Here's something that's totally not just another daily deal site. Umba Box is adapting the grab-bag concept to the Web.
The Washington, DC-based start-up promises to scour the handmade goods community and deliver unique products to the doorsteps of subscribers each month.
The company focuses on non-size specific women's products, such as home goods, accessories, jewelry, stationary and bath products.
Subscribers, who pay $26 a month -- in increments of one, three, six or 12 months -- don't know exactly what they're getting until the box arrives. Stories of the artists and products are included in each delivery.
"Stories that artisans can share with consumers are what the Big Box sellers just can’t match," the site's founder said in a statement. "It’s so much more enjoyable to buy something when you feel connected to the person who made it. Umba Box brings together the best from the handmade community."
