Direct Sales International to Pay $7 Million
Negative Option Marketing: When No Means Yes

Vickie of Bath, NY, writes:
I had a solicitation call to receive so many magazines at a discounted price. I thought at the time it was a pretty good selection so I ordered. The way the phone conversation went it was only supposed to be for one year. WRONG. For three months it was deducted from my checking account. I called asking how many more payments I had to make or how much more did I owe. They said that I owed over $500.

I couldn't believe it and I questioned it and she explained to me that it was for a five-year membership. I asked if I could get out of it and there was no way out. That was two years ago. Right now I am three months behind and I was getting about 10 calls a day. I finally took the calls and explained to them that I am on disability and can't pay, can we work out something. The lady explained that if I make at least one payment she will hold it off for a month.

So I paid one month's payment, the next week I got the same call from a guy. Boy did I let him have it! Supposedly they will put it off until the end of April but I will be another month behind. The next day I get a call from a renewal service that works for Magazine Source to extend my magazines another year. I said NO thanks and don't ever call here again-remove my name from your call back list. I now, as of today still owe them $240.00 to pay them off. And for every month that I am behind they charge my account $1.00.

I got a caller ID box and if it comes up unavailable I do not answer the phone. I hate even hearing the phone ring. Sometimes I just ignore it. If I answer and it is a sales call I hang up immediately. Or I end up getting rude with the caller. I am so sick of solictiation calls!
