Toys R Us Warranty Guaranteed to Disappoint
Toys R Us Sold

Jennifer of Barrington, Il IL (06/26/08)
I purchased $600 in electric cars for my kids on the Toys R Us credit card with six months no interest program. I made a second transaction (a service agreement for one of the cars) about 15 minutes after the first transaction was completed and because of that second purchase, I cannot avoid paying interest on the second purchase until after the first item with deferred financing is paid off. I cannot stipulate that the second amount be paid first. I feel this is wrong.

I have accrued $1 in finance charges on the second $47 purchase. The card will be paid off today. The finance charges represent a 30% interest rate. I am reporting this because of principle. Toys R Us is a store where many parents might make poor decisions because of the look in their childs eyes. Some of those parents might really rue the day they made that purchase; believing that they thought did not need to come up with the full amount for 6 months. I feel that these facts are critical to the decision making process and they should be highlighted rather than burying them in fine print. It should be just as important and explained just as clearly as the no interest point.

Purchased an Intex pool 18x9x52 for $799.00 on 5/30/08 online. Saw on 6/23/08 that the sale price was $629.00.. Called them. Said they do not do price adjustment. Any store I have ever ever dealt with will do a price adjustment within 30 days of purchase. Did not find any info on their website regarding this. I want the price difference refunded to me, together with tax adjustment.

W. of South San Francisco CA (06/23/08)
My wife and I went to Toys R Us, in San Mateo, on 6/15/2008, and bought a few items. I didn't notice until a couple days later, when I was filing away the receipt, that they charged an item TWICE. So I went back to the store on Saturday, 6/21, explained and showed the receipt, and the first thing they asked was did you call in about this? I didn't, so she talked to the store manager on the side, and he didn't approve it. She came back and said that since I didn't call in, they couldn't refund it. I reasoned that it shouldn't matter if I called in or not, it's still an item charged twice.

So I asked to talk to the manager, who told me I should have called in earlier. I argued that it was only 6 days, and that their refund policy was 45 days from the date of purchase, as stated on the back of the receipt. No, he said. He cannot give out any refunds without any merchandise being returned, it is against store policy. I reminded him I was billed TWICE for ONE item, therefore I don't have an actual item to return, and I just want my money back. He said no, he can't offer any refund without merchandise to return, and that there was no 'proof' that I was double charged for one item, and rudely walked away. I know economic times are tough, but when you CHEAT customers, this is where a store loses their INTEGRITY.

I lost $12.99 + tax. This isn't a big amount, but I've learned my lesson and will check my receipts after EVERY STORE purchase. Toys R Us is scamming their customers! Check your receipts in the store, BEFORE you leave...

i purchased a tread mongoose bike in may from this store mentioned above when i arrived home i realized that the cashier charged me $12.00 for assembly of the bike, but i bought the bike off the rack already assembled. i would like to know how if possible can i gert my money back.

Rude people. There was plenty of help working but no one working. Very overcrowded at registers, only two people on cash registers on a Saturday. They both were backed up and called for help several times (5) to be exact. There were plenty of people walking around the store talking to each other, not doing any real work, so I know they had help. The people in front of me had an item without the correct price on it. Instead of a customer service rep going to get them another product with the correct price, the lady finally had to go and get one herself. Because no one would come to the front to help. Then the cashier was very rude to this couple.

When I got to the front she was rude to me as well. I had a previous career in retail (while I was in college) this is not the way you treat people. Then when I called the manager to complain, (I have never complained about any store in the past, I try to be understanding) the manager on duty was worse and then started trying to blame me the consumer. I asked for her district manager's number. She refused to get it from me. I then called what I guessed to be the district store in Greenville, SC. I got a very delightful lady on the phone very concerned. She took my number and said she would give it to the DM. She called me back and said he would give me a call Tuesday. I was fine by this, but I never got a call from the DM either.

It appears they have major problems in this region and it starts at the top. No wonder many parents are shopping online and at other stores. Toys R Us is the only Toy Store in Anderson now. So they have a type of Monopoly here. One can drive 30 minutes to Greenville but many just deal with this. Not very fair to consumers.

I really don't need legal remedy but I would like consumers to know about how the supposed family friendly store is not very family friendly. Also there website has no place to file complaints.

pricing above ground pools with daughter tuesday 5-27-08. intex pool advertised for 799.00 at that time. called sunday 6-1-08 to check to see if poll was still in stock at store and still on sale for 799.00, original price was 899.00 talked to two different people on phone. first one said let me get someone that knows more about that. the second gentleman told me there was one left in store if i picked it up today it would still be 799.00. asked if the store would hold the pool under my name.

Our family borrowed a truck to haul pool home. We drove 50miles to store. when we got to store an employee called the manager to store desk where i was told we have that poll in stock but the price is 899.00 do you want it or not? i explained that i had called this very store and talked with a gentlman who told me it was still on sale for 799.00. we made special trip to pick it up and wouldn't have come down if I had been told it was more money. she told me well that's hat it is do you want the poll or not. I told her i did not.

I have been a faithful toysrus shopper with birthdays and holidays for my chldren, grandchildren and friends. I asked her name and left the store. I am terribly disappointed in the callous way we were treated. my daughter worked at that very store and she said someone should have called the manager at home as it was on a sunday. I no longer feel I can shop at that store given the way we were treated. As my family left a lady met me outside the doors of toysrus and told me she had been treated the same way by the same woman.

Barbara of Alvin TX (03/03/08)
I went into the store at Baybrook Mall in Webster on Saturday (3/1/08) to purchase some little plastic balls for my son's ball pit. While in the store I saw that they had a buy one, get the other half off, sale and decided to purchase a couple of short sets for my son. When I got to the register the item rang up full price, and I told the salesgirl that it was on sale. She said that she didn't think so, but she grudgingly called for a price check. The boy who came to check also said that the sale was over, but I told him that no there is a big sign advertising the sale. He went and checked and brought back the sign and did show me where the date of the sale ended several days before. I felt like since the sign was still up (and they had plenty of time to remove it before Saturday), that they should have honored the sales price. However, he couldn't have cared less, and when I complained to the customer service person all I got was a shrug and a very snippy sorry.

The Toys-R-Us at Baybrook Mall in Webster is just awful. They are constantly out of stock, no one ever offers to help, and Heaven forbid you actually ask someone at customer service to do something crazy like look in the computer for an item.

There were no economic or physical damages. I just didn't purchase the items there. Instead I went to the Carter store and bought summer clothes from them. I absolutely can't stand Toys-R-Us, and I think I will start ordering my things online from any other toy store but them. One interesting thing I picked up from the Toys-R-Us website is that the CEO of Toys-R-Us, Mr. Storch, came from Target. Apparently he was Vice Chairman of Target Corporation in charge of strategy. Target's another store I don't shop at due to their horrible customer service and disgusting return policy.

Zoom of Round Rock TX (01/02/08)
Today I found Leapster from Toys R Us online for $49.99. I made a b-line drive to Toys R Us in Austin Texas. There were only two units left and a handful of games with it. I took one to the counter and it rang up as $59.99. I told the cashier that the online Toys R Us has these for $49.99 and would like to be offered that same price. I was told that they do not do price matching. I asked the cashier that I am not asking for a 'price matching', but rather I would like for them to honor their internet prices. I was sent to a store manager, who said the same thing.

Ultimately, I did not purchase the product and left the store. Never buying anything from Toys R Us again.

Lori of Austin TX (12/19/07)
I ordered 3 things with two day shipping. The website said all were available. At the end of the ordering process, after my confirmation, a screen appeared saying TWO of the things I was ordering were not available and they would contact me when the items are available. Then, they charged me the same shipping charge on just one of the items. Ridiculous.

I ended up spending way more on shipping than I intended and would not have bought the item from them had I known.

Jorge of New York NY (12/03/07)
They had a Black Friday Early Bird Special printed on their flier for a Zune 30 GB for $80. I was there an hour before they opened the store that early morning and waited again in line inside the store to get into the electronics for 5 minutes when their staff announced that the item is sold out. I find their ads false and deceptive. Toy's R US should be penalize for such false advertisement.

Danette of Bedford VA (11/19/07)
Toys R Us had an advertisement that stated 50% off all items in the store on 11-16-2007 and 11-17-2007. I had even called to confirm, and they were very reluctant to say. Then when my husband went to purchase there was no sales like that. When I called back and spoke to a manager she said that they had had a bogus ad run on the radio and that they never would have a sale like that. I consider this false advertising. I believe this has happened before. Let me know.

Wendy of Lexington IL (05/04/06)
Twice in 1 week Toys R Us has told me they have something that they really don't have. First I called to see if they had a sand table in stock and was told they did. I made a special trip into town to have it for the weekend. I paid and waited outside for them to load it in the car and was then told they didn't have any. Two days ago I called to see if they had a swingset in stock and was told they did and would put it on hold for me. I said we'd be in Thursday evening (tonight). We went Thursday evening and paid for it.

After 20 minutes we were told they sold it to someone else! They had another one on the truck but couldn't get to it yet and we could come back tomorrow afternoon. She called me tonight, 20 minutes before closing time, to say they found it and we could pick it up now. We'll see if it's still there when we go back tomorrow! I understand inventory mix ups sometimes, but twice in 1 week! We've wasted a lot of valuable time and gas in an attempt to buy relatively large items from them. The workers are polite, but the store or the entire company has some problems!

Emil of Miami FL (05/04/06)
I went to ToysRUs to buy an Xbox 360 for my family. This video game has been very hard to find because of its huge demand. I was a excited and little surprised to find it at ToysRUs. Inside the store they promote the game and the prices ($299 for the basic console and $399 for the advanced one). To purchase either version of the product, one has to pick a paper ticket available besides the Xbox360 stand and bring it to the cashier. I took the $399 ticket to the cashier. She went to get the actual box and right at the check-out she told me, in Spanish: I can't sell this to you unless to buy an additional controller and 2 games. These have an additional value of aprox. $160. I asked to speak to the manager and the cashier called her.

When the manager came I told her that I already had games and additional controllers and only wanted to purchase the new console. She told me that my games wouldn't work with the new console.. which is false since one of the main advantages of the most expensive console is precisely that you can use it with your old games. I then complained and told her it was an abuse since there's no sign of having to buy a $600 bundle inside the whole store... just the $399 price. I told her I would report it and she told me whatever, that's just the way this is, it comes from above. ToysRUs is just adopting an abusing attitude based on the fact that there's big demand for this product... but forcing people at the cashier, without any previous notice, to spend more money (on an already expensive one) is too much.

The consequences are only moral. It took me an hour, between checking the prices, getting in line, asking for the product, finding out about their abusive policy, waiting for the manager, explaining my dissapointment and finally, having to leave with my daughter empty handed without a good answer for her.

Jim of Auburn NY (02/02/06)
The store is going out of business, everything is 30-50% off, I noticed a WWE real sound arena playset listed for $7.00. When I went to purchase said item, the cashier rang it up in the 25-30 dollar range, I said No way, look at the sign. I then showed the yellow card that said 7 dollars, they said that was the price for baby strollers, but I quickly pointed out that it said the words real sounds arena on the yellow card, they talked via walkie-talkie to April the manager who refused to even come out and talk to me, and refused to sell the product for the $7 price, two friends pointed out that this was illegal, they simply ignored them and threw away the yellow $7 sign. Earlier, my friend had asked if he could buy the X-Box console that was on display, they said it was not for sale despite the fact that the signs all over the store say Everything must go! No exceptions.

I have purchased many items from this Toys R Us location over the years, and I can say with confidence I will never return after the way I was treated, and the shady way the situation was handled, it saddens me to see the store close and to have my last visit there leave such a sour taste in my mouth.

Pamela of Ona WV (01/11/06)
I purchased $146.00 in merchandise at the store because according to the ad, I would get $10 off my purchases (which would make them about the same price as the local WalMart when not on sale). I was so annoyed at the mismarked prices on items that were actually higher than the shelves said that I bought less than I had originally planned to buy. When I checked out, instead of my $10 discount, I was handed a gift card. I was surprised but pocketed the card and left. I put the card in my daughter's Christmas stocking thinking I'd use it to help buy an additional cartridge for her Leapster.

Christmas came, and we were in Florida, so I put the card in my purse and forgot about it until yesterday. I went to Toys R Us to get the cartridge and was told that the Gift Card was expired. The manager told me there wasn't anything he could do. Gee, I didn't get my $10 discount as advertised and the $10 Gift Card was useless. I emailed the corporate office listed online. So far I have heard nothing. Oh well, I know that from now on, I'll go straight to Walmart.

Nicole of Los Angeles (11/3/05):
While browsing in the clothing department, a pair of jeans caught my eye. The jeans were displayed on two different sale racks. They also had the coordinating pieces, but I only noted a sale price on the jacket, not the jeans or the blouse. I took all three items up to the customer service counter to inquire about the price.

The clerk scanned the items and they came up regular price. Since I had informed him that they were merchandised on a sale rack he called for a manager. Raileen Rasle arrived and asked my problem. When I expalined the situation to her she said "let me see." I walked her to the area where I had found the clothing on sale. She saw the signs and immeidately removed them. Telling me that those items were on sale last week. (It was already wednesday of the new week.)

She said, "I forgot to take these down." As if that should suffice for me. I told her how unfortunate that the signs were not removed, but that I would like them honored. She then went into this long spiel about how could she honor the sale price when no price is posted. I told her sale is posted, honor the price from last week. That is not possible she says in order for her to give me a sale price I have to see a price. I asked her could she place sale signs all over the store and then tell people nothing is on sale because they don't see a price. That would be absurd.

I was exteremely angry when I left the store. I didn't appreciate being given the run around especially when I knew they were incorrect and refusing to remedy the problem.

Phoebe of Houston TX (8/29/05):
I went into Toys R Us at approximately 3:45pm. I tried to purchase two shirts, 1 Nike, 1 Addidas and one pair of Adiddas shorts. The Addidas outfit was buy one get one 50% off and the Nike shirt was just supposed to be on sale.

I went up to the counter to purchase the clothing and was not given the sale price for the clothing. I then walked to the back with the Manager Erik to show him the signs. He then stated that the Nike shirt was not on sale. I told him that he would have to honor what the signs says. He stated the shirt was on sale but it was still ringing up $10.99 which was the original price.

I stated to him that I was not being given a sale if the shirt is still ringing up $10.99. He then stated if I didn't want the clothing then I did not have to buy them. I then went to the back and took pictures of the signs, clothing tag prices and the clothing that I wanted to purchase.

I'm not satisifed with the service that was rendered by Toys R Us nor the Manager. He was very rude, he didn't show as if he cares about his customers that pays his salary and I feel as if I was discriminated against.

Byron of Midland TX (3/8/05):
We were at our local ToysRUs today, 3/8/05 at 8:24pm. We were checked out by Tanta. We were in the store shopping for our 3 yr old birthday girl. There was a sign on the bin stating the stuffed animals in the bin were $29.99, reg $49.99. All the stuffed animals in the bin were huge. So, of course we assumed the black/white stuffed dog our 3-yr-old got attached to was the same $29.99 as the tag showed regular price of $49.99. There are sales going on all over.

My husband checks out and I look at the receipt in the van. I go back in and ask the sales clerk about the price when the bin clearly states $29.99. Tanta said the black/white dogs were in the wrong bin. Why the black/white dog, which was the same size as the other animals in the bin, was a different price, we don't understand. Anyway, by this time there is no getting the animal away from our 3-yr-old. We would never have encouraged our child on a $50 stuffed animal.

Misrepresentation and neglect -- malicious? It's a way for a person to go ahead and buy an overpriced stuffed animal! Where are the days when a store is held to the price it represents?

Margie of Houston TX (1/8/05):
I went to the Toys R Us to purchase a bike for my five year old grandson. We looked at several bikes. We picked a bike out, my grandson rode the bike around in the store and loved it. I told the salesman that I wanted this particular bike. He told me the bike would cost $39.99 and I said "okay".

The salesman went to get the bike but came back to me and told me that they did not have this bike in stock. He said that I could purchase the show room bike which was already assembled. He then told me that I had to pay an additional $10.00 because the bike was already put togeather. I do not understand why I had to pay $10.00 extra for something that was already put togeather. I told my grandson to get off the bike, that we could not get it.

My grandson became upset and was crying, so I got the bike for him and paid the additional $10.00 even though I felt it was not right. The salesman was very sorry about the incident. He talked to Manger (Sheila) on duty who told him that we had to pay the additional $10.00. I feel that I was treated unfairly, this was not very professional of them.

Susan of Houstson (10/28/03):
Toys R Us ran a coupon in their sale paper 2 weeks ago. The coupon was for Little Tykes Toys. The coupon read that if you purchased a Little Tykes toy totalling $19.99 or more you would receive a free Little Tykes toy up to the amount of $19.99. There was no expiration date on the coupon. I went to the store to purchase the items and was told by the manager that the coupon was not valid except for the week that the ad was run. Nowhere on this coupon did it say that the offer was available on certain dates. Had I known that I would have used it immediately. I feel that coupon was misleading.

Patricia of Charleston WV (10/14/03):
On Oct. 13 I purchased 14 Swan Lake Kelly Dolls. I had a coupon that read all Swan Lake Dolls under 19.99 -- buy one get one free. They also have this ad on the shelf under the Kelly Dolls. At the checkout I was told this did not appy to Kelly Dolls. Why?

Theresas of Staten Island NY (5/8/03):
I purchased a bicycle on May 7, 2003. The price was $119.00 with a 10% discount and of course sales tax. The salesperson then indicated I needed to take the floor sample because that what all they had left. I said no problem as long as it was not damaged, which it was not.

The salesperson then informed me I needed to pay an additional $12.00 for an assembly charge. Why is it I need to pay a charge for something that was already assembled. Given the choice I would have had it assembled through them but they did not give me the choice and told me I HAD TO PAY IT.

Shelly of Monroeville PA (3/18/03):
I was searching for a bike for my son's 9th birthday. I went to ToysRUs.com to see what was available. I found a bicycle that was regularly $99.99 that was on sale for $49.98. I wanted to avoid the $40.00 shipping charge so I went to our local Toys R Us to purchase the bike there.

I was told by the manager that I was not able to purchase the bike for the internet price. She went on to explain the Toys R Us on the web and the store were two different entities. It was really amazon.com. Really? Because I typed in Toys R Us and it took me to that site? She told me I would be able to purchase the bike but, she would have to charge me shipping. Shipping?? She wasn't shipping it anywhere, I was there to pick it up!

I then told her NOWHERE on the internet site did it state that this was an 'internet special only' or that it was 'not available in stores'. The advertisement was on THEIR site and they should honor it. She then called a customer service manager who went on to explain to me that they do not price match internet sales.

I told him this was not price matching this was their company advertising this product on their site, period!! He told me he would not be able to help me but would forward my suggestion to the appropriate parties. On March 18, 03 I received a call from Milton from customer service. I explained to him the situation, standing by the fact that nowhere on the site was there a disclaimer stating it was not available to purchase in stores. He answered saying from now on it will be posted on the website 'internet sales only'.

That really doesn't help me today. I feel they should honor the sale that is posted on their web page or state otherwise. I am very upset about this matter and feel it is false advertisement.

Raymond of Valley Cottage, NY, writes about the Toys 'R Us store in Manuet, NY:
This store and probably all stores in NY and NJ are charging sales tax illegally for periodicals (i.e. Beckett Monthly sports magazines). Manager said that the reason is that they sell toys not magazines and toys are taxable. If I didn't like it, I didn't have to buy it. Could a supermarket claim that corn on the cob is a napkin because one could wipe his hands on the husk and thereby make it a taxable item? I think not. Blatantly against the sales tax laws of the state.
