American Scientific Recalls Magnets

American Scientific is recalling about 87,000 magnets. Surface paint on the magnets can contain high levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

This recall involves horseshoe, rectangular bar and U-shaped magnets sold primarily to schools for use in science classes. The magnets have red and blue paint on the surface of the magnet. Item numbers included in the recall are:

The item numbers are located on the product's packaging.

The magnets, made in India, were sold at independent distributors nationwide from October 2006 through February 2008 for between $1 and $4.

Consumers should immediately stop using these products and contact American Scientific to receive a free replacement.
