'Personal Identity' Sweaters Sold by Sears

'Personal Identity' children's v-neck sweaters with drawstrings are being recalled by Sears.

The recalled sweaters have a drawstring through the hood, posing a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.

The recalled sweaters have a V-neck, hood and kangaroo pocket. The sweaters are either pink with charcoal stripes or blue with white stripes. They were sold in the following girls' sizes: small, medium, large, and extra large.

The sweaters, made in Pakistan, were sold at Sears stores nationwide during September 2007 for about $34.

Consumers should immediately remove the drawstring to eliminate the hazard.
