The
Better Business Bureau recently reported what appear to be fraudulent
calls seeking personal financial information.
Typically,
the callers targeted women and claimed they were calling about
"your husband's credit card" payments, which they
claimed were overdue.
The
caller would then ask the wife to verify her husband's Social
Security number and, if successful, would go on to seek other
confidential information, including credit card and bank account
numbers.
If
a caller requests this kind of information from you, you should
immediately hang up. If you have already furnished such
information to a caller, you should immediately notify local
police and report the incident to local consumer agencies
and ConsumerAffairs.Com.
