Give Thanks for Falling Gas Prices

National average is at $1.86 a gallon

Hitting the road for Thanksgiving at Grandma's? If so, the trip will cost you a lot less than last year.

Those filling up Wednesday will pay a national average of $1.868 a gallon for unleaded regular, according to AAA. Last year the price was $3.091, a savings of about 22 cents a gallon.

Prices, of course, have been falling steadily since mid summer, when oil prices hit their peak and began their decline. Even a month ago consumers were paying a seemingly-high $2.668 a gallon.

Even motorists in Alaska, who pay the nation's highest average price, are now paying below $3 a gallon. The Alaska statewide average stands at $2.889 a gallon, with Hawaii the second-highest, at $2.802.

Missouri continues to have the cheapest gas in the nation, at $1.571 a gallon.
