I purchased a two and a half month old puppy at the pet company in the Staten Island mall. Upon his first vet visit, my puppy was diagnosed with two parasites. I immediately returned to the pet company and filed the necessary paperwork to receive compensation for my vet visit and the medications. It has been four months and I have not received a dime from them. I have tried calling the phone number on file and the message states the number has been disconnected.
Consumer Complaints & Reviews

Very disappointed and upset with the Pet Company. Their lack of concern regarding my puppy's health. Their promise to reimburse me for the kennel cough my pet came down with, within 5 days after my purchase. The manager Jaimie in the Staten Island Mall refused to come out of the back room to discuss my refund. I have tried to contact the telephone number that he supplied me with and it goes straight to voice mail with the mailbox being full. I was promised a refund within 4 weeks and it has been almost 12 weeks.

I was working in the pet company in Milford Mall, about 2 months ago now. I still didn't get my last 2 checks yet. I kept calling the store and a so-called manager named Jamie (when you get to see him, you would laugh on how he looks and talks). All he does is sit in the back and eat all day. But anyway, I kept saying he got his before I felt. And I kept calling that home office of Sheron ** and I went straight to the voice mail.
That store, the pet company in Milford Mall, is so nasty and got fleas from bringing in straight kittens off people who got kittens they don't want. Ask Jamie, the so-called district manager. He will tell you just like everybody else would tell you. And I strongly agree that the puppies are from puppy mills. I got every proof to know.

I am an employee of PetCo. I am shocked and horrified that these terrible stories are on consumer affairs! I am a dog and cat groomer at one of the PetCos in New Mexico. I worked closely with the store associates and we care for every animal that comes in! It makes no difference whether the animal in question are crickets, fish, reptiles, mice, birds, exotics, etc. If one of the ferrets are coughing, we take it to the vet, after we check, to make sure it is the only one coughing. We have had to take in a whole kennel full of ferrets to be treated for coughs! We do not just let the animals in our care stay ill or perish. Our facilities are clean and our animal habitats are well-kept.
I have heard horror stories about pets in grooming salons as well. If an animal in the grooming salon is becoming too nervous or upset, we call the pet parent immediately and schedule for a second session to finish what the client has asked. Our dryers do not use heat. There are always two sources of water in each kennel as well as regulations regarding the number of dryers allowed on a kennel, restrictions on certain "short-snouted" breeds and species (cats), as well as the timers for the dryers.
The pets left in our care are constantly checked on and it amazes me that someone within our company made the mistake of somehow "cooking" a Lhasa Apso to death. I am utterly appalled and upset. We have customers coming into our store all the time now lecturing us about that poor woman and her deceased pet. It's heartbreaking but it's frustrating because it was not our store. It was a stupid mistake and I hope the employee responsible has paid for it.

I used to work at The Pet Company in Arbor Place Mall, from February until May of this year. I was shocked to see the way the puppies were treated, and how the management neglected to inform consumers and concerned employees about the health and welfare of the puppies. I was a sales associate and my job was to sell puppies and lie to customers. It's a filthy place with a bunch of lazy employees and managers that leave puppies in the feces for hours.
I was one of 2 or 3 people who cared about these animals and cleaned up after them. I made sure they had water and clean crates. I also tried very hard to rotate puppies and bring a few out, each day I work, and hold them. It's the only time they get to come out. When customers want to see them, then I would bring them out, but usually the popular puppies got to come out of their horrible cages, and they play with customers. The rest never got to come out. I felt horrible for them being stuck in those cages all day, everyday, and watch other puppies playing or going home with a new family. It broke my heart. I cried and prayed everyday, for God to help me find good homes for the ones who had been at the store for several months, that got overlooked. When they find a home, I cry because I know they will be happy, they will be loved and they will be free from their prison.
I promised those puppies that I wouldn't close that place down, and I won't give up until I do. The puppies are all very sick, they never see vets. The time I was there, almost 2 months, the puppies one but he didn't bother looking at any of the puppies who were seriously sick. Those that had been in this tiny little room, called the "sick room", another thing customers don't know. Those puppies had been in that room for months, but all he did was look at the 2 brand new puppies that came in that day. The puppies are angels but they are yelled at, kicked around, and deprived of every comfort a puppy should have. There are no toys, no walks, and no companionship. Around the time when I quit, they were cutting back on the precious babies' food. They were starving them. I got pictures of an emaciated Great Dane puppy, nothing but ribs. All the puppies are starving and sick, you can see their ribs through their fur. I've been talking with PETA and WESTGA SPCA because I have to close them down. Please help me shut them down and expose the cruelty and neglect, for the puppies and for all the animals being neglected right now, in one of their stores. Thank you.

Hi! I am not sure I am contacting the right people but I recently had a few issues with my local Petco and as a loyal customer and former employee I thought you should know. I was in the store about two weeks ago and was shopping for some of my own pets when I passed through the aquatics section. I noticed several red-eared sliders crowded in their small tank. As a former employee, I cannot think of a single reason that could justify having that many turtles in that size tank. While observing the turtles I noticed one of them had a very large cut on its neck and it was bleeding terribly. I immediately notified the manager on duty at the time (I cannot remember her name though). Since working at Petco, I have been working as a veterinary technician and knew that he needed to be treated.
The "manager" or "team leader" women just walked over and took him out of the tank and into the reptile room. She rolled her eyes as I expressed concern as if I were inconveniencing her for notifying her about the poor injured turtle. She left me feeling very uneasy about his care as there was no apology for his injury, no thank you for letting her know and nothing said to me about how he would be taken for an exam. Then yesterday when I returned to Petco, I checked on the turtles again. The one that had been injured was put back in the tank with the large cut still visible and now another one had an injured leg! The second ones toes on his back foot that were all cut and were bleeding! And yesterday I think there were more turtles than the first time.
I was talking to my friend about the situation and when the closest employee that was working in that section appeared, he must have heard me talking because he just walked over and looked in the tank. When I started to explain to the young man that the another one was injured and the other one should not have been put back out with visible injuries, he just shrugged his shoulders, laughed a little bit and asked what I wanted him to do about it! I think he should have gotten the manager but he did nothing! I said to him fine I am going to buy the one with the injured neck! I have a turtle tank and I didnt have enough space for both injured turtles in my tank at home but I couldnt leave him there again.
The employees and management obviously could care less about the animals well being and it just makes me sick! The aquatics employee just laughed some more and left to get me a box. When he returned, he boxed him up and just handed him over, it was just that easy. He didnt offer a caresheet, talk to me about proper housing, lighting or even what to feed him! Thankfully I already had everything I needed and know what they need but what about other customers?! What is happening to all of the pets being sold? Are customers being educated on the pets they want to purchase so they go to a safe and forever home that is not only right for the pet but also the owner? I do have to say at the registered checking out, the employee there did ask if I wanted a caresheet and had me sign off about salmonella.
Overall, Petco Bel Air has gone so far down hill I do not think I will be shopping there ever again! I will also be letting everyone I know about this experience so that they do not support this store. It is so sad as a former employee, that used to love working there and always thought everyone their really cared about the animals to now not even want to go in for my bird food! I hope that someone in corporate finds this information helpful and feels something should done to help Petco Bel Air become the clean, organized store it should be with employees that truly care about the animals and their well being.

I worked for PETCO for over two years, was promoted to pricing and inventory manager and held this position for eight months. Part of my job was to mark items down to manager choice before they get donated to rescue groups. During that time, they transfer over an assistant manager who was already labeled as lazy. I complained about her from the start.
Her demeanor was racial and she was always profiling the African American customers and employees, accusing them of stealing items from the store and stealing snakes, when in fact the snakes were never missing. She did not do a proper habitat check when I called PETCO hotline and my DM all of my complaints were ignored. In January 2010, I marked down a black fish stand from the last standing clearance price of $72.00 to the new manager choice price of $65.00, which I had the right to do so. On that Saturday weekend before Superbowl, I purchased one for that price plus my discount, which I had the right to use and everyone knew about it.
They waited until almost seven weeks after that when I complained again against their assistant store manager for racial profiling against an African American ex-employee and slandering my name to lower ranking employees to say I should not have bought the product for that price and fired me and refuse to give me my unemployment, when they all know it was a lie I had been purchasing manager choice since I was first hired and while I was in the position, no one ever came and said 'what you're doing is wrong'.
However the assistant store manager was able to deceive PETCO return all products off a receipt that a Caucasian employee parent had purchased without their discount card, then re-ring it and apply the employee discount without the parent nor the product in the store. Sign forms and return $20.00 to the employee's dad who happens to be her neighbor. PETCO Policy you cannot get your discount without your card and proper ID, so is that not internal theft, but she is still employed, she's Caucasian, he's Caucasian and I am a person of color.

Okay, so I work at the Pet Company. I am not proud of that. I am a pre-vet major and I needed a job badly. Let me tell you all that all of your alligations are correct. These animals are NOT taken care of in the least. There are roaches everywhere and a whole lot of un-caring staff. I am the only one at my location that cares anything about the puppies. I bought a pekingese from the pet company and he was allergy ridden, had an eye disease, kennel cough, and worms. this is a decrepid place. I work there only to ensure that on my watch the puppies get a little love and proper care.

Well, I have been working for one of those stores, and I am going to tell you people the real truth of where the puppies coming from and how they being treated there.
When I started I was very excited, I am a huge dog's fan and working in the pet store sounded like fun to me.....The excitment ended after the very first day of working there.
How the puppies is being delivered: Well, there was a guy, who would drive to some of the close states, like PA, DE, NY, NJ and CT itself, he would already know the location of where he is going to get the puppy from. All of the puppies, by the way, would come from a puppy mill. All the bull s**t that sales people would tell you about professional breeders is a lie!...Professional breeder Never sell a pure breed healthy puppy to a pet store!...So they guy would pay as much as $200 or $300 for a pup, put them in a tiny cage in his truck and drive to the store.
At the store: As soon as puppies delivered, sales people put them in to another tiny metal cages in a back room, where puppies would stay for several days, without excersises or even being let out for at least a few minutes!...Sales people would tell you that they have their own Vet. that comes once a week and check all of the puppies, it's another bull ****. Yes, they do have a vet. but he would come only once a month and check only new puppies, not all of them!
Althought, after puppies being arrived, sales people start "making up" their own prices for puppies, so the price which the store itself payed for a pup, goes from $200 to $2,000 or even $3,000!!...Now, they will tell you that puppy is AKC and is coming with a waranty, and waranty would cover all the vet expenses and if dog dies you would get a new one for the same price you have paid.....Well, everyone can buy AKC online, if they want....And about waranties, if you will go on www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/pet_company.htm and read the complaints from actual customers, you'll find out, that waranties are although a bull ****, most of the people that have purchased their dogs from the pet stores, have paid more on a vet bills then the actual cost of the dog!!...And nothing have been refunded.
If puppy gets sick while being in a store: And yes they do get sick there!...Most of the puppies that have been arrived to the store get a kennel cought of canine flu, which can grow into pneumania if not treated right. And guess what they do with a sick dog?....They bring them in to back room, where they have another room, that is smaller than a bathroom with a metal cages, that look like a prison and put the dog in to the cage. And keep them there untill the dog either dies or gets better, then they sell it, without letting the customers know that the dog has been or is still sick!
Puppies being kept in a store untill they sold, so imagine a dog is 6 months old and is still didn't get sold!?....And if it gets lucky and gets sold, then it scared of it's own shadow once it leave it's cage. The sales people would tell you "Oh, he so cute, he is my favorite!!"....Don't listen to them, it's all bull s**t!...As soon as customer leaves they would say "That dog is f***** ugly!...And it's already under 1,000, so it doesn't matter if it gets sold, I won't make any comission out of it anyway."
The puppy get's lucky if it's being let out of it's cage at least once a week!!.....Puppies there don't see a sun, grass or anything!!..They being treated like a prisoners!!
People, if you're looking to buy a puppy, please, do not go to the pet stores, yes, puppies there look cute, but they are not healthy.Buy puppies only from a professional breeders, not from puppy mills!!
I quit that job shortly, because I just couldn't watch those people treating dog just like that and there was nothing I could do alone.

My mother just quit her job from this store due to the DM. She will call offices and anyone she needs to and scream and curse in front of the customers. She has been taking her child to the store along with her dogs. And now there are dogs that are sick(she says it's the workers fault). She will make the cut the people when she feels like it. She doesn't do anything her new workers she won't even help. And today she fired every black person that works there. She only kept Mexican people because they speak Spanish or she would have fired them too. She is the meanest distict manager ever. And the offices don't see it.She is really mean to her works also.

Second of all our puppies DO NOT COME FROM PUPPY MILLS. It is rude and disrespectful when we get customers that give us that label. I have had dogs my whole life and I would not work in such a place for a long period of time if we got our dogs from mills. Sorry you can make all the assumptions you want but we dont. We get them from breeders that you can contact yourself if you really feel the need too. Also people complan we keep our dogs in cages, the cages keep them safe, would you rather have the dogs running around the store getting into things that they can swallow or harm them? how else are we supposed to contain them and keep them safe?
Our puppies are checked by the vet, the only serious health problems we have ever had has been kennel cough the same thing any dog can get even if they were put in a professional kennel that people put their dogs in when they go on vacation. There is medicine to help that. Kennel cough isnt preventable uless we sell one dog at a time, and what sense would that make?
It is not my fault that people have bad luck with their dogs and it also isnt my fault that we cant have great management in every store. It is rude, disrespectful and annoying when people complain about the care of our animals and our company, if they do not like our company they dont have to be involved with us. I dont see why there would be anything to complain about, i really dont. At my store we just do our jobs, to find the puppies great homes and to give them great care in the meantime. Our customers are always happy with the puppies they buy us and bring them by for visits. So please dont trash talk our store because many of you really dont know how hard I work to make sure my store is in complete shape and being run they way its supposed to be.

Hi my name is wayne and i work at one of these pet stores in georgia, although i cannot defend the other pet companies i sure as heck will defend mines. I work at arbor place mall and if you enter our store not only will you get customer statisfaction but believe you me, our store is kept in tip top shape. It seems like everone here complaining would rather find a pet in the street, pick it up (with all of its unknown diseases) take it home, spend hundreds of dollars for shot, med's etc and then claim they resuced a dog thats all admiral and all, but have you ever took a step back from your own world and see that we keep them warm, safe, with there shots, and nice bath and human interaction and love.
no all yall see is a cage and bars, and some ****. everyone ***** ladies and gentleman, and we damn near try our hardest to attend to that situation asap. We push these puppies so hard to get them a home. I work hard to get them out of those so called jail cells to a nice home. if your so despertly concerned for them....BUY THEM!!! and the price, by god, where else can u find a register dog, microchipped, ALL shots up to date, ped. papers and a LIFE TIME WARRANTY all in one.
its more than safe to say...we keep you guys insured, yes fine you had a bad experience, but tell me you havent faced a bad exp. at a shoe store or grocery, how bout if your ever in douglasville you stop by, ask for wayne and i bet you, i can show you a happy dog!! My Store takes action and takes great care of our dogs....and one more thing...if you so called did ur research...OUR PUPPIES ARE NOT PUPPY MILL!!! ITS CALLED PRIVATE BREEDERS SO YOU SURE AS HECK WONT FIND IT ON ANY WEB SITES PEOPLE!!!! that's all i have to say...do not bash until you actually know what your talking about

I work at a Pet Company as the animal care technician. Everyone that works at this store loves and respects every single puppy that comes here. We have two shifts of animal care: morning shift that takes care of the pups from 8-1. The afternoon shift comes in from 5-9. During this time, we feed, bathe, clean the cages and play with the puppies. Seeing that there are about 30 puppies under our control, it is impossible to give each puppy a bath everyday. Whenever I work I ask the sales people which puppies need a bath that day. They tell me which one smells or has a bit of feces on it. I can personally tell you that NONE of our puppies are ever covered in feces or urine like some of these stories say. We take care of these puppies as well as we can, with the resources we are given.
In an ideal situation, of course all the puppies would have blankets and bigger cages, but it is not a perfect world. The company built the cages like that and there is nothing we can do to change it. I have complained a bunch of times about how the puppies have to stand on the grates all day, but the president and others in charge don't seem to care. Blankets are not aloud because they hold germs. I would just like to end by repeating the fact that us workers do our best (generally speaking), and if anyone has a problem with how the puppies are being treated, don't hesitate to notify officials. When going into a pet store, you have to be prepared. The puppies may not always look as comfortable or happy as they can be, but we are certainly trying our best. Hopefully one day pet shops will have to be redesigned with better cages.

I was employed by The Pet Company for several years and witnessed not only neglect and abuse of the animals, but also SERIOUS abuse of the employees. The company is run on a system of fear based management, harassment and intimidation( especially by the executive vp Chris and his sidekick Bonny). The former manager of the store I worked in was even hospitalized because of the abuse and torment he endured while working there. The employees are grossly under paid and have absolutely no training whatsoever. Employees are expected to vaccinate and medicate dogs without having any experience. During my time of employment I saw a countless number of animals die simply because the company didn't want to put out the money to help them- and in most cases the treatment was something that would have been simple and inexpensive.
The Pet Company is built on lies-in one meeting they held we were told by the vp that the dogs DO come from puppy mills but that we are not to tell customers that. We were told to say that all the dogs come from USDA certified private breeders, but that is hardly the case. After doing some investigation on my own of these private breeders I found that many of these breeders house thousands of dogs in deplorable conditions AND actually have charges lodged against them by the USDA, Health Dept, etc.
As far as the SEVERE abuse of employees, I could go on for days about it. One employee that worked with me was not paid for over a month! Many employees often receive paychecks which have been shorted. My DM would often make derogitory comments about other employees (calling them white trash, fat disgusting slobs...). I was once pulled aside by the vp and his sidekick and told that the company was taking out the trash...getting rid of the men holding them back... and replacing them with strong, independent women who don't need a man.... Being that I am married AND a strong independant woman I found that personally offensive. On a regular basis employees are threatened with being fired if they converse with ex-employees (as the vp says- you are an at will employee and you can be fired at any time for any reason. A GROSS misuse of Nj employment laws).
Many other ex-employees I have spoken with have evidence on the company of payroll fraud, sexual harassment, non-compliance with Nj minor laws, etc but ALL of them fear that retaliation will be taken if they come forth. None of the ex-employees who I have spoken with have ever been able to leave the company without some form of recourse being taken by Chris or Bonny. A former manager was even paid several extra weeks pay to keep quiet and NOT go to authorities with incriminating evidence she had on them. Another former manager was accused of stealing AFTER he had notified Bonny that he suspected a sales person of stealing (and he had evidence to support his suspicions too).
To anyone thinking of working for The Pet Company: working for this company is far more trouble than it's worth. Even if you want to work there for your love of animals(like I did), you will quickly learn that you are only employed to push sick animals on people and coverup the injustices and abuse that that company puts those poor animals through. The bullying that takes place in that company is not worth ANY amount of money and cannot make up for the lasting effects the abuse will leave you with. Please take my advice, steer clear of The Pet Company if you're looking for employment.
To anyone looking to buy a puppy: Do your research on this company before purchasing anything. Don't believe the lies they will tell you about the puppies being healthy or from good reputable breeders. Also, read ALL your paperwork VERY thoroughly if you do buy a dog from them-they say they will reimburse your vet bills but that may take months, they will fight you on paying most of your bill and there's absolutely nothing they can do to repair the heartache you will feel if your dog dies because they sold it to you sick. If you do buy a puppy and it is sick, your best bet is to bypass going to the company and go straight to the proper authorities (believe me you will not be the first or the only one). My best advice to you- just stay away from The Pet Company...as far away as you can!
I have been diagnosed by my doctor as having anxiety issues and stress related health issues that only developed once I had been with The Pet Company for some time. My doctor believes that these issues are directly related to psychological trauma and bullying I was subjected to by Chris and Bonny during my time of employment. I am, at present, unable to work because of the effects of this abuse.

I work as a sales associate and no matter what I do it is NEVER good enough. I use too many paper towels, too much window cleaner, don't sell enough dogs, ring up the register wrong, never punch out for lunch, get accused of stealing other co-workers sales, not checking to see if all the animals are alive before store opens, the list goes on and on. I have yet to hit comission and all I hear is we have to overcome not enough sales and hit your comission. If people don't have the money for overpriced dogs what am I suppose to do?
When they go **** yes some eat it, but it is NOT from not being fed, some dogs do this no matter what you do, and yes there are things you can give them to get them to stop it. We try and get to it A.S.A.P. but sometimes you can't get there before they eat it. We take care of them: feed, water, give them attention, and try to get them good homes, but it is NEVER enough. If you don't hit comission 2 paycycles in a row you are let go. You are urged to come in on your days off and work off the clock to get your comission to keep your job, as well as coming in early and staying late. How much can you do when you are only there for 2 hrs. at a time during slow days? Plus you get sent home early if it is slow. Who can afford to go to work for 2 - 8 hrs. a week and hit comisssion?
There are other people working with you and it is like buzzards over a dead carcas to get a person to let you get a puppy for them, let them bond and play, give them an outragious price and explain why it is that high. Yah they are good reasons, but if they don't have the money and are declined the credit when applying, what else can a person do? Unless you are a person who can sell ice to an eskimo you don't have a snowballs chance in hell.
I love the puppies, spending time with them, trying to find good homes for them, but why the pressure? I am at the point I don't want to go to work because if I don't sell 5 - 6 puppies a week I get lectured every 5 min. I get calls every hour, did you sell any puppies yet? No, well why not? Get on the ball we need sales. On and on and on, and if you don't get the phone when they call; then you get a butt chewing for that too. Stop calling and let me try and do my job.

I worked for Petco for a short period, until I realized how unrealiable and uncaring the company is. I now work for an all-natural pet food store, so I have been keeping an eye on competing food such as Nutro and Science Diet. I can't read anymore about the pets who have died after eating Nutro. It breaks my heart. I just don't want consumers to believe that everything is ok just because a store employee says it is. They are not informed about product issues, or educated about ingredents. Trust your instincts and do your OWN research! Many pets have become ill or worse.

I work at a Pet Company in upstate New York. My sole job is to take care of the puppies: make sure everyone is clean, healthy, eating well, and as comfortable as possible. I agree with a lot of people's comments about the dogs cages being small and I do feel bad that they have to walk on the mesh all the time. As an animal lover, I do what ever I can to make these dogs feel as good as they can in the situation.
Every dog has a mat to lay on, and hopefully soon, they will have small cloth beds. The dogs get fed twice a day, and have a constant supply of water available to them. Also, we have a vet that gives them check-ups once a week. Of course I would rather see them free and out of the cages, but for the most part their time in the pet shop is short, because they get sold to loving families.

I was an employee and the cages are so small...there is no padding, just grates and the cages are only cleaned twice a day. The dogs themselves are only cleaned when they are covered in their own feces or right before they are off to their new home. In the back (employee only room) there was a closet where there were a few cages installed for the sick dogs. There were 5 cages and at the time there were 6-8 sick dogs. There was a dead bird in a cage. The employees are not trained professionals (I was 16 yrs old with NO experience).
I ended up doing a "no call-no show" and was fired. I could NOT go through one more day of watching those poor mistreated animals (not just the dogs) suffer in their cages.

I sent a complaint last week to ConsumerAffairs.com about my experience at a Pet Company store in Danbury Ct., how the dogs were sitting in feces, eating it, and the whole situation was sad and horrible...tonight I read all of the complaints from many different states about this company and obvious cruelty to the puppies. Why doesn't anyone shut them down? It is happening at many of their stores.
I was appalled reading about all of these sick puppies, and how they are so starved they are eating their feces. It breaks my heart reading all of those posts. Someone needs to step in and help these poor animals.

On February 17, 2007, I was in Stonecrest Mall in Lithonia, GA. I went into The Pet Company store and looked at the puppies they had for sale. I was shocked to see the conditions the puppies were living in. One puppy's cage floor was covered in feces. He couldn't lay down anywhere without being in it. Some of them were very skinny and lethargic. Another puppy was so hungry, she was eating her own feces. That's disgusting. I have never seen anything so inhumane as The Pet Company store.

I was in the Pet Company buying a dog with my son. The place reeked of foul odors and the dog cages were filthy with dog feces all over some of the cages (it was everywhere and we did mention it to the staff). The dogs had to sit in their urine and I did not see water in any of the cages for them to drink. There were two or more dogs in some of the cages. Some of the dogs looked sickly and pathetic. We bought a dog and had to return it because after we got home he was vomiting and kept having bloody diarrhea. He was a very nice dog and it was very sad to have to return him after a day. I feel sad to think what might happen to him now.

I am an employee at a local Pet Company store. As many have already heard we have had an outbreak of Giardia as well as Coccidia. I will be honest the problem lies not within the store employees but with our superiors. The amount of authority and power we have to treat this outbreak is limited. Many employees are frustrated and have quit because they are tired of being so under paid and treated like they mean nothing and/or they do not want to support Mary, our District Manager, who has encouraged us to re-use syringes (don't dare spend any more money). I, as well as many other store employees, were never aware or this outbreak untill recently. Our superiors on the other hand have known since January.
Some employees remain at the the store soley because of their love for these animals and want nothing less than the best. Many of our employees have devoted many hours, unpaid, to keeping the dogs in as best care as we can. Without approval from Mary J for proper medications and enviornmental issues we are at a dead end at what we can do. This company is very cheap

I am a former store manager for the Pet Company Store in the Echelon Mall, Voorhees, NJ. I have read over a couple of the complaints here and find them to be very accurate. I left the Pet Company due to moral disagreements with upper management. Customers were rarely reimbursed for vet care costs, and paperwork was conveniently lost, delaying reimbursment.
I have seen upper management refuse critically ill puppies vet care, because animal hospitals cost too much. When I arrived at the Echelon store medications were 1 or 2 years expired, and sick puppies were being transferred between the Echelon and Moorestown stores to prevent the Department of Health from seeing them. When buying a puppy the Pet Company tells you that for 29.99 they will activate a tracking chip. What they don't tell you is this could be activated for 15.00 but they throw out the paperwork that explains how to activate the chip, forcing you to pay them 15.00. When I started in Nov, 04, I found litterally years of back paperwork that was never sent in to the home office, this paperwork is the only way that the puppy would get registered or the chip activated. These are only a few expamples in relation to complaints already stated.
