Mazda is recalling about 52,000 Mazda6 models from the 2009-2010 model years. The company said a “certain type of spider” may build a web iin the evaporative canister vent line, clogging the line. This in turn could eventually cause the fuel tank to leak, leading to fuel leakage and creating a fire hazard.
Mazda did not identify the specific type of spider believe to be responsible for the problem.
Dealers will inspect and clean up the canister vent line and install a spring to discourage spiders from entering. The recall is expected to begin before March 25, 2011.
