Volkswagen is recalling more than 228,000 vehicles from the 2007 through 2009 model years to correct a problem with the windshield wiper/washer linkages potentially rubbing against a fuel supply line.

The company said that in the affected vehicles, the windshield wiper/washer linkages could chafe against the fuel supply line, possibly causing a fuel leak, which could cause a fire.
Dealers will inspect the vehicles and make changes as needed after the recall begins in January 2011.
