Sergeant's

Wilda of Broadway VA (10/08/08)
On Sunday October 5th I purchased Sergeants Gold Flea and Tick Killer. I applied it according to instructions on my two year old beagle. I have always used Advantage, but happen to run out. He had never had any reaction. However within two hours of applying the Sergeants Gold, he began shaking and drooling. He was in a misery constantly digging at himself and biting his feet. I quickly gave him a bath.

I called the hotline on the box for help. They said give him a bath in dish detergent. After four baths within three hours and benadryl he started to calm down some. It took almost 24 hours and more baths and benadryl to get him back to normal. He is still digging at his head two days later. After checking the web and seeing all the same complaints about the product, I can not see why it is still on store shelves.

I bought Seargeant's Gold flea & tick squeeze on for dogs 9lbs to 20lbs at my local Walmart store for 11.97. I put it on my 10lb. Shitzu who will be one year old in a couple of weeks. I followed the directions completely. In about 30-45 minutes I noticed her whining, crying and very figity. She could not sit still. I have in the past purchased Frontline from my vet and she has never acted this way with that product so I thought I better wash it off.

Still acted the same way so I called the Hotline on the back of the box. The lady stated that I needed to wash her in Palmolive dish soap 3 or 4 times and I could give her some vitamin E oil on her skin. I washed her 4 times and still no change. Also I applied the vitamin E oil and no change. I then called the vet and he said to make sure she does not start vomiting or having diariha and that I should give her Benidryl and that should calm her.

I cannot believe that this stuff is being sold. I am so upset and feel awful for doing this to her. I will never buy anything but Frontline.

Friday 10-3-08 my niece went to Walmart to purchase a flea killer for he pet of 4 years. she bought a more exspensive brand to be sure it would take care of the fleas she put it on her dog at 11:00pm on 10-3-08 she called me on 10-4-08 at 4:15 am Our little dog who is a Shitz-tzu was having a reaction to medication that was given to her it was a Sergeant's Gold Flea & Tick Squeeze on for dogs 9 to 20 lbs I have the code #.

she was so sick she was all wet and could not stop the drooling. She would run and drop and her hind leg would kick right straight back and she would lick her paw to even bleed it was so painful for this little dog. we took her to the vet as soon as the doors opened and we cried all the way there thinking that our little pet was going to die and my niece who is also Pregnant was stressed out to the max.

when the vet called the Number on the back of the box they said this was a normal reaction can you believe that NORMAL reaction I will never forgive them for what they did to us and that poor dog. I will not quit until this stuff is off the market.

I applied Sergeant's Gold Flea and Tick Squeeze-On to my Chihuahua Sabastian who had a severe reaction. I gave both of our dogs a bath and figured I would treat the little guy before taking our pompapoo to the groomer. My wife and I were gone about three hours and when we came home the dog was running around the house frantic, his right back leg was twitching, and he was hacking and frothing at the mouth. I immediately went on line and googled allergic reaction to Sergeant' Pro and to my horror I found out that I was not the only dog owner to experience this.

I immediately gave him two very intensive baths and later the same evening gave him two more additional baths with Dawn dish detergent. He still has a slight hind leg twitch but I gave him bendaryl and he is finally sleeping soundly. One of the active ingredients in Sergeant's Pro is Cyphenothrin (pyrethroid chemical class). Here are common Poisoning with Pyrethroid symptoms: - Irritation of skin and eyes. - Irritability to sound or touch, abnormal facial sensation, sensation of prickling, tingling or creeping on skin, numbness. - Headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive salivation, fatigue. - In severe cases: fluid in the lungs and muscle twitching may develop. Seizures may occur and are more common with more toxic cyano-pyrethroids. Sound familiar. My wife and I are swearing off any and all insecticide based pest control products and will go natural from here on out.

I purchased the flea medication SentryPro XFC (73091-01942) P001707-1 on Oct. 3, 2008 to treat my two dogs and a neighbor's dog I am watching. I applied it as directed at about 8pm that evening and noticed them dry heaving and trying to lick the air as if to get a bad taste out of their mouth. All were scratching and itching like they wanted to crawl out of their skin.

I called the company's emergency number and was instructed to bathe them with dish washing detergent and apply vitamin E to the area of application them feed them some canned tuna to relieve the sensation/taste in their mouths. Te representative indicated that it must have been because they were playing with each other that they got some of the medication in their mouth which causes them to lick and pant. I didn't see them playing with each since it was already evening and they were in the house. The representative said that this is not a systemic chemical and therefore will not enter their blood system and that it can cause a numbing effect on the dog's skin and mouth. I, however, am truly worried about the effect of my dog's health and any long term repercussions this might have on their well being. I find it also incredible that there are so many complaints and concerns about this product for so long and nothing has been done about it to prevent other owner's and their dogs from having to suffer these physical ailments and potentially harmful consequences from the use of this product. Sergeant's should remove the words 'Pet Care' from their name along with this product. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further get this stuff off store selves.

It's been about 12 hours since I applied the flea medication and the dog's are still itching and restless even though I have given them each a couple of baths and applied vitamin E oil and tea tree oil to their backs. I have also given them the tuna water, which is the only thing they liked. I will continue to monitor their condition.
