Gas Prices Rise Four Cents In Last Week

But prices go down in Utah and Wyoming

PhotoWith oil prices marching higher, gasoline prices are following right along. The average price today is four cents a gallon higher than last Friday.

The national average price of self-serve regular today is $3.391 per gallon, up from $3.352 last Friday, according to AAA's Fuel Gauge Survey. That's almost 13 cents a gallon more than what motorists were paying a month ago.

The average price of diesel fuel today is $3.871 per gallon, up from $3.840 a week ago.

Oil prices have risen over the last few weeks as Iran has reacted to the threat of new economic sanctions by threatening to close the Persian Gulf, blocking oil shipments from the region. Industry analysts predict oil prices would double should that happen, sending gasoline prices well over $5 a gallon.

In the last week, domestic gasoline prices seemed to increase the most in the Midwest, with the biggest price increases in Ohio, Illinois, Michigan and Indiana. In states were gas is the cheapest, the price actually fell in some states. There are now two states – Utah and Wyoming – where the statewide average is below $3 a gallon.

The states with the most expensive gas this week are:

  • Hawaii ($4.037)
  • Alaska ($3.893)
  • California ($3.704)
  • Connecticut ($3.651)
  • New York ($3.653)
  • Michigan ($3.621)
  • Illinois ($3.574)
  • Ohio ($3.515)
  • Indiana ($3.508)
  • Vermont($3.490)
