waited for over 40 minutes to talk to someone, even though the recording said there was only one call ahead of me. The day after the incident I called the bus station to report his tag number. They gave me a number to call (it was not toll-free). I waited on the phone to talk to somebody for 20 minutes and finally gave up.

Obviously Greyhound does not care about my complaint or about the behavior of its employees.

Anita of Worcester MA (7/13/04):
On July 8, 2004 I took a Greyhound bus from Boston to New York en route to Pittsburgh. A one hour delay in New York turned into a two-and-a-half hour delay. When I finally was allowed to get on the bus the air conditioning was not properly working and the restroom was dirty. I even saw a few roaches crawling on the back wall of bus and on the seat. I finally made it to Pittsburgh.

On my trip back to Boston on July 11 the Pittsburgh bus terminal had no air conditioning, and I had to wait in the ticket line for over 20 minutes. I had no other problems until I got to New York. Greyhound employees and drivers could use a course in customer relations. I was so afraid of how fast the driver was driving that I got off the bus in Worcester, Massachusetts instead of Boston. That was the trip from hell; I will never again ride a Greyhound bus.
