Maribel’s Sweets Inc. of New York, is recalling its New York Handbag Collection gourmet chocolate candies because they may contain undeclared peanuts and tree nuts (pistachios). People who have allergies to peanuts and pistachios run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The recalled chocolates were distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders.
The chocolates are packaged in either blue or red boxes in the quantities described below. Products were distributed between November 1, 2011 and December 23, 2011.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the nut-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of nuts. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes.
The product label has been corrected to properly declare all ingredients, including any nuts or other allergens.
Consumers who have purchased the chocolate candies are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-212 925 6999 between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

They have good stuff--my Kenmore freezer lasted 30 years before it quit this morning--but going online I found their ad which says in part "$495.00 for a 16.9 Kenmore freezer with Sears card." Otherwise the price would be $585.00. I asked is this a shoppers' discount card? And they said no, it's a Sears CREDIT CARD. So they're actually selling Sears CREDIT CARDS and trying to suck people in with that deceptive advertising. PLUS THE SHIPPING CHARGE COULD BE ANYTHING THEY WANT IT TO BE! No thank you, Sears! I'll go get something from Costco, or Sam's Club. At Costco the shipping's free and not only do they deliver, they set up your item! (Plus, since the Credit Card debacle of the last two years scared me, I now only use cash. The "inconvenience" (which in many cases helps you stop & think do you really need the items you buy, in my case today I do but I will not be ripped off!) is minimal. You go to the bank and you take out the money you need to see you through the week (or thru the emergency) plus a little extra for whatever.
Even a good brand of merchandise will not save Sears from the auctioneers' gavel. If they don't straighten out their business practices and quit trying to scam their customers, another once-great brand goes down the tubes, brought down by greed gone wrong. What else is new? Someday Sears will learn--hopefully, before that gavel falls, that they're appealing to customers--not to fools.
