Andros, Incorporated appears to be Equinox reborn. The president of Adros, Jim Putnam, as well as several founders are x-Equinox players.
I experienced the Equinox story with Andros. I answered an ad in the Richmond Times for management at a new office. I arrived at a crowded room where there was no intimate interview, rather a sales pitch with people planted in the crowd to keep up the energy.
Long and short, I purchased 5K worth of products and $399 for an e-commerce web site which was marketed to me as producing commissions when people purchased through my "online mall" and that I could check the "back end" of the site to get stats on sales. it took over 3 weeks for my site to be up and when it was I noticed there is absolutely no tracking on the "mall" portion of the Website and that there would be no commissions.
Mr Putnam himself has said that Andros has relationships with hundreds of companies on the Website and commission rates had been negotiated. These rates have yet to be disclosed to any representatives. The company does not answer my questions regarding the functionality of the Webster. If I had known there was no tracking I would not have purchased the Website.
To make things worse a "founder" is working out of the Richmond office (Bwana Thurman, also from Equinox). He is there to support and train us. He has indicated to me that he will not discuss my success or plans for me until I bring him my "warm market" list, a list of my friends and family they can try to enlist into the business. Frankly I don't want my friends mad at me so I won't give the list and I now receive no help.
We (reps) are practically FORCED to pay for and attend company trainings (pep rallies designed to keep us "in") no matter where they are in the country. The contract/application I signed said there was no requirement to pay "desk rent" however, we are being charged $400 for desks by the local office (Environet) and we have to pay for our own phone lines and we must place (company approved) ads in the newspaper.
I've read much about the Equinox shutdown and I have to tell you Andros seems like the same company right down to the water filtration, cleaning products and weight loss products ... the products are focused on just long enough to say they have mentioned them. It has been made clear that the real focus of the business (and where the money is made) is through the recruiting.
