Hyundai Kia Recalls 2006-2008 Kia Optimas

Shifter cable may come loose, causing vehicle to roll when unattended

Hyundai Kia is recalling about 70,000 Kia Optimas from the 2006-2008 model years.

The company said the shift cable may have been incorrectly installed, which could cause the cable to detach from the shifter.

The shifter could then be moved into the park position while the vehicle's transmission is still in the last-used gear. That could allow the vehicle to roll, possibly causing a crash or striking a pedestrian.

Dealers will inspect the shift cable and reinstall it if necessary when the recall begins this month.
