penalized by the Federal Trade Commission for not responding to consumer inquiries. That will come as no news to the hundreds who've written to us, including those below:
Robert of Battle Ground, WA November 4, 2008 Robert of Battle Ground WA (11/04/08) Barbara of Alexandria, VA November 4, 2008 Barbara of Alexandria VA (11/04/08) Michael of Attleboro, MA November 2, 2008 Michael of Attleboro MA (11/02/08) R of North Richland Hills, TX October 28, 2008 R of North Richland Hills TX (10/28/08) I also requested a free report by phone and received a letter from Equifax in Atlanta, GA stating I had to send the PIN number or they would not send me my report. The Equifax letter offered to sell me my credit score for 7.95 without a PIN number. A replacement PIN number can be had for 10 each netting them another 30. It appears this whole ordeal is designed to extort more money. I called the Equifax number furnished by the utility company 800-392-7816 and was told Texas residents have to use CSC for Equifax reports and that is the reason we were not given PIN numbers AND the rep told me to send a copy of my social security card and a copy of my driver's license to yet a different PO Box addressed to CSC for the report. None of the three credit reporting agencies ever asked for these copies. Red Flag Alert! I asked for and received credit reports from Experian and TransUnion and received them without a demand for a PIN number for MY credit report to be sent to me. If you failed to receive your PIN number from Equifax, please complain to the FTC and your state Attorney General's office. Nancy of Depew, NY October 24, 2008 Nancy of Depew NY (10/24/08) When I tried to discuss with Equifax by email, it kept telling me I could, if I log in. I got another 1-800 # for Equifax and both the operator who could not help me and the supervisor who refused to help me and then hung up on me when I said I was filing a complaint, were EXTREMELY rude and refused contact information to file this complaint. | |||
