This is no April Foods joke.

The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline hit another new record on the final day of March at $3.287 and the experts say the price is unlikely to decline over the next several weeks.

Mid-grade gasoline now sells for an average of $3.491 and premium goes for $3.617 a gallon.

Diesel fuel is almost 2 cents beneath the record price set March 22 of $4.037 and now sells for $4.02 a gallon.

Needles, California owns the highest gas price in the country at $4.19 for a gallon of regular. The statewide price for regular in California is now $3.638 close behind Hawaii, the state with the highest average gas price at $3.647.

Motorists in New Jersey can still find gasoline for less than $3 a gallon in Gloucester where regular sells for an average of $2.98. The statewide average in New Jersey is $3.045 a gallon.

Here is a look at some gasoline prices from around the country in the ConsumerAffairs.com Gas Price Round Up.

California: Gasoline prices are setting new records throughout the state with regular selling above $3.60 a gallon in every major California metropolitan area.

The statewide average for regular is now 38 cents higher than one year ago at $3.638. Mid-grade gasoline sells for $3.873 in California and premium sells for $3.937.

Diesel fuel has declined slightly to $4.199 a gallon from the record set March 21 of $4.21.

Florida: Motorists are unlikely to see any significant change in the average price of gas this week despite rising fuel inventories, according to the AAA Auto Club South.

"Conflicting signals from the Department of Energy reporting increased gasoline inventories countered by market analysts who are uncertain whether investor profit-taking on crude oil will stall both crude and retail gasoline prices will likely result in little movement in prices at the pumps this week," Randy Bly, spokesman for AAA South, said in a news release.

The average price of regular in Florida is $3.339, up 9 cents from March 1, according to AAA.

The average price of diesel fuel in Florida has hit $4.02.

Texas: Drivers going to fill up at the pump are having to deal with an all-time high in gas prices throughout the Lone Star state.

The average gas price in Texas is at $3.20 a gallon. One year ago regular gasoline sold for $2.549 in Texas.

Amarillo has the highest average gasoline price in the state at $3.241 a gallon. Corpus Christi has the lowest average at $3.143.

Michigan: AAA Michigan Reports Michigan gas prices are up 8 cents over the last week making the statewide average is $3.33 per gallon. That is 66 cents higher than last year.

The cheapest gallon of regular is found in Flint for $3.30 per gallon. The highest price is in Marquette at $3.50 a gallon. Detroit price average is $3.31 per gallon.

Massachusetts: Gas prices are up two cents a gallon in Massachusetts, after a decline of a penny last week.

AAA of Southern New England reports an average price of $3.14 per gallon for self-serve regular. The average was $3.12 last week when the price declined for the first time in six weeks.

The average price in Massachusetts is 14 cents below the national average price of $3.287.
