VW Recalls Almost 800,000 Vehicles |
February 26, 2007
The affected vehicles include Jettas, New Beetles, Golf/GTIs and R32s including the 4th generation 1999-2005 Jetta sedans, 2001-2005 Jetta wagons, 1998-2007 New Beetle, 2003-2007 New Beetle Convertibles, 1999-2006 Golf/GTIs and the 2004 R32, all in the United States. The malfunctioning brake lights and brake light switches at times do not work properly and at other times brake lights incorrectly remain on. This recall expands a previous recall announced by VW last year when 362,000 Jettas and New Beetles were recalled because of the same defective part. Volkswagen dealers will be immediately accepting service appointments to perform the repair at no charge even though VW does not plan to notify owners until April. The recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
