Biodegradable Chip Bag Pulled Because It's Too Noisy

It's not easy being green, Frito-Lay learns

It seemed like a good idea at the time. In an effort to be green, Frito-Lay, a division of PepsiCo, began packaging its popular Sun Chips snacks in biodegradable bags earlier this year. But this week the company announced it was going back to its old style bags.

The move was promoted by an outcry from consumers who complained that the bags were just too noisy. When you pick up a bag of Sun Chips, the sound of the crinkling paper is much louder than what you hear when you pick up a regular bag.

Some consumers complained that it amounted to "noise pollution," and began asking Frito-Lay to do something about it. Some consumers even took their complaints to YouTube.
