While some were disappointed that the new iPhone was only an upgrade of the iPhone 4 and not the long-speculated-about iPhone 5, the new device appears to be selling well all the same.
Apple reportedly sold more than four million devices over the first three days of availability, which is even more than its previous models. There were even lines at Apple stores over the weekend when the iPhone 4S went on sale in seven countries.
In the U.S., Apple is now selling its smartphones through three carriers – AT&T Wireless, Verizon Wireless, and now Sprint.
Issues
Are there any issues with the new iPhone? Some users have reported a yellowish tint on their phone's screen. More than a year ago there were similar reports when the iPhone 4 was released. It was eventually determined the discoloration was caused by the glue used in the assembly of the phones. In some cases the discoloration went away by itself.
There have also been some reported issues with Siri, the iPhone 4s' virtual assistant. The voice recognition is supposed to let users perform a variety of functions with simple voice commands. Several users on Twitter and Apple message boards reported error message when attempting to connect to Siri.
Then, there was musician Johnathon Mann's attempt to sing a love song duet with the virtual assistant that proved unsuccessful but resulted in a humorous video that has gone viral on YouTube.
Despite early hiccups, the phone is wowing some in the technology press. James Kendrick, a writer for ZDnet.com, says he is a devoted Android user, but after trying out the iPhone 4S for a few days, “Android just feels wrong.” He said the iPhone 4S has a much smoother interface between apps than Android.
