Rite-Aid Pharmacy

Linda of Pacific Grove CA (1/24/02):
When picking up my daughter's renewed prescription for Accutane, she noticed that the pills were different than the ones she had been taking for the last month. We questioned the Pharmacist on duty, they asked us to go home and bring in what Ashley had been taken, and they informed us there had been an error and she had been given Accupril, a blood pressure medicine.

She had at this point taken 2 a day for 29 days. We went home and I did take her blood pressure, it was lower than normal (89/64). She went back to the Dr. to be sure nothing was majorly wrong, and to find out if she could begin her "correct" medication which is for acne.

The first 4 days of taking the medication given to her she had diarrhea and was always tired, she also was very emotional, crying often. Her period also came 2 weeks after she had just finished her last one. We don't know if any of these were caused by the meds. but are very concerned about the mistake and the severe consequences that another person may have if they were given her Accutane.

Ashley lost 3 hours of work to go to the Dr., and was very worried what was going to happen to her. Also very disappointed that she had not even begun her therapy for her acne. She and I want this to be reported so that this pharmacy is investigated into what the problem is. This was the second error in one months time with them, as I got home with my meds. and realized they had given me another persons prescription with a similar name.

Richard of Philadelphia (3/25/03):
I went to the pharmacy to have my prescription filled and was treated with disrespect as if I were a criminal. I explained I was in a car accident in Washington DC and was getting my doctors prescription filled and that I was on file. I was then asked the time of my appointment. What has that to do with my meds? I'm in pain I need my meds and I'm treated like a criminal.

I had to ask the pharmacist 3 times when I could pick them up. She then rolled her eyes and gave me a "you're not getting anything here junkie" look and said maybe Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

Joan of Adger AL (8/8/02):
Prescriptions were filled incorrectly on several occasions. If I was not familiar with the drug, due to length of time taking it, I would have been taking someone else's medication. Their pharmacy staff is very rude and sarcastic. They act as though they are doing you a favor to refill a prescription and get aggravated if you don't have refill number, or exact name of the drug you are taking. Complained to the Store Manager and my complaints were ignored.

This is pathetic since most people don't want to take medication, the only reason that they are there getting medicine is because it is necessary to survive or get well.

Temia of Victorville CA (4/2/02):
As with each time I have gone to this particular Rite-Aid (in Victorville) I have had to endure an extremely lengthy wait for a prescription that was called in hours before. The clerk is always rude, dismissing customers' complaints and concerns by walking away as they are speaking to her, not really willing to find out through the insurance company why the eligibility is not going through but rather telling the customer that the prescription can not be filled period.

This is what occurred tonight and many other days i have filled prescriptions there. It is not surprising that she treats the consumer in this manner because she treat the pharmacist that way too, being blatantly disrespectful to him in front of customers and making him appear to be incompetent which gives an uneasy feeling when your life may be in some sort of jeopardy due to an error.

I was both frustrated as I had just had dental work done hours earlier and still in pain, and embarrassed as she discussed openly what she assumed the status of my medical eligibility, and that because I had state-funded medical insurance I was too poor to pay the $10.99 for the needed medication until the matter could be resolved.
