Patricia of Miami writes (1/2/03):
We purchased a Beagle puppy from this store. We were told that he had a heart murmur, therefore being defective they would not guarantee the puppy. They also told us that he was eight weeks old and that he had all of his shots up to date, none of which was true. We fell in love with the puppy so we decided to buy him anyway. They gave us no facts on the dog and basically told us we were on our own.

After purchasing the puppy two days later we took him to the vet. I was told then that he had worms and a cold like the flu and was given antibiotics and a medicine to treat the worms. I was also told to come back in a few days. I noticed my dog getting worse and becoming lethargic. I took him back to the vet to find out that he had kennel cough and the worms were getting worse. They switched the antibiotics and told me to come back in five days.

Well, two days later the dog was in very bad shape -- we thought he was going to die. I took him back to the vet and the kennel cough was turning into pneumonia. He had to be hospitalized for 12 days. As you can see none of this has to do with his heart murmur and he was in very bad shape. He also had never had shots before and was only 6 weeks old when we got him.

It is illegal for them to sell you a dog under 8 weeks and they did. They refused to reimburse any of the expenses and told me that they told me the dog had no guarantee because of his heart murmur. In total we have spent $813.53.

Patricia should hang onto all of her records and file suit in Small Claims Court.
