Howes Cave Animal Hospital

Howes Cave, NY

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

We were new to this town. Our dog who traveled with us was suffering from a heart problem. I made one call to Howes Cave Animal Hospital and was given an appointment right away after I explained my concerns about my dog. When we went to the appointment, the receptionist was very friendly as well as the vet, who was very gentle with our elderly dog. She explained everything to me. They treated both of us with respect. I would recommend Howes Cave Animal Hospital. They have also treated our other dog. They returned my calls promptly and have listened to all my concerns.

I have been to the Howes Caves animal hospital numerous times for different things. I have an English bulldog which when we got him had many issues. One issue is cysts between his toes. I was told by them every time that they would go away on there own. Well, they haven't, so I called up there about it and they said they would get back to me and never did. Now it seems to be infected, so I just drove up there. I asked about a certain medicine I researched and the secretary gave me an attitude about it because I didn't make an appointment.

I asked about not having to for both an office visit and an exam because they would be about $70.00 and I couldn't afford that plus medicine. I said a fee for one I could do since I have already paid 3 times for them to check it out previously and I don't feel I should have to keep paying for the same thing which should have been taken care of in the first place. They refused and tried basically telling me to leave (it was almost closing time) i heard her tell one of the assistants. "Can't leave on time people just walk in" the front desk woman said.

I told her I would like a copy of his file and I am going elsewhere she replied with, "God, I wanna slap you" I was at a loss for words. I told the vet about it and she told me to get the file and leave which I did. A week earlier, my dog got a rabies shot which they said he was passed due for so we checked the papers and he wasn't do for almost another three years, they admitted they messed up. Also about a year ago, my girlfriend's dog was hit by a car. He was in rough shape bleeding and seemed to be going in and out of consciousness. We were a couple miles down the road from the HCAH, so we rushed there to get help. We thought he was dead, when we got there it was 5 minutes before they closed.

They were just locking the door, we could see the vets and techs inside by the desk. We knocked and someone came to the door and we told them what happened and asked for help. She then shut the door and told the vets, she then opened the door and said, "Sorry were closed." I said, "Look this dog is a patient here and he needs help". They said we can't help you were closed. That just amazes me how people can have no heart or compassion. The problem is they are cheaper than the other vets around but is it really worth the few bucks you save?
