GM SUVs, Crossovers Win IIHS Safety LabelJoin list of 50 vehicles |

By Joe Benton August 26, 2008
Joining the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick list are the GMC Acadia, a large SUV, the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and Saturn Outlook. The only other 2008 GM vehicles on the safety list are the Cadllac CTS and Saturn Vue built after December 2007. To carry the designation of "Top Safety Pick," IIHS requires that vehicles earn the highest rating of good in the institute's front, side, and rear crash tests. The vehicle must also be equipped with electronic stability control. "Recognizing vehicles at the head of the class for safety helps consumers distinguish the best overall choices without having to sort through multiple test results," said Institute president Adrian Lund. "We're pleased to have the IIHS join other automotive and safety authorities in recognition of our crossover vehicles," said Beth Lowery, vice president, Environment, Energy and Safety Policy for General Motors. There are now 50 of the 2008 model year vehicles that carry the "Top Safety Pick" designation, according to the IIHS Web site. Report Your Experience
