Spine Tingler Bicycle

Mike of St. Joseph, IL writes:
My 6-year-old son was riding his small bike, the "Spine Tingler". Then all of a sudden the seat came dislodged from the post. The post on most bikes is simply a metal "pipe", smooth on both ends. However, this model was "pinched" at the top -- basically a 3-sided "spear", almost knife-like sharp.

The end was simply "jammed" into the molded plastic seat. When the seat came off, my son basically had a "spear" for a seat. He became scared because he tried to sit and was nearly impaled. He wrecked the bike because he could not stop.

I called the company and they said: "Oh, do you need a new seat?"

My son suffered several large scratches and scrapes from the seat post and from the wreck. He was very scared to ride again. We bought a new bike, but he really dosen't want to ride that much.

We've referred Mike to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which may want to look into this.
