Scott of Lawrence KS (11/14/07) I had taken Vioxx for the first surgery of its kind starting Febr.7th,2002. I took the whole prescription as directed. It made me feel less pain but severly uncomfortable. I asked the Dr. for a different drug when I was in the patient room for the next nessecary surgery, before he started. He exclaimed there was no alternative and I was blocked from getting out of the patient chair by his assistant. I felt intimidated into not getting out of the chair and his office because I won't push a woman. He ignored my question by not answering satisfactorily if my regular meds would not be compatible with his Vioxx.
He was skilled as an Orthodontist but I believe he had not read up on my two then prescriptions. That surgery was on a Monday and I had severe head pain on the coming Saturday. I was able to bite my teeth together to avoid a stroke, but I suffered from very bad aftershocks. I was very stunned and unaware afterwards. Dr. Fulbright from Lawrence Memorial Hospital South wing was able to diagnose an anyeurism when I finally thought I should ask for help. I told him Vioxx was what I had been taking at that time pain occurred. I was worried about taking too much on but decided I should do as suggested and felt safe enough to have Magnetic Resonance Imaging pictures of my head taken as Dr. Fullbright said.
I was delayed in going back to college for my automotive career until early 2007. I found it hard to talk like before the aneyurism and had stammering problems and speech/language with poor focus and impaired memory problems. I have suffered socially and have family problems as a result. I take good care of myself and was only thirty five during the anyeurism. I was athletic and have had two chest illnesses and been in the hospital ER due to the poor concentration then which has somewhat improved under my Doctor's care.
William of West Newton MA (11/28/06) I took Vioxx. Because I did not know what a stroke was in 2001, I didn't go to the hospital. That prevented me from joining the class action suit. Since then I've had at least two TIAs and another stroke, and have had to take five additional drugs to counteract what Vioxx did to me.
James of Colorado Springs (1/26/05):
Father died from taking their Vioxx product. Company knew about dangers of drug, but covered it up to make more profit. Company showed reckless disregard for others lives. As a result, I lost my father of 52 years.
No money would replace my father. A friend also lost her husband to the same fate.
Edward of Brunswick GA (11/15/04):
I was prescribed Vioxx for over 2 years after a rotator cuff surgery. I developed diverticulitus as diagnosed by Emergency Room Doctor, who said the direct cause of my illness was taking Vioxx.
I still have the diverticulitus and sometimes chest pains and dizziness.
Denise of Omaha (10/11/04):
I took Vioxx for about 2 years and now very concerned with my future health. At this point I have occasional chest pains and heart beat skips once in a while.
Gerard of Donegal PA (12/7/04):
I returned unused Vioxx with the receipt. I have insurance, I pay for my own insurance. Merck only returned my copay and half of the postage. I called to see if the rest of the money was sent to the insurance provider, I was told that they would have to file seperately
Betty of West Pittston PA (11/14/04):
I have tried to receive my refund of $90.00 and was unsucessful. Express Scripts where I had got the Vioxx told me I must send back the medicine to Merck. It is about 3 weeks now. I tried to talk to a live operator but they only have a recording. I am a senior citizen and really need this money back.
