The National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration (NHTSA) says it is investigating
complaints of inaccurate fuel-gauge readings in General Motors SUVs
from the 2005-07 model years.
NHTSA has received 668 complaints about the problem, 58 of which involved stalling vehicles and at least one accident.
Some of the stalling complaints apparently resulting from the gauge indicating there was more fuel in the tank than there actually was. In one case, an SUV was leaving a highway when it stalled and was struck from the rear.
Automotive News reported the probe involves the following models:
2005-07 Buick Rainiers;
2005-07 Chevrolet TrailBlazer 360s;
2005-06 Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT 370s;
2005-07 GMC Envoy 360s;
2005-06 GMC Envoy XL 370s; and
2005-07 Saab 9-7Xs.
