We have received hundreds of complaints about this company, in addition to the small sample shown below. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has been hearing the same complaints and took action against the company in May 2008. Read the company's response here. Cindy of Scottsdale, AZ July 8, 2009 Like all the other complaints about them....there was never full disclosure of costs, I did not agree to anything and then I get a bill for 897.00!! They tell me they have me on tape. Then they will only having me say I UNDERSTAND their monthly payment, not that I agreed to it! I have filed complaints with both the BBB and FTC. And this company tells you that they have very, very low complaints.... BBB has them with over 400 complaints in the last 36 months. I would say that is alot!!! I have called and written to this company to complain, but have heard nothing from them!! So much for customer satisfaction.... Jeremy of Prattville, AL July 2, 2009 Our complaint is very similar if not exactly like everyone else on here. However, I would like to bring some light into the problem. I called Publishers Business Services (PBS) on June 30, 2009 and spoke with a very rude male in the billing department. I asked to cancel our account and his reply was that it was not possible and we owed PBS over 550 for the subscription. He then brought the amount down to 220, then 210, then 149,50, and finally to 110. I still refused to pay. He continued to yell at me over the phone, and I hung up. I contacted the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and filed a complaint. The FTC already has a federal lawsuit against PBS. My wife then emailed PBS' Customer Service department, requesting to cancel the account and that a complaint was filed with the FTC. Today, July 2, 2009, she recieved an email back from PBS Customer Service stating our account has been cancelled and we would not be billed for any future months and our magazines would be shipped through the end of this year. I highly recommend you make contact with Customer Service and NOT the Billing Department. Prior to hearing back from PBS Customer Service we did cancel the credit card that PBS had on file so they could not charge our card the 29.90/month. I recommend you do the same and this too will ensure they no longer charge your card. Lucia of san jose, CA June 26, 2009 they called me at work...I am an asst mgr and busy...they got my info after a survey...that i would get free magazines on their behalf...then i got a bill for 79.00...I'm very angry because its been 2 years...I'm sure they have gotten over 300 from me...I don't know what to do because they say they have recorded me and that for me to cancel I must pay the rest.I don't want the magazines...I've never payed so much for a magagazine. Jeremy of Greeley, CO June 8, 2009 I agred to the service but said i wanted to review on paper first. now they are threating to send me to the local credit bureau Meghan of Argos, IN May 31, 2009 Publishers Business Service called my place of employment and told me if I completed a survey I would receive free magazines, and be eligible for more discounts. I did the survey that verified my address and phone, and other information, soon after I received a bill in the mail stating that I aggreed to pay 29.90 monthly for 29 months. Nearly 900.00 in billing, for magazines I never even heard of, much less ordered. I was fortunate enough to only be 18 years old, therefore; I haven't gotten any credit cards or checking account information that was given to the company. I will follow up with a letter mailed certified to the billing address that was sent with the bill. Is theere anything else I could do? Kelly of Alexandria, VA April 28, 2009 No need to further explain what everyone else has explained and experienced. I know I did not give them any more information than my name and my address (which I am renting so it isn't even my legal address). I am ignoring their calls from now on and have filed a complaint with the FTC. I would advise you to do the same, as they are in a suit with them currently. Brenda Butterfield of Niagara, WI April 23, 2009 I was contacted at my place of employment FEb, 09. I was asked to take a survey for free magazines, the first person I spoke to didn,t speak english very well so I could hardly understand what he was asking plus i was trying to take care of my residents needs so I agreed to the subscription.Later I was again contacted at work and ask for my banking information because i owed the company 700.00, not thinking i agreed for them to take money out of my account. So they did I never recieved a invoice before they started withdrawing money from my account. several times they have called my work and harassed me about payments, i informed that i didnt want their magazines because i would be able to afford them because i was going to be moving and would not have a job. so when the magazines came my boss sent them back. Yesterday on 4-22-09, i was agin contacted at work and spoke to this representive who then told that they where going to file a civil complaint on me for their money and a insuffient funds check, so i got very upset and didn't say very nice thing to her. is there any thing that can be done about the harrassment and this companies practices. as a result of the harrassment my boss has told me she is going to have to let me go, if they dont quit calling.plus it has caused alot of stress on me worring about a civil judgement and paying. Taylor of Sugar Land, TX April 23, 2009 I received a call at work, and was asked to take a survey. I did, and they got some contact information from me, and I began receiving magazines that I never asked for. Then, after the magazines started coming, bills started coming in and harrassing phone calls. I have answered some of these calls and told the people that I am not interested in receiving magazines anymore. They said that in order to stop the magazines I was going to have to at least pay a little bit of the balance. I agreed to pay 10.00 on what I owed so they would stop calling and sending the magazines. Well, I got my bsnk statement and they had actually charged over twice the agreed amount onto my account, and continued to charge until I overdrew. Then called asking for an alternate card. I refused and repeatedly told them to stop billing me that I wasn't going to pay for it. They told me they were going to report me to a collection agency and I told them to go ahead, but that I wasn't going to pay. They still call me, but I moved recently and the magazines and bills are being sent to my former address. I overdrew my bank account, incurring fees, plus they scammed me out of over 20.
