Friedman's Jewelers

Friedman's is the third largest jewelry retailer in the country. The Georgia-based company likes to say it is the largest chain within the 20 Southeastern and Midwestern states where most of its 681 stores are located.

Friedman's Faces Class Action Suit

The company says it has established itself as the "Value Leader" by offering a broad array of quality merchandise at competitive prices. It has also skillfully located its stores in high traffic locations where its target audience shops. All this sounds great, although not all of Friedman's customers are dazzled by the service, quality and refund policies.

There've also been some questions about the chain's financing policies, including a class-action lawsuit and a challenge by the Attorney General of Texas.

Here are a few of the more recent complaints we've received:

Marc of Rogers, TX August 12, 2009

My husband bought me a solitaire diamond engagement ring with a sapphire and diamond ring guard with a lifetime warranty in 2003/2004 and today(8/12/09) one of my side diamonds fell out and when I went online I found out that Freidman's had filled bankruptcy and I can not get my ring fixed and that I will have to take it to another jeweler to have it fixed and pay for it myself

Carol of Phelps, KY July 21, 2009

I purchased a diamond wedding band set from them and purchased a life time warranty with it. Now for several months the main diamond in the engagement ring has fallen out. I have the diamond but now I can't find a store to take it to to be repaired. I searched everywhere for this set and found it at Friedmans but what am I suppose to do? Lifetime warranty and no place to have it repaired. I don't feel as if I should have to pay for this service somewhere else when I purchased to insurance.

Brianne of Newnan, GA July 14, 2009

My fiance bought my engagement ring and wedding ring at the same time. 2 months after wearing the engagement ring, the diamonds (4) fell out of the center. When he took it to have it fixed, they would not fix it because he had not got it cleaned every 30 days from time of purchase. He had it for 3 months before he proposed!I had to end up going to 3 different jewelers 3 different times and it never held! The last jeweler finally tried adding a prong, but it changed the whole look of the ring and still did not hold. It sits in a box somewhere not being worn along with the wedding ring, for fear of losing more diamonds. The store in Newnan went out of business! I wonder why???!!!!

Ray of Beaumont, TX July 6, 2009

My diamond fell out of my wedding set while insured. I went to bring it to the company and they were no longer in business. So I have a 2 year warranty since 11/16/2007. What am I supposed to do with a 1200 ring that they can not honor in the contract. I need a repair of my ring and inconvience of not being a satisfied customer and no notification of closure prior to this. Urgent response! Very dissatisfied at this time.

Trish of Anderson, SC June 28, 2009

I was sold FAKE diamonds. I bought a pair of earrings for 2000.00 at Christmas 2 years ago and the back came off one of them. When I took them to a local jeweler for repair I was shocked to find out they are FAKE and worthless. I have the certificates of value and registration and all receipts signed by the Friedman representatives. I have a mound of paperwork and they are still FAKE.

ARNETTA of DOUGLASVILLE, GA June 22, 2009

Bought a platinum diamond ring. One small diamond on each side. Middle diamond fell out of the ring. Would like marquis center diamond replace. Had lifetime insurance on diamonds and ring.

Nena of Bay Minette, AL June 6, 2009

Through the years I bought several rings and earrings which they claimed were 10k gold. Today I took a few pieces to try and sell and found they were only 8k. Making them basically worthless and definately not worth the money I paid for them. One ring in paticular really made me upset to find this out. It wass sold as 10k with diamonds and tanzanite. It listed for 800 but, was on sale for a little over 400. When I found out the ring was only 8k I felt then that once again I had been taken to the cleaners.

Sandra of Clarksville, TN June 1, 2009

My Husbadn and I purchased wedding rings along with the insurance warranty and maintenance. We had no idea that the store located at Governor Square Mall had closed do to filing bankrupt, until we went to the store to have the rings cleaned and my husbands ring to have a missing stone replaced that had fallen out. At that time that's when we found out that the store was gone. We never received any type of correspondence or even a courtesy telephone call.

But, If your payment has not been paid by 2:00 pm EST on the date that it's due, they are surely going to slap a 39.00 late fee on you. I think it's wrong for us to pay for maintenance services when we are getting it. I've tried to talk this over with World Financial bank, but they are not hearing it, because it's not their fault that Friedman's filed bankrupt. Please Help!!

michelle of columbia, SC May 29, 2009

I purchased my husbands wedding ring from them in 2008 between January and march. I also purchased the extended warranty for free maintance on the ring, now that they are out of business my money has been lost and my husband needs his ring sized and a diamond replaced, and to get that done I will have to come out of pocket where if Friedman's was open they would have fixed it under the maintence warranty.

Samuel of Rivesville, WV May 20, 2009

I recieved a phone call asking to speak with my husband The call came thru call intercept on my phone satating he owed money since 2004 I ask the last four numbers of his SS NO they said 8900 That is not the last four numbers of his social sercurity number I tried to call back they said the number was not in service
