Phyllis of Fairfax, VA, writes:
They stated that my credit information was out on the Internet along with SSN address/telephone number. If I would give them the expiration date on the card, they would clear my info off the Internet. Stupidly, I gave them the exp date. Then they wanted the credit card number. Then they said it would cost no more than $289 billed monthly or whatever my credit card company allowed.

Then I had to answer some yes/no questions. Then they would mail me a packet including a form for me to sign and return to them. At that time my name and information would be removed from the Internet and all mailing lists and telephone solicitation lists. I hung up and called my credit card company and cancelled that card. I'm not all sure this is a legitimate company -- how can I tell if this was a scam? At least I have cancelled that card, so they shouldn't get anywhere with that information.

Nothing serious. Just concerned that I almost gave away information I shouldn't have. Is there any possibility that since I spoke with them on the phone, they could insist I pay the $289.00?

Phyllis did the right thing cancelling her card, though she did the wrong thing giving these characters her personal information in the first place. There is no company we know of that can do what this company claims it does. This sounds like a variant of the Security Providers scam that targets older persons.
