Kia is recalling about 10,600 Kia Sorrento vehicles from the 2007-2008 model years.
The company said the right front passenger airbag may be turned off even though the passenger seat isoccupied.
The airbag is supposed to be turned off only when children and small adults are in the seat. The Kia's occupant classification system may misclassify an adult passenger as a child and improperly turn off the airbag.
Kia dealers will update the programming in the module at no charge.
