Jordache Recalls Hooded Sweatshirts

Jordache Ltd. is recaling about 30,000 youth hooded sweatshirts because the drawstring presents a strangulation hazard.

The recall is for "U.S. Polo Association" sweatshirts.

The garments have a drawstring through the hood, posing a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.

The recalled youth hooded fleece garments have drawstrings. They were sold in a variety of colors and have "U.S. Polo Assn." written on them. A sewn-in tag also reads, "U.S. Polo Assn". The style number for these garments is 12-5169.

The sweatshirts were sold at JC Penney stores nationwide from September 2005 through December 2005 for about $40.

Consumers should remove or cut the drawstrings to eliminate the hazard, or return the garment to the store where purchased for a refund.
