Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I stumbled across this rather dubious site called 123people.com who have crudely used robots to scrape public information about me and the hundreds of other people who shared my name or second name. In my opinion, we must mobilise and see them charged, convicted and jailed for a range of data protection, libel and consequential damages crimes. A simple search for 123people complaints that excludes their site finds 2.3 million hits. Something's wrong.

While the items of information they have aggregated about me is, or was correct and was at least once public, it was previously in context. I had placed this information on trusted websites like LinkedIn where it accurately presented my credentials but not at 123people.com.

They have haphazardly interlinked my web presence with that of others with a similar name, regardless of sex. For example, a woman with my second name and 19 positive criminal record searches which reads like we are related and an advertisement for a male hooker and a punk rocker from my old town. Despite sourcing much of this mash-up from LinkedIn, they proudly announce that I have no professional linkages which also transmits a completely inaccurate picture.

After a number of difficult attempts, I have marked all my links to 123people for removal and will give them a few days to act. If they have not corrected this nonsense at that point, I will be looking to lead a significant legal claim against them on behalf of all of us who have been affected. Let me know any interest in providing evidence and legal services.

My husband and I own a business for about a year and few months. Few days before we were going to open, this person came to our business and was introduced to us by the saleperson that we had used to buy product (from Sysco Co). Carlos was offering the debit/credit card machines. We accepted, after he offered to help us to pay for the first 2 months, and my husband cleared with him that because of us being a new business to open, we didn't know if we would be able to afford the rent ($139/month). To make this story short, the lease on this was done by him through Northern Leasing Co. and the bank he used for us was Northern bankcard.

On the day that my husband signed the consent, translated to him by Carlos, he signed with the verification that this contract was able to cancel in any moment if we want it. That night, he called us and told us my husband's credit was good but not enough for it and faxed me a contract for me to initiate and fax it back to him; that he was going to fill it out later. I trusted him, without reading anything on this contract. During the first weeks, a lot of questions arose and we were not able to communicate with neither company and Carlos. During a couple of months, we intended to cancel the contract but he convinced us again to stay on it until finally, we took the decision of canceling for good after we were unable to reach him.

Now, Northern Leasing is asking me for the sum of $8,000+ for breaking the contract since I stopped payment on Nov. 30, 2009. The machines were sent to them at the beginning of the year as they requested. I have about 10 other people that had been victims of the same person. I don't have the money to pay Northern Leasing or to hire an attorney. But all of us are willing to file a complaint against Mr. **, but we don't have the advise or help for it. I don't know where Carlos is today. This address was on his license. I also know 2 of the persons who worked for him for about 2 weeks and realized how he was taking money or fooling us.

This website is posting any possible information about me that I do not want public. Complaints led to nothing! They have personal photographs, and non-listed phone number. Scam artists had collected information on this site and used it against me to make me believe I owed them money. They contacted my familly to collect false debt with information provided by 123people.com. Every information they told me was sequential as it was on 123people's website. This is seriously a dangerous site.

After searching my name on Google, I came across several sites that had 'collected' information on my name. I contacted all of them and they very quickly removed any/all information associated with my name - with the exception of one site: www.123people.com. Their response to me after repeated requests to remove/supress any/all information related to my name was that they were a company based in Austria so they did not have to follow U.S internet privacy protocols or laws.

Their site does not have a privacy link nor a clear and easy contact link. They have also told me the only way to remove information related to my name is to contact all sources in which the information they have collected originally came from. They have also told me that I need to provide them with a link to each and every instance in which my name appears on their site for them to even consider my request. All this is impossible and to my knowledge against international internet privacy laws. I have asked that any/all information related to: Troy **; Troy **; Troy ** be removed and they have refused. Please help me!

Due to the availabilty of the information they have collected for their site I have been stalked in both a professional and personal manner. I have been contacted at my place of employment with harassing emails and phone calls. I have let www.123people.com know about this and they have still refused to remove/supress my personal and professional information. I feel my safety has been compromised because of this site and would like to have them served a cease and desist order. Thank you for your help.

After googling my own name, I noticed a site called 123people.com ranking very highly at #1, displaying all kinds of personal information including my age, current and former addresses, and the names of my relatives and their locations. All of this is readily available without my authorization.

When I contacted them, they said these information were publicly available. This is an invasion of privacy! They should not be allowed to publish information about ME, without MY permission! Period.

I received a letter that my personal data had been breached by an unauthorized third party who gained access to IFMG's servers. The company apparently used carloan.com's data to store my personal data on their servers after I applied for an auto loan through carloan.com. Instead of doing their research ahead of time to protect very sensitive consumer data, they opted to wait until after data had been breached to implement new security measures to protect data.

As a result of the security breach, my social security number, name, address, and birth date have all been put at risk of identity theft. These are the four most important pieces of information a human being in the USA has associated with them. Now I am at risk of complete identity theft, where someone can just go out an open accounts in my name, assume my identity, commit crimes using my name, and possibly have my other data breached by assuming my identity to inquire about passwords, account numbers, and such. This could be economically disastrous to me and my family, and certainly it will lead to problems in the future.
