Greyhound - Rude, Unhelpful Employees

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I was asked to appear at an art convention as a guest of honor and the closest town with a Greyhound stop was in McAlester, OK. Once we got there, we tried to arrange a ride with the people of the convention and the old grouch that ran the Sinclair gas station/Greyhound station did not want anybody hanging around her "precious" place. She complained every 15 to 30 minutes we were there, completely went off on us, causing scenes outside the gas station, totally embarrassing me and my assistant, all while trying to arrange a ride to get where we needed to go. We even purchased items from her station thinking that would calm her down, but nope. She was on the phone to somebody complaining that we were there and when I entered the station, she tried to be as nonchalant as possible with her conversation, but I could still hear her every word.

Finally, after finding someone that was willing to pick us up, we told the old woman that we had someone coming to get us and would be here in 30 minutes. All we needed was the address, which she readily gave us. I paid for my purchases and headed back outside to wait some more. Sure enough, right on the dot, the woman came out of the station and yelled at us getting all huffy and uppity at us and she ended up chasing us off the premises, causing another huge scene in front of other customers. We had to sit in an abandoned parking lot to wait for our ride to show up.

Upon leaving to go back home four days later, the old woman was there again and she still had that ** attitude about her. She must also be hard of hearing because I told her three times where we were going. Columbus, OH via Tulsa. Apparently, if you say "via Tulsa" it turns into something insulting to her because her next response was something you would hear a woman yell on her 28th day period. She practically yelled at the top of her lungs "all I need to know is your destination, where are you going?" and I said again, "Columbus Ohio". She finally got it and wrote it down on the tag for the luggage, but not before making me feel even less like a Greyhound customer and more like some sort of monster because I travel by bus. I sure as hell did not pay $179.00 to be treated the way she treated me, that's for ** sure!

I have honestly never been treated like this in my entire life and she definitely does not need to be a Greyhound bus stop if she's going to run Greyhound passengers off her property and treat them like crap the way she did. So if you ever have to stop in McAlester, OK, God forbid if you don't have a ride waiting right there and then the instant you step off the bus and heaven forbid if you don't arrive to take the bus out of McAlester the very instant the bus pulls up at that exact moment in time. Because of her behavior, she does not need to be a Greyhound terminal at all. This woman needs a serious attitude adjustment and I sincerely hope she pisses off the wrong person who can yank her from Greyhound altogether. I did not have a good experience here and I did not appreciate being treated like utter crap by this woman.

It makes me wonder how many other people she's pissed off before me. I was a paid customer of Greyhound and I deserved to be treated as such. I mean, if it's a Greyhound stop, shouldn't it be expected that people from Greyhound buses will tend to occupy the premises? So rather than going through Greyhound Lines Inc. to file a complaint (which will probably never be considered), I would post it here where my voice can be heard.

To date, I have not received any response from Greyhound regarding my complaint and request for a refund. My trip began with Greyhound in Portland, Oregon (bus #GLI 1443 - three wonderful drivers) to Los Angeles, then a transfer to bus #CRP 7523 (Americanos USA, LLF) to San Diego, CA. I traveled to Portland on Feb. 16th to visit my daughter and new grandson. I'm a 51-year old diabetic with high blood pressure. Once in Portland, I realized I'd forgotten my medicines (two Insulins, Lasinipril and Metformin) and was therefore forced to return home early (Feb. 18th). Within the first six hours of the bus ride, my legs from the knees down began to swell.

By the time we reached Los Angeles, my legs and feet were in such pain and so swollen I could barely walk or move them. When I arrived to transfer buses in LA, the driver was more than an hour late. Upon boarding, I needed to sit in the front passenger seat (opposite the driver) which had the most leg room. When I boarded the bus, the driver had two cases in the seat. I picked up the cases and moved them to the empty seat behind the driver. Several minutes later, the driver boarded the bus. He looked at me and yelled, "What the hell did you do with my stuff?" I pointed to the seat across from me where a lady had sat next to his cases. The driver responded with, "What the **!" The bus was full. Everybody on the bus got quiet.

I hadn't realized that the driver was still angry at me until we made our next stop. He exited the bus and spoke to one of the employees from the office. They both stood outside my window talking in Spanish and looking up at me. After a couple of minutes, the other employee got on the bus looked down at me and literally yelled, "If you got an extra seat, make sure you're sitting properly in the seat and have your belongings overhead so someone can sit next to you!" Then he exited the bus and the driver got on. While driving, the driver maintained pleasant laughter and conversation in Spanish with the lady seated behind him. At that point, I was very sick, having been without my medicines for two days. When there was a break in their conversation, I said, "Driver, how many stops before San Diego?" He didn't respond. I leaned forward and said, "Excuse me driver..." he interrupted by hollering out, "You be quiet and let me drive!" I stated, "I need to know because..." he again interrupted and said "I told you to be quiet and let me drive!"

I was trying to calculate how long it would take me to get home to my medicine. After that, the driver began driving recklessly, too fast for the rush hour conditions, ran two red lights, continually ran dangerously close to stopped vehicles and kept looking over at me throughout the remainder of the trip. I was truly scared to death. I sent a text to my daughter asking her to get Greyhound customer service #s for me so I could find out the itinerary for this trip. I called Greyhound customer service for Portland or San Diego and Los Angeles and received voicemail for all. We made a 2nd stop and the driver got off. I noticed the customer service office was closed, so when the driver got off, I stood up and asked the passengers if anyone knew how many more stops we had to make before arriving in San Diego? I told them I was sick and needed to know how long it would take to get home to my medicine. Several passengers offered very helpful information.

By the time we arrived in San Diego, I was bad off. However, I felt the need to find out who to file a complaint to. I walked up to the customer service window and started to ask the lady how to file, when the driver came up from behind me and literally pushed me aside and began to speak to the agent in Spanish. He was loud and angry. The agent looked upset. The driver spoke to her for about two minutes, (without the agent even speaking a word) then, as quickly as he came, the driver rushed away. At first, the agent was huffing and puffing and sounding annoyed while talking to me. But after the driver spoke to her, the agent's demeanor towards me obviously changed. She became very patient, peaceful and concerned. When my son arrived to pick me up, he drove me straight to the hospital where I was admitted and stayed for six days.

I'm not blaming the driver for my illness or hospitalization, but someone needs to address this driver's behavior. He was rude, ridiculous and unprofessional. Because of his anger management issues, he put his passengers and all those on the roadway around us in danger, was the cause of several unpleasant scenes for all the passengers on the bus and did not seem to care about how anyone felt about his awful language or yelling. It is easy to sweep a complaint under the carpet. However, my position and convictions are so strong about what happened to me and what the other passengers had to endure. I'm sending a copy of this email to the office of Consumer Affairs, District Attorney's Office, the BBB, San Diego Kusi Turko files and several other agencies. This kind of dangerous individual should not be in charge of peoples lives! If this driver was this bold with me, then I believe I'm definitely not his first victim and won't be his last!

I had three Greyhound drivers prior to the problem driver and they couldn't have been more courteous, respectful, friendly and professional. They each kept us updated on the itinerary (stops, timelines, breaks for dinner and restrooms, etc.), which kept me informed and calm. I am thankful for them because their job is stressful in every way, yet they took such great care of us! I do request follow up communication regarding this email notification.

I took a trip back to Las Vegas from Phoenix on March 14th. The bus driver harassed me all the way. He wanted my phone # and wanted to talk to me all night while I was trying to sleep. Then in Kingman stop at McDonald's, he asked me to have coffee with him. I told him I'm married and also don't drink coffee. He still insisted to get out the bus and sit with him while he drinks coffee. I said no. I rather stay on the bus. He gave me his card. I was scared. Then when we left there on the road, he kept talking to me, telling me to keep in touch with him. All other people on the bus knew what was going on. I was embarrassed. When we got to Las Vegas station, he asked for my # again. I told him I'm married. He made me very uncomfortable all that way.

I was traveling from Chicago, IL to Milwaukee, WI as I do every 2 weeks. Wednesday evening for the 7pm return to Milwaukee, I was first in line to load onto bus. The additional step up was not positioned correctly, so I moved it to be accessed in getting onto the bus. I am handicapped. The bus driver yelled that I could not use that and that it was why she did not have it positioned correctly (I have fallen before because of no step stool). I got on the bus, and she (the driver) has a paper plate on the handicapped seat to keep passengers off. I realized you cannot sit behind the driver because that is their storage seat.

Another passenger got on board and asked to be able to sit in that 1st seat by the door. She was told no; she was not allowing that. The lady had to maneuver her self with her cane elsewhere. This driver was very loud and obnoxious, telling passengers not to chew gum because she didn't want to hear them smack the gum and to "pull your pants up higher" because she didn't like sagging pants. But the young man had everything covered. She left passengers standing there, saying she was leaving and too bad. She proceeded to walk down the isle and yell her directions to everyone, constantly stating she would leave us on the highway regardless if she was not happy.

I ride the bus every other week to and from Chicago and Milwaukee. I have never had this kind of rudeness displayed. Many of the passengers were dissatisfied and yet scared because of the many threats that we would be put out on the highway. Why chance that encounter? As we were riding, the driver was having a loud conversation on her cell phone. Passengers just looked at each other. That was one of the rules which is well understood, but you should follow your own rules as well. All drivers give you the rules, and they are well understood. I have not been on a bus where there was any problem.

This particular bus driver had a gigantic chip on her shoulder or she was super insistent on showing her authority. I do not believe it was necessary nor precipitated by anyone of the passengers. She was on some authority kick and very nasty about the whole situation. You can get a whole lot more respect and conformity if you treat people decently. She definitely needed a class in dealing with the public. Perhaps, riding the Megabus would be more enjoyable.

I've called a day before and they told me to come change my ticket because I missed my bus, so I had to pay 15 dollars to change my ticket. The woman was so mean to me, I couldn't talk with her because she was so rude to only me. Why? I don't know. I've been getting the runaround since I started my trip from Norristown, PA to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I'm so upset. It's not fair the way I was treated. They messed my whole trip up and my tickets. I'm disappointed in Greyhound!

I was left at a Burger King in Chesapeake, Maryland after stopping. The driver is telling us 9:35 pm was departure time from rest stop. I was in line at Burger King. I was on my way out at 9:27 pm and seen the bus driving off. After 4 hrs, I was able to get on another bus, in which the driver was very disrespectful stating that I must have done something to get left. After letting him know I was associated with police and military, he let me on.

I called the Greyhound customer service and the only answer he could give me before I got on the bus was I needed to find a ride to Charlotte, NC and I asked him how I was supposed to do that when I was broke and used all my money for Greyhound. I want to be reimbursed for my terrible experience and sick of Greyhound employees putting blame on customer. I finally caught up to some guys that were with me on the bus that left me and numerous folks tried to stop the driver and let him know he was leaving me. His response was, "Oh well, we are running late," and other passengers let him know he was leaving earlier than the time he stated.

My daughter purchased a ticket on March 9 for departure on March 11 at 7:15PM from Southfield, MI to East Lansing, MI. When the bus #6093 arrived, the driver got out and stated, "I only have 5 seats left and if you give me $30, you may board". He also stated it's not his fault if Greyhound did not send enough buses to support the tickets they sold, that he was just the driver and he would board the bus how he saw fit. He refused to allow the people who were first in line and with tickets to get on the bus. He then refused the bribe money from African Americans in preference of whites. He was very rude, aggressive and argumentative. My daughter will miss a class in the morning and possibly, work.

On February 22, 2012, I took Greyhound bus for the first time in my life. I will never take one again. I had the worse travel experience. All the bus drivers had the worst attitude and so is the customer service. I spend $90.00 with my ticket. The worse part is that I slept in a 24-hour gas station to get the bus the next day because no one couldn't give me information about anything. I would like some money back for my issue. Thank you.

My son driver called to inform Greyhound that the bus would be delayed few minutes. My son and his family arrived at St. Louis at 6:46, and the other bus left at 6:40, after the driver asked them to wait. My two granddaughters, aged 1 and 4, are going to stay at Greyhound tunnel from 6:46PM to 9:00AM. That is unbelievable that they left all of your paying customers. The right thing to do was that Greyhound should've ordered a bus for your customers . The young lady named Angie, has a very nasty attitude with the customers.

For all those concerned, I am deeply sorry for scaring you this past week with my sudden disappearance that was in no way my attentions. I left spur of the moment Valentine's Day to go to West Virginia to attend my father's funeral without letting certain people know like I should have. Everything during this trip went horribly wrong.

My uncle Jerry Black was gracious enough to send me all he could toward my ticket and an organization called Saint Vincent went in the other half the ticket was $308 and was supposed to be round trip through Greyhound from Des Moines, Iowa to Huntington, West Virginia. Saint Vincent would not allow me to buy the ticket myself but assured me time and time again everything with the ticket was fine even though I had never heard of the places listed on the ticket. I even called Greyhound to verify that the ticket was right to Huntington, West Virginia and back to Des Moines, Iowa. I was told time and time again the ticket was correct.

Well, needless to say, it wasn't. I was sent many places I had never heard or been before and every time I would ask for assistance from a Greyhound service attendant, they acted angry and did not even look at the ticket. I explained my situation to one service worker about desperately needing to get to Huntington, West Virginia for my father's funeral, made the comment, "Well, at least he isn't going anywhere." I honestly wanted to knock her teeth out but just told her, "** you very much **," and went on to find someone else that might have been able to help me.

After begging for help and searching for hours, I finally called the one person that is able to talk me out of my mental dark place and confusion, Zack **. I gave him the number of the gas station/Greyhound station I was at. He called and spoke to the service worker and convinced him to let me on the bus so I could at least get to Chicago. I was told it was 7 miles to Huntington and could call a cab. I called 3 different cab companies and they wanted $300 to take me to Huntington. I only had $240 which Zack had given me to eat and get things I needed. I called several people I thought were my friends in Huntington, offered them money to come get me so I could make it to my father's funeral but no one could I heard excuse after excuse. Truth is they just didn't want to come the 7 miles to help me out.

Finally, my bus showed up and I thought everything was going to be fine. I was dropped off at a small bus station in the middle of nowhere at 6:30 am in the pouring rain, no shelter. The station supposed to open at 7:30am. It didn't open until 10:00. After talking with the service attendant, he explained Greyhound has screwed up on my ticket and there was nothing he could do. I could go no further unless I paid for another ticket round trip from Huntington to Des Moines, Iowa. I got so lucky. A nice bus driver heard the conversation and intervened saying, "We messed her ticket up, it's our fault so we cannot on good faith ask her to pay more money." He then invited me on his bus, took me to another Greyhound station and demanded I get a correct ticket home to Des Moines.

Yes, I missed my father's funeral. I didn't get to say goodbye but I know with all my heart my father knows how much I love him regardless to what my brother and others may think. I did my best but it wasn't good enough and for that, I will forever carry it around. I tried calling the Saint Vincent many times but have gotten no response. So I plan on calling tomorrow morning for answers and possibly getting my uncle Jerry ** money back. At this time, I have no plains of ever returning to West Virginia again. The friends I thought I had apparently, never existed. For those of you, who do not like this, feel free to delete me at this point and time I really do not care. Des Moines is my home. I may not have friends but at least I know honestly where they stand no lies, no fake using people. Thank you for your time and again I am sorry to have worried those who care.

I took a visiting European friend who is a missionary to the bus terminal. He wanted an Ameripass to travel to several places. The Ameripass is cheaper for Europeans than for Americans.

The first clerk knew nothing about them, and the second clerk said we could not receive the discount because the missionary was currently in the United States. When I asked for her boss she picked up the phone and said, "Will you come out here and tell this [expletive deleted] she can't have this damn pass?"

I waited almost 15 minutes and then Tammy (the manager) came out. She had an attitude right from the start. I tried to explain the situation, but she simply would not listen.

Finally we decided to pay the American price. When I gave her my debit card she asked for my ID which I did not have. She said we would have to get it, that she was canceling the sale and that we could come back later and stand in line. I asked to see her boss, and was told he was at lunch and that she might tell him I wanted to see him when he came back.

I told her I was not leaving until I talked to her manager so she called security. I explained the situation to the security guard and he told me he did not care. I told him I was not leaving until I talked to the manager. He decided I was trespassing, slapped handcuffs on me, and dragged me off to hold me against my will for over an hour until a police officer showed up.

When my friend (the visiting missionary) said he was going take pictures (with a digital camera), the security guard said, "Go right ahead I will take the damn thing away and destroy the film and the camera."

During the time I was held I was told that I had no rights on private property and that he was going to insist that charges be pressed against me. When the officer came he stated the situation should have never happened. He took the handcuffs off and threw them on the table. I was released, but unfortunately my friend still had to purchase a ticket from this group.

I will be contacting an attorney to file a lawsuit against Greyhound and the security company (Spear Security). I will also look into filing criminal charges against the individuals involved.

Jeanne should indeed sue Greyhound and the security company for false arrest.

In September my daughter took a trip on Greyhound. On her return trip she phoned to say that the bus would be 6 hours late (instead it was 10 hours). We called Greyhound multiple times for information and they were completely ignorant of everything (they had no idea where the bus even was). On top of that they gave out miss information. Greyhound claims that the drivers do not have to call in and the bus arrives when it arrives. The bus was suppose to come in at 9:55, then 3:00, finally it arrived @8:00. What was scary was that other drivers from the same area were coming in who had left later. I would think that the those who govern transportation might want to be made aware of these facts and the shoddy treatment of the public; especially during these times.

The consequences for my daughter was a horrific nightmare. For us it was waiting in a dark parking lot for 5 hours not knowing when she would arrive. The emotional pain of seeing one bus after another arriving and not being the one with your child. The frustration was extremely intense.

I took my very first bus trip. It will not be something I will ever do again. I was horrible. The greyhound employees were rude, hostile and prejudice against white people. I was cussed at, yelled at, embarrassed in front of other passengers. I was left behind off at a stop, etc. None of the persons I talked to would help me, they would give wrong information just to get rid of me. There were not friendly or smiling employees. I send a complaint email to greyhound but received no reply. This was my vacation. I thought I would take the bus and leave the driving to them like the advertisment states. I was upset and stressed both on the journey there and back. I wanted to turn in my return tickets and get a rent car and drive back but they would not let me. The buses were pretty full. They have the business if they would treat the customers right then maybe they could turn this company around. I have never, never encountered such rude people. If I ever talked to my customer like that I wouldn't have a job anymore.

On 8 July I was told that I could catch the 10pm bus to Akron OH. When I attempted to purchase the ticket I was told that I would have to wait until 6:25am the next day. I explained that I was disabled and was expected at the hospital in Ohio at 8am and was told tough. The bus was full and that either purchase a ticket for the 6:25 bus or get out of line. They offered no help with luggage when I asked if I could at least check it, I was told keep it with you or purchase a locker at $2 for 6hrs.

Due to this I was forced to sit in a drafty dirty bus terminal, on hard chairs causing me extreme pain, I wasn't able to get to the hospital until after 2pm and had to be given a pain shot, missed seeing my doctor, I am now in pain and forced to endure it as I need to see my pain doctor but because of the delay I can't see him and have to keep going to the ER for treatment. They also think that the stress may have caused me to have a mini-stroke and I've suffered 4 angina attacks due to the ordeal.

Bus 1817 was going from Florida to California. Every person that I saw or came in contact with that was an employee was rude and at every turn said, "If you don't like it call the police," and "If you don't like it call GreyHound," they could care less. But the most terrible was a driver from El Paso Tx, to Phoenix Az. When we finally got on the bus, his starting announcement was, "Everyone shut up and listen." He gave the rules, and said if we don't like them he will call the highway patrol and have us arrested, and throw our luggage in the trash.

He also proceeded to tell us the stories of the stabbings and accidents caused by passengers, and there were small children and ladies traveling alone, and he was so rude and mean he even stopped the bus once and told the children if they didn't shut up he would throw them off. I guess the worst was when he then proceeded to tell us that he is writing a book and we should all buy it because he is a great writer. When I wrote to Greyhound and told them the stories they said that I was making it all up and they have the best drivers.
