How to spot a scam

Donna of Saint Joseph, MO (8/2/05)

I got a letter saying that I was one of the winners of the European International Lotto program. The letter say that participants were selected through a computer ballot system drawn from 257,000 names and addresses of individuals who previously signed up for North American Sweepstakes.

It says that my ticket number emerged as a “third category” winning ticket in the lump sum pay out of $1,00,000.00 cash. (My part of the total prize of $120,000,000.00 shared among the international winners in the third category).

They have secured a financial sponsor to assist with the required amount I need to pay for the insurance and stamp duty (saving me the trouble of trying to source for the amount). This loan is for those who cannot afford to pay the required charges. If I am able to afford the required charges, I am to send a check (a percentage surcharge) they enclosed to a listed address. The check, a “cashiers check” from the Cornerstone Bank of Springfield, is in the amount of $4,100.00.

As soon as these fees are paid, my $1,100,000.00 certified check issued by Westminister Bank of Switzerland will be sent via over night mail to my address. I am instructed to call my claims coordinator to assist me in finalizing the payment process.

It says that if this process is not completed before August 15, 2005, they will assume/consider this fund as unclaimed and automatically void it.
