I was wondering about your rewards until today, when it became clear that it is nothing more than deceptive and misleading practice on the part of Toys R Us to reward loyal customers with useless gimmicks, and even as such, it is very hard to redeem (I taught my grandson about this, so the young generations might have an idea of the phony philosophy of some companies, a philosophy obviously stemming from the head of the company).
As a reward offer, I received an email on January 1st 2012 of a few options, discounts valid only for the next couple of weeks. As a practical/realistic matter, I would guess that 99.9% of Toys R Us customers spent what they had to before and up to Christmas, therefore offering a few more gimmicks is not an option. One could postpone buying, say a TV until after Christmas, but you cannot postpone Christmas presents to a child until the price drops! Among the few offers, there was some discount for Huggies diapers. One does not have to be a genius to figure that you cannot postpone buying Huggies either, when the necessity arises. Among the other offers (Victorious Tory Dolls, Comforter sets and Lamaze Toys), I opted to look into the $10 off of Imaginarium products, valid for the purchase of $25 or more.
I looked at the 16 possibilities offered for 8 year old kids, and this is when I concluded the deceptiveness of the practice. None of the offers cost more than $19.99, therefore one cannot meet the qualifying threshold amount, unless one buys 2-3 of the same junk. The manufacturers recommended age for many of the 16 products was 3-5 and up, but Toys R Us increase those age range to 8 (and up to 14 ), I guess, to apply to wider range of kids who might find those toys boring. Its called cheating in my book. The offers have zero educational or entertaining value, rather something that no one in sane mind would buy. I wonder what Mr.Storch, as a CEO, had in mind, when he put gimmick and dishonesty ahead of the principle of good practice, building up loyalty and retaining customers? For one, he certainly lost me.
