Greg of Lakewood CO (07/08/08)
SEARS advertised a Dockers promotion shortly before Father's Day where if you buy $100 in Dockers items you were said to receive a $75 Shell Gas card and $10 Sears gift card. When at the counter with my participating items, the clerk said she knew nothing of the promotion (even after showing it to her in the ad on the counter). She called over another employee who said she had heard of it, but they did not have all the information yet so I should leave my name, address, and phone # and they would mail me the rebate forms once they came in.

I waited 2 weeks and nothing arrived, so I tried calling back the store multiple times. When I was finally able to reach someone with knowledge on the issue, he said that all the forms had been mailed out and that I should look online if I still needed the form. When I looked online and printed out the form it said the promotion expired the previous day (June 27). I tried calling back the SEARS store, but after 5 unsuccessful attempts in 2 days I gave up and called the national customer relations number.

A woman by the name of Sherry listened to my story and said she would contact the SEARS store and see if we could find a resolution. She told me an associate named Carol would call me by the end of the week with a resolution. Carol called me that Thursday and stated she could not get in touch with the Dockers promotion people and had no new information for me, but she wanted me to try and mail in the rebate anyways and see if they would honor it. I told her I did not want to do that because the Dockers promotion line already already told me when I called previously that they did not accept late submissions. If they did not accept the submission, I would be stuck with the $100+ in Dockers items and no gift or gas cards, as advertised.

I called the national customer relations department back at SEARS to speak with Sherry and see what resolution we could arrive at. Another representative answered the phone and told me there was nothing she could do and I needed to go to the store. I asked to speak with Sherry and she told me she was watching her walk out the door at that time and that there was nothing else they could do for me. I explained that Sherry asked me to call her back if the problem was not resolved, but she insisted that the problem could only be fixed at the store itself and there was nobody else that I could speak with in the office (hard to believe there are no supervisors).

So in the end, I bought $100 in Dockers products and nobody could or wanted to help get me the rebates that were advertised in the national circular. Since some of the Dockers items were boxers, Sears will not take them back and I am stuck paying for overpriced boxers that I was lead to believe I would be getting rebates for. FALSE ADVERTISING at its best!

I spent $100 expecting to receive a $10 Sears gift card and a $75 Shell gas card, instead I have neither. Now I am stuck with a couple pairs of overpriced Dockers boxers and pants that they said I cannot return and I have spent over 3 hours of cell phone minutes calling back and forth, and waiting, on the phone with Dockers, Sears national customer relations, and the Sears store itself in Littleton, CO.

I purchased an egift card for my brother who tried to use for an automotive repair. Upon checking-out the purchased and paid for Sears Blue eGift Cards was indicating it had not been activated. My brother received an email announcing the gift and the $500 had been withdrawn from my account. Because my brother was unable to leave with the new tires on his car and I had no choice but to put the charges on another credit card. I spoke with Sharon, a customer care specialist supervisor, on 4/30/08 at apx. 1pm (PST) and was told there was notes on the screen referencing a code and she did not know what the code meant. She also told me that there was no contact for egift department and therefore was nothing I or she could do.

Customer support and the store had no way of issuing a refund and could not offer me any contact information to pursue a refund. I tried sending messages Through the online help and they keep getting rejected because my emails contain my order number which would be the only way they can reference this transaction. So Sears has withdrawn money from my account and issued a gift card with no funds available and can not offer any way to get an refund (other than the note the customer service rep sent them). Jerry at the San Luis Obispo automotive department was 100% more customer service oriented than the customer service department.

$500 gift card, interest on secondary credit card used and several hours of my time.

Juanita of Honolulu HI (11/29/07)
I ordered 2  Sears gift cards ($25 and $75) on 11/6/07, online. I received an email order confirmation stating that the cards had been mailed. It is now 11/29/07, and I have not received the cards. I have repeatedly contacted Sears both online and by telephone and have not received any information on my cards.  All I want to do now is cancel the order completely. I spoke to a customer Service rep named Gianni on 11/29/07 at approx 8:30 pm EST, and she said she would cancel the order. She stated it would take 5 days, and I would receive an email with the cancellation information.

I have been charged 100.00 dollars on my credit card, and I want this to be removed. Because of past experiences with Sears, I probably will not receive any response to this last request. I have $100 tied up and no gift cards.

Phyllis of Middleboro MA (01/21/07)
On January 13 I used a $30.00 gift card from the Galleria (American Express) aat Sears. I bought a sweater for $17.99 and used the remainder for printer ink. In order to use the $12.01 (remainder) Sears had to transfer it to their own gift card and threw the mall card away.

The sweater didn't fit and I returned it to Sears at the Independence Mall in Kingston, MA. The clerk rang up the return but couldn't give me a credit because it was on an American Express gift card. I went back to the Sears at Taunton and the manager said they couldn't give me a credit because I returned the sweater to the Kingston mall. What do I do now? I might add that the malls and the stores are clueless as to how to handle these gift card problems.

Sylvain of Toronto Ontario (01/10/07)
This the second attempt at recovering my money from my gift card which still has 90.00 credit balance I've gone through president line spoke to mary and katherine who refuse to even consider to respond.I am surprised no response as usually being a customer of sears and have several appliances call in and allways being serviced professionally And with courtesy.

I was in the store Monday evening at yorkdale location and purchased a dishwasher approx 853.00 and decided to use the remainder of my card balance toward the purchase.the sales rep adib narang advised card no longer active was expired.he called customer service, spoke to christen who said could not help and wil lnot help as card expired advised still a 90.00 balance of my money on the card and I want it not back but applied to the purchase she then spoke to sales rep who then passed phone to me whre the customer service said there were no supervisors or managers.

We called back the sales rep said we may reach different decision if spoke to anther rep,we had the same one christen who hung up when the sales rep said customer wanted to speak to her.

Called president line as per instructed by the sales person adib spoke to mary who refused to even hear my case and said Will not help at all, then I asked if can be escalated, refused and advised that her decision was final and would not be returning or debiting the amount from the appliance purchase .Then asked if can send e mail to sears of canada she then said you can try but it will come back to me as she will note all issues be directed to her.Now that was the poorest costomer service I had ever encountered.

Greg of Glendale CA (01/27/06)
I received two Sears gift cards for my birthday from family members who wanted to help me purchase a product that Sears sells on line at Sears.com. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that Sears gift cards are NOT HONORED at Sears.com. Not only is it not possible to use the cards to order on line, but Sears makes NO PROVISIONS whatsoever for their gift cards to be applied to the purchase of any items from Sears.com.

I have worked my way all the way up the customer support food chain, ending with an email to the CEO and have met with the same response at every level. Sorry. But feel free to use the cards in our retail stores. They do not stock this item in their retail stores.

I have verified with customer service that I cannot: a) Use the cards on line b) Redeem the cards for cash c) Use the cards in-store to order the item from Sears.com d) Apply the balance of the gift cards to a Sears charge card which I could then use on Sears.com

Under California law: Business and Professions Code Section 17537.11(a)., it states Gift certificates cannot be offered in a manner that is untrue or misleading. It seems likely that most states have similar laws.

In my opinion it is completely misleading for Sears to offer gift cards that cannot be used at a sears store, on line or otherwise, without a large and clear indication at the point of purchase that discloses this fact. The family members who purchased the cards for me are not stupid, one is a high level network engineer for a large telecommunications company, it never crossed their minds that these cards might not work on Sears.com and I think that is true for the majority of people. Not only that but these cards are advertised ALL OVER the Sears.com web site which is further misleading. Yes the fine print discloses the limitation, however most people would not think to check the fine print to find out if a *Sears* gift card could be used at *Sears*.

I'm out $100 until this is resolved.

Edward of Oak Lawn IL (09/16/04)
receiver a $25.00 gift card from my son-in-law for fathers day. went to use the card, was told it was not activated which seemed odd to me since i was there when he bought it. the manager at the store did some research and said no. contacted sears cust care case id 869826 they said no. contacted the card company they said no. at each level the problem could have been resolved, but was not.

i'm not looking for anything for free, just what was allready paid for, but i've allready invested more time and effort than the card is worth.

Linda of Kokomo IN (10/23/03)
I was given two gift cards as gifts, I went into the store (I'm not a regular shopper of Sears) to use these gift cards and discovered I really liked some of the womens business attire. I went to purchase a suit with my gift cards to find out they had so called expired. Money does not expire? Why on earth would someone pay for a gift card in cash only to have it expire? I know I will not shop in this store again & I find it very negitive in trying to keep current customers or trying to win new customers.

Sears is responsible for taking money in exchange for absolutely nothing in return. This is unfair and not very good business.

Lisa of Hot Springs Village ARKANSAS (10/20/03)
My husband wanted to use his SEARS gift card, from his mother for his birthday, on-line. There was nothing on the web sight stating that he could not use his gift card so when payment was to be entered, he tried to use the gift card number in the place of the credit card number. When this failed, he figured, like in some of the on-line businesses, that you would put in your credit card and then it would ask if there was a gift card. Well of course the card went through and so I told him to call customer service right away, cancel the items he had put on the card, and find out what we needed to do with the gift card.

He had talked to a man with your on-line company, four minutes later, who said he would cancel the order, and that my husband would have to redeem the card at a sears store. So my husband the following day, took his wonderful sears card down to our local sears and purchased the items he wanted with the gift card. The next day I check our e-mail and noticed that sears.com sent us an e-mail stating that Jason's items had been sent out! The purchase, at the tune of $118.99, had already cleared our bank!

On Friday the 17th day of October, Jason contacted Sears.com to ask what he was to do about the situation. The lady that he talked to ( if you want names you need to talk to Jason.) said to just take everything back to his local Sears store and they would take care of his refund. Funny, the items showed up this same day! That evening was our Anniversary celebration so he took all the items back on Saturday the 18th of October. With the packages still unopened, same Sears packing tape on them, the manager refused to take them back because when she opened the package there was an item missing.

Obviously, any one with an IQ greater then a Kindergartener would have known this was a warehouse oversight considering the manager was the one who opened the original packaging! She said that this was none of her concern that this was a Sear.com problem so my husband directed her to call a supervisor at Sears.com (whom told him that there would be no problems getting a full refund.) He talked to the supervisor and told her that he also wanted the shipping refunded also. She said We can't do that. His reply was A large company, such as Sears in the technically advance society that we live in, cannot reimburse shipping? She finally agreed, then he handed the phone to the manager so the supervisor could instruct the manager on how to refund this mess!

He was treated rudely, was miss informed, and had an all around bad experience that is not fully resolved yet! Happy Birthday Jason! I am not as patient as he is so this is the deal. I will be contacting our lawyer within 3 days, earlier if we overdraft, and I will be seeing Sears in court for any and all cost and inconvenience this has costed our family. You know word of mouth can make and break a company. I will let everyone on this planet, be it local, national, news or paper, internet know how Sears.com and Sears of Hot Springs, Arkansas treated our family!

Sharon of Nashville TN (09/15/03)
My Aunt and Uncle purchased a gift card from the Oak Ridge store. This card was for 25.00. In September 2003 I tried to use it for a purchase and the sales clerk said that it was no longer valid. The Card # is 6001 1591 3312 3795 and it says that it expires 2 years from issue date. Does that mean that if I didn't use it on time that the card is invalid even though $25.00 was spent in advance for me to have a gift at a later date. It is my understanding that the Federal government does not approve of this your not allowing me to use my gift card. Please respond to my E-mail address. Sharon Pitkin
