Good News about Anorexia Nervosa |

|
By Henry J. Fishman, M.D. August 16, 2005
According to an article published in the journal Biological Psychiatry, women with anorexia may have some chemical imbalances in the brain. Researchers used brain imaging technology in ten women with anorexia nervosa who had gotten better and 12 healthy women. The anorectic women had too much dopamine activity in a part of the brain near the spinal cord call the basal ganglia. Too much dopamine could be why anorexic women are driven to lose weight by not eating but don’t feel good about weight loss. The research could someday lead to a test for anorexia and a drug to treat it. Report Your Experience
