PhotoDomega NY International of Brooklyn, NY, is recalling Green Day Brand Dried Coconut because it contains undeclared sulfites. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

The recalled product comes in a 3oz (85gram), clear plastic bag with the following code: Exp 12/15/2014. The UPC code is 6 950296 800744. The product was sold in the NY Metro area. It is a product of China.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in packages of Green Day Brand Dried Coconut which did not declare sulfites on the label.

The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

Consumers who have purchased Green Day Brand Dried Coconut should return it to the place of purchase.
