Susan of Chicago writes (10/28/02):
I took a Greyhound bus, Memphis to Chicago (8:15) twice, each on a Saturday night with the same driver. This driver nodded off several times before we got to Effingham, IL. The people on the front seats constantly talked to him to keep him awoke. I was awakened one of the times he swerved back into his proper lane. I joked with him in Effingham that he needed coffee. He said he didn't drink coffee.

On Saturday February 16 I encountered the same driver, joked with him that I hoped he had enough sleep. He said he doesn't fall asleep, that I must have him mixed up with someone else. His appearance is distinct enough. But I mentioned to him that he didn't drink coffee. That jogged his memory. When I got on the bus I told the people on the front seats about him, telling them to talk to him if they noticed him nodding off. The same thing happened again. He nodded off before Effingham. His voice was even more groggy than the first time in January.

This time I fought to stay awake from Effingham to Chicago and that's a long way. I called Greyhound to lodge a complaint about a week or two after the February trip. Of course they don't give feedback. Another bus driver who calls himself the Captain acknowledged that T. L. B.'s unsafe driving is well known and is even the topic on the internet. According to the Captain, T. L. B. is a trainer for drivers! If I ever saw this driver again, I would not get on his bus. I'd probably make such a fuss until no one else would either. I'd even contact the local media.
