Botox

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

In January 2007, I received upon request injections of Botox for brow wrinkles. No problems after then. In May 2007, I received a second Botox injections in the brow area because the smoothing effects had dissipated. Then 5 to 6 days later, I began to have progressive loss of lower extremity muscle strength that became so disabling requiring assistance to get up from a sitting position. Progressive along with that, I experienced the sensation of needing to enhance my respiratory muscles for breathing, but not a true feeling of dyspnea or shortness of breath. From the months of June and July, I used a walking stick for support and finally by Mid-August of 2007, I could motivate on my own.

Prior to that, I had been an avid Elk hunter in Colorado at 8,000 to 9,000 ft. After this injury, I gave that up. I still have an estimate of 25% reduction in strength that limits my distance when walking and especially climbing stairs. I have had cardiovascular evaluations with no CV causes identified. I continue to have some problems negotiating over rough terrain and cannot walk as fast as others my age.

I consider myself to have been in good physical condition at the time of the injury since I was working out at a local gym 3 times a week. I advise anyone who wants Botox to be aware of the potentially serious side effects. I did not appreciate the M.D. who gave me the injections denying that the injury had no relationship to Botox when I informed him of my problem. He suggested a neurological evaluation which I did not choose using my own medical judgment to guide me.

I had bad reactions from Botox injections in 2000-2001. I received Botox injections from a Neurologist and the side-effects were phenomenal. I had experienced muscle spasms in my left shoulder, lazy eye syndrome on my right eye, and severe neck pain. This information is documented at this office because I went back a few days later and complained about these complications. I just read an email about Botox settlements that occurred and I thought I would give my story.

My son suffered an injury leaving him with a traumatic brain injury. He was wheelchair-bound needing complete and total care. He was also classified as having cerebral palsy after the accident. Which he received botox injection for many years. I then heard about the baclophen pump giving him botox on a regular basis in which he had it put in 2007.

In April of 2008, he had an increase of botox. And in May of 2008 he became ill and came down with a serious respiratory infection and passed away in his sleep. Death certificate stated he suffocated himself. The loss of my son. It has completely changed our lives and now in 2010 I just found out about the deaths to young children receiving botox. I would want the public to be notified more on the dangers of the drug.

I was given around 15 different injections at multiple sites; my left wrist, my neck and my lower back. The doctor said it would help with the spasticity and dystonia left from a stroke i suffered while being treated surgically for a mitral valve prolapse.

The stroke occurred at the culmination of the procedure while i was on the heart/lung machine; there were bubbles in the tubing which travelled up into my right brain area causing a right sided complex stroke. My left side was adversely affected and left me with very little movement or feeling from my hand and fingers up the entirety of my left arm. I also have a great deal of weakness in my left leg and both of my feet are numb to the touch. I have no fine motor skills in my left hand and pain all the time.

I was hopeful that the botox injections would help; dr. hsia did not seem to know much about what she was doing and the trust i put in her was clearly erroneously given.

What i am left with is very little use of my left hand, no use of my fingers at all; I can only type with the right hand and it takes me forever to do any kind of writing, email, pay bills on line. I can no longer drive because of the paralysis of my left arm and hand and i am too afraid to do it because i feel that it would possibly endanger others needlessly; I must depend on my husband or friends to take me when i need to go out anywhere; my independence is gone for the most part; i feel like a prisoner because of these issues.

The injections of this toxin has been the low point of my life here-to-for.

Why on earth did this happen when it could easily been avoided; if i had known it would have caused these things, believe you me, i never would have allowed that woman to do what she did to me; TRUST what does that mean now?????

Economically, i now must take an expensive anti-depressant to combat the severe depression i am suffering from daily; the cost is over$100 a month; my relationship with my incredible husband is being tested to the max and my professional life has been declining rapidly ( i am a therapist who works with issues such as self esteem and improving communication skills between people) I must take an inordinate amount of time trying to get myself dressed, personal care.

I can not cook very well and so my husband does all the food preparation, most of the household responsibilities which need to be done and most all things that keeping a home running require.

I was an avid gardner before the botox and even though the stroke left be somewhat disabled in the hand and arm the botox disabled me to the point which i find myself currently faced with; I might as well not have that hand. Because we have 5 acres and a huge vegetable area, I had to hire a gardner to do the work which i can no longer do. The financial cost comes nowhere close to the emotional pain this situation has caused me and my family; will it ever end???? if i had only known; if only.......

In May of 2007 I received Botox injections in my face, which I had been doing for ten years. About an hour and a half after the procedure, I developed very disturbing symptoms. I felt as if I was paralyzed. My speech became slurred. I could not walk. The only thing I could do was get in bed. I stayed there for days.

On the third day I called the doctor who had done the procedure and told his office what had happened. He was very alarmed and wanted to see me. I went to a walk-in doctor's office. The doctor there told me there was no way to know if it was in the bloodstream.

I contacted the company that makes Botox and filed a complaint. A representative contacted me and told me he had never heard of such a reaction.

I got Botox and immediately got shortness of breath and a bad consistent cough. I went back to my plastic surgeon who told me that there is no way that it could be from the Botox. After approximately 3 months of consistent trouble breathing I got it again, and it got worse. I was told again that it could not be the Botox.

I went to Mayo Clinic to see if something serious was wrong with me. I told them that my cough and shortness of breath happened after botox, and they said that botox injection do not cause that symtomology. Then they did other tests on me and found nothing wrong.
